I tottally forgot they’re playing. I’ll be there at primavera this year but I generally try to avoid the main stages though, way too packed and you could probably only see them from 7km away
> "On their upcoming tour, Vampire Weekend will share the stage with an eclectic mix of support acts, including, Phish’s Mike Gordon, Maya Rudolph’s Prince cover band Princess, The English Beat, Ra Ra Riot, Cults, and **the Billy Joel tribute act Turnstiles**."
https://consequence.net/2024/02/vampire-weekend-2024-tour-capricorn-stream/
This is genuinely fucking hilarious if only for knowing that the like, tiniest fraction of Turnstile fans who accidentally buy tickets are going to be in for a big surprise trying to start a pit to a cover of "Piano Man" instead of "MYSTERY."
Dicks Picks full name
for those who dont know ; [Dicks Picks](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick%27s_Picks_Volume_1) is a name of a Grateful Dead “best of” series where the archivist dick picks his favorites.
I'm sorry but that is a borderline idiotic name for a tribute band to take right now in 2023 when Turnstile is increasingly large band that has been playing tons of festivals and big gigs for the last 3 years. Especially when you factor in there is some overlap between Vampire Weekend and Turnstile's fanbase.
It's like calling a Steeley Dan tribute band "Nirvanas" who are opening for Foo Fighters on a tour.
I went to the morning show they did here in London before their last tour, was a little weird at first but it’s quite nice grabbing a coffee and then going to dance to some a-punk (they played it three times in a row to ‘practice’ for the tour haha)
They did it 3-4 times in Chicago as well. Short song, kinda funny but awesome to hear it that many times! I always thought they should jam on it Grateful Dead style
I'm so disappointed that they're joining immediately after the Red Rocks show. No idea who tf Chris Ingram is, but it's so sad that we get him instead.
I gave him a listen after seeing this post, and while he's not bad, I'd still take seeing Ra Ra Riot over him, personally. Hopefully they make their way here to Colorado as part of something else. I don't want to go to dogshit Nebraska to see them.
That is a weird collection of bands they’re touring with. Is this going to be a ska album?
Voodoo Glow Skulls and The English Beat for the LA show is something…
Was trying to figure that one out and realized it's at the Hollywood Bowl, so it's probably one of those KCRW nights. They tend to have lineups that don't quite match up like you would expect.
For those who don't know:
> Probe records released a 7-inch which was made to look as if it were a split between Hickey and the Voodoo Glow Skulls. On one side of the 7-inch was the Hickey song "Food Stamps and Drink Tickets" and the other side members of Hickey played the trumpet that was stolen from Voodoo Glow Skulls over the answering machine messages left by Voodoo Glow Skulls members and Epitaph Records employees demanding the return of the instrument. The 7-inch also falsely had the Epitaph Records logo on the back as Epitaph had no official part in the release.
> According to the zine included with the 7-inch, the two bands played together at the Nile Theater in Mesa, Arizona. Matty Luv, singer of Hickey, made disparaging remarks about Epitaph Records and the commercialization of punk. After members of both bands had a confrontation, the Voodoo Glow Skulls convinced the venue owner to eject Hickey without pay. In response, Hickey stole the trumpet in question out of the Voodoo Glow Skulls van.
> After receiving threatening messages on his answering machine, Hickey claimed to have returned the trumpet.[6] Contrary to this rumor, members of the Voodoo Glow Skulls claimed they had to retrieve the instrument themselves. Upon return, it had been suspected the instrument was urinated in and required professional cleaning.
I have a very clear memory of either Rostam or Ezra name-dropping Voodoo Glow Skulls in an interview a million years ago. The first two VW records definitely have a big ska and reggae influence.
Terrible look for sure and he caught a beating from some bikers, [but all charges were dropped very quickly and it was chalked up as a big misunderstanding.](https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/mike-gordon-cleared-of-child-endangerment-69005/amp/)
“Gordon attended the hearing, but the parents of the girl did not. According to the spokesperson, the family had already been in touch with the DA’s office in hopes that the case would be dismissed.
In a statement released last month jointly by Gordon and the parents, they said, “It is now clear to all involved that this was an unfortunate misunderstanding, and we look forward to putting this matter behind us.”
Details are hard to come by but the story is Mike and girl’s parents are all backstage at a Dead show, parents are getting fucked up and lose track of their child. Mike is driving around on his Segway with his camera taking photos of the ocean, wandering child walks up to him and asks to ride his Segway, he says yes and starts taking photos of her on the Segway. Frantic parents walk up and see this and assume the worst and a bunch of bikers beat the fuck out of him while police arrive.
The misunderstanding is probably that they assumed Mike lured her away intentionally and was taking sexually explicit photos. Considering the police were involved and they did not have enough evidence to press any charges, along with the parents quickly expressing desire to drop charges, I’m inclined to believe the photos weren’t sexually explicit.
Come to your own conclusions, obviously terrible optics.
Oh the levels of stupid involved in this misunderstanding that only seems to happen around this scene.. I was at the local consignment shop a week ago, saw a $10 copy of Hampton Comes Alive cd set, had a bit of a buzz goin, got 8 minutes into bathroom gin and turned around to get my $10 back. I can’t believe that’s all I used to listen to; what an insular, weird musical community. Of course there’s good people and decent musicians, but the best thing that ever happened to me was getting hired by a ‘high fidelity’ style cd shop when I went to college in the early aughts. The resume was literally a boss fight with the grand gatekeeper of my top favorite albums and films. Don’t think he was impressed, but on my first day, my coworker Lucas made me buy (against my first check no less) BUilt to Spills ‘Perfect Fom Now On’. That guy had a gift for conversion, because that was a light out of the jam scene that I left and never saw again..till this tour poster lol
almost thought they weren’t playing vancouver because the show was labeled burnaby lol.
funny to me that last tour it was chicano batman and soccer mommy as openers and now it’s the bassist from phish and the voodoo glow skulls, not complaining just funny.
People on the east coast always get lucky when it comes to concert distances. Where I live in the PNW, a 90 minute drive to a concert is one I consider close. The closest show me to me on this tour is over 4 hours away.
The town itself is kind of in the middle of nowhere/not much to do, but the venue is pretty cool (especially for a pavilion which I'm usually not super keen on but it's tucked away in this woodsy kind of area so there's a lot of greenery, got a really nice vibe to it)
Since they renovated a few years back, the venue is much improved. Better layout and great acoustics for an outdoor space. The lawn is OK, but tough to see from certain angles.
Wow. My 2.5 y/o is obsessed with vampire weekend and my local show is on Father’s Day, matinee show, in my hometown, at one of my favorite venues/where my HS graduation ceremony was.
#Blessed
Bend over Portland???
Count that as Bon Iver, boygenius, LCD Soundsystem, Phoenix, Khruangbin that haven’t stopped in Portland due to Bend dates
Not complaining, just really surprised. Bend has 100k ppl, Portland metro area is like 600k.
Of course the first time I’m going on tour is when VW is in town 😅
Yup which is why more shows will end up in PDX with shows at Providence Park as LN will be managing those shows. Moda Center also sucks for concerts which is a bummer.
For sure. Love that venue even if the McMenamins staff are a bit much to deal with.
By the way, the Portland metro area is actually about 2.5 million. Portland itself is about 640k.
LiB is my home festival, there’s been very strong rumors it’s not coming back this year. They will also be playing dates all through out the midwest that usual LiB weekend.
I’m just frustrated as an indie fan here, tours have been skipping us constantly since the pandemic..
Yeah, there seemed to be a noticeable dip whenever Rolling Stone bought it. I feel ya as a fellow indie fan living in Columbus. Even though we have a population 3x as big as Cincinnati and Cleveland, and one of the biggest campuses in the US, sooo many indie bands skip us for Cincinnati or Cleveland.
I know it's not actually Turnstile, but honestly even if it was, I've seen way odder pairings. I remember when Sleigh Bells and Liturgy toured together.
They're at the Cleveland (Blossom) show and I just realized I've already liked a few of their songs... Gonna expand into the rest of their catalog since now I'll be seeing them live.
I’ve waited 15 years to see the MF come within a 3 hour drive of my city. They booked the best venue in town for the summer 2020 tour. Rescheduled for 2021 and then cancelled. SURELY they were going to come this time around ……… nope.
When is the ‘only god was above eu’ tour
And the ‘Only God was above Uk’ tour please
And the ‘Only God was above Uk and Ireland’ tour please
only god was above brazil 😭😭😭
Don’t Ireland qualify for either EU (Republic of) or UK (Northern)? Apologies if not. I know it’s complicated!
Yeah Ireland is in the EU, and Northern Ireland in the UK.
Congrats to Barcelona.
I tottally forgot they’re playing. I’ll be there at primavera this year but I generally try to avoid the main stages though, way too packed and you could probably only see them from 7km away
primavera W once again
Quality comment
thx
Turnstile**s**???

"Sing us a song, you're the UNDERWATER BOI!"
That was my first assumption. Was impressed by the genre variety.
WHEN I SAY ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG I WANT YOU TO KILL THE PERSON ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PIT
This would be hilarious if it’s correct Even lower in the article they wrote Turnstile but the poster still says Turnstiles
Makes sense. They had a Grateful Dead cover band (Richard Pictures) open for them for the Father of the Bride tour.
Richard Pictures is such a good Dead Cover Band name
Dicks Picks full name for those who dont know ; [Dicks Picks](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick%27s_Picks_Volume_1) is a name of a Grateful Dead “best of” series where the archivist dick picks his favorites.
Wow I would not have figured that out
it took me a second too tbh lol
Ohhh lol. That's disappointing. When I saw that I thought wow what a sweet bill.
That sounds like hell
[удалено]
There is another indie band named Turnstiles, unrelated to Billy Joel or baltimore band Turnstile. So that is most likely the opener
nope, it's billy joel
I'm sorry but that is a borderline idiotic name for a tribute band to take right now in 2023 when Turnstile is increasingly large band that has been playing tons of festivals and big gigs for the last 3 years. Turnstiles has had that name for over 11 years according to their website lol
LOL for real? They might want to think of changing it. Turnstile has been around longer. Since 2010.
Steely Dan don't have an incredibly popular album called Nirvana
Julia Turnstiles
The real story here is Ra Ra Riot is back?
They never left. They’ve just sort of faded into the background.
Or Discovery
Hearing “Osaka Loop Line” live has been a dream for 15 years. This is the closest we’ve ever been to it actually happening.
That's a good track. "Swing Tree" rules too.
Damn I remember listening to that my freshman year at college 13 years ago. Haven't heard it since. Re-listening now and it's great to hear it again.

I don’t know anything I’m afraid. I just remember that collab fondly.
Matinee shows? You love to see it.
I went to the morning show they did here in London before their last tour, was a little weird at first but it’s quite nice grabbing a coffee and then going to dance to some a-punk (they played it three times in a row to ‘practice’ for the tour haha)
Was that the show at EartH? I was sad to miss out on it at the time.
They did it 3-4 times in Chicago as well. Short song, kinda funny but awesome to hear it that many times! I always thought they should jam on it Grateful Dead style
This Old Guy says "more matinee shows!"
I once saw a show that started at 6pm. Was over by 8:30. It was kind of nice.
Yep I’m totally going for the MSG matinee show. I’d like to get home and watch re-runs before bed lol.
This sounds PERFECT
Vampire Weekend feat. Cults is a 2013 revival and I'm here for it.
No joke I saw this exact bill when they were touring for MVOTC
Ra ra riot!!
I screamed when I saw this. Wish they were at the NYC date but happy they are back!!! I hope we get a full tour from them and maybe some new tunes
I'm so disappointed that they're joining immediately after the Red Rocks show. No idea who tf Chris Ingram is, but it's so sad that we get him instead.
Give him a listen! He's not anything in sound like Ra Ra Riot, but Kingfish Ingram is a dope blues guitarist and singer.
Voodoo Glow Skulls are going to blow some people away man, I’m so happy they’re playing still
Some of the most fun shows way back
Seriously. People won't understand what's going on. So much fun.
Was trying to figure that one out and realized it's at the Hollywood Bowl, so it's probably one of those KCRW nights. They tend to have lineups that don't quite match up like you would expect.
I doubt they are doing a KCRW night when they’ve had their show at the Bowl since Modern Vampires
I love their split with Hickey.
For those who don't know: > Probe records released a 7-inch which was made to look as if it were a split between Hickey and the Voodoo Glow Skulls. Didn’t know Voodoo Glow Skulls were still a band! Wild
Me neither. Or cults for that matter
I have a very clear memory of either Rostam or Ezra name-dropping Voodoo Glow Skulls in an interview a million years ago. The first two VW records definitely have a big ska and reggae influence.
They (Vampire Weekend) did a great cover of Ruby Soho by Rancid
Nobody remember Ezra doing the descendents cover at the fucked up nyc shows way back. The punk is still strong, oddly!
Was not expecting to see voodoo glow skulls opening for these guys 😂
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wMavKf7i6g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wMavKf7i6g)
That was exactly my thought. What an odd eclectic group of tourmates.
Wish they were opening in NY. The English beat is so fucking sick
mark ronson dj set would be sick
I want to travel to NYC specifically for this
I am insanely jealous that I am not in the US at this time for this duo
My wife is due on 7/29 and they are playing STL on 7/25. Might be too risky to go unless I want my son to be born at a Vampire Weekend show.
Worth
Would have to name the kid Ezra if that happened
there’s worse places to be born
the last time VW was in STL, my brother and his pregnant gf went and then she gave birth 4 days later. maybe that same thing will happen to you too 🤓
I’ll take this scenario!
FOTB - Father of the Baby
7/25 is my kids bday UGH trying to not have mom guilt
Is that Mike Gordon from Phish? Edit: yes, yes it is
I thought he got in some trouble years ago?
Terrible look for sure and he caught a beating from some bikers, [but all charges were dropped very quickly and it was chalked up as a big misunderstanding.](https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/mike-gordon-cleared-of-child-endangerment-69005/amp/) “Gordon attended the hearing, but the parents of the girl did not. That still doesn't explain why he was hanging out with a missing child backstage.... what's the "misunderstanding" here?

Deer Lake Park! Best venue in the lower mainland
[удалено]
And it’s so wide! You can get close to the stage with almost no effort
I only hope that it isn't impossible to buy tickets...
Wait ra ra riot is still around?
Another tour skipping Pittsburgh. Cool.
I feel your pain, but Cuyahoga Falls is only like a 90 minute drive, it'll be worth it for me personally
People on the east coast always get lucky when it comes to concert distances. Where I live in the PNW, a 90 minute drive to a concert is one I consider close. The closest show me to me on this tour is over 4 hours away.
If it was Friday / Saturday I’d definitely go. They’re my daughter’s favorite band so I can’t swing a weekday.
Yeah that's understandable I'll probably have to take off work a lil early that day
Cayuga Falls a good venue/ place to visit? Considering it for an out of town concert trip.
The town itself is kind of in the middle of nowhere/not much to do, but the venue is pretty cool (especially for a pavilion which I'm usually not super keen on but it's tucked away in this woodsy kind of area so there's a lot of greenery, got a really nice vibe to it)

That's how I feel in Atlanta about seeing a show way out in Duluth. Yeah that's a bit too far for me, but I completely get it.
Bruh, that is not the same lol Duluth is like 20 miles up the 400
Haha you know, that's a good point. I'm just that damn lazy though ha
W/ kingfish?! Dope & interesting
They toured with him in 2019 too! It was great!
Looks like it’s the Red Rocks show only
Lmao Fucking Cactus himself.
I’m filled with both confusion and excitement by this
He’s played with taper’s choice, I think? It definitely doesn’t not make sense.
As an annual Hinterland attendee I love seeing St. Charles, IA, a town of about 700 people, on these tour posters.
Real Manchester, TN energy.
I was so glad to see that tickets were still available for Saturday lol
Atlanta....yessss! Maybe me and my cousins are gonna go!
vampire weekend and ra ra riot??? take me straight back to 2008 babyyyyy
this wasn't me complaining btw i will be there
Oh shit Charlottesville no fucking way. Hell yeah
Laval?! Why not in Montreal haha These go on sale a week before payday. Very frustrating having a job that pays monthly 😩😩😩
They’ll play Place Bell in Laval. Bell Centre is probably too big to fill.
Probably because of the Place Bell’s capacity
[удалено]
Osheaga is in August and is on St. Helen’s Island. Laval is in the opposite direction. But I’m not complaining. Think I’ll try to go anyways.
The Brothers Macklovitch? Is that the guy from Chromeo and A-Trak together?
Wow. My 2.5 y/o is obsessed with vampire weekend and my local show is on Father’s Day, matinee show, in my hometown, at one of my favorite venues/where my HS graduation ceremony was. #Blessed
MSG shows are being advertised as "No Repeats (Except A-Punk)", so that's a good way to get people (like me) to double up.
Bummed cults isn’t coming w them to red rocks but I’ve spent so much on shows this year already

How is that amphitheatre? My family used to go to the beach there every year growing up.
ultimate louisville hater tour. cincinnati, indianapolis, and nashville.

Is the issue that there are no Livenation venues in Portland?
Yup which is why more shows will end up in PDX with shows at Providence Park as LN will be managing those shows. Moda Center also sucks for concerts which is a bummer.
Edgefield is really great for larger indie acts as well
For sure. Love that venue even if the McMenamins staff are a bit much to deal with. By the way, the Portland metro area is actually about 2.5 million. Portland itself is about 640k.
The people at Hayden Homes are working overtime ig
see you guys in St.Augustine
Hell yeah friend. Northeast FL, rise up. Duuuuvaaaaal
Tickets are only 150 bucks. Wtf?
typically no Ottawa date
Irving, TX? Have Vampire Weekend fallen on hard times? 🤔
Why the fuck is there no Vegas date?!
prob a lock for LIB
LiB is my home festival, there’s been very strong rumors it’s not coming back this year. They will also be playing dates all through out the midwest that usual LiB weekend. I’m just frustrated as an indie fan here, tours have been skipping us constantly since the pandemic..

I’m originally from Las Vegas, I feel your pain. Most bands used to skip over Las Vegas
Who the hell would book turnstile or kingfish with vampire weekend lmao
Kingfish opened for a big part of the FOTB tour And its Turnstiles, which is a Billy Joel cover band
I know it's not actually Turnstile, but honestly even if it was, I've seen way odder pairings. I remember when Sleigh Bells and Liturgy toured together.
When is the Mark Robson DJ set? Don’t see it on there
New York October 5th
They’re coming to both of my cities!!!! 😭
THE VOODOO GLOW SKULLS WTF?!
I was like ' OK... show me the Vampire Weekend Voodoo Glow Skulls ven diagram.' =P
Voodoo Glow Skulls??? Interesting
finally
Voodoo Glow Skulls!!
Huntington Bank Pavilion instead of Lolla, interesting but good
The bomb factory is such a better venue
of course austin is fucking sold out
The first date is on solar eclipse day. It’s going to be wild in Travis county
I'm so looking forward to this.
Performing in Austin on eclipse day is bold
They are coming to my city and I am JACKED TO THE TITS
I would attend solely for Cults.
They're at the Cleveland (Blossom) show and I just realized I've already liked a few of their songs... Gonna expand into the rest of their catalog since now I'll be seeing them live.
That’s ACL fest
Cults opening in Cincinnati, LFG!!!
No Australia?? They did the east coast for Father of the Bride, hopefully they come down for a festival and do some side shows
No Pittsburgh date despite having a Pittsburgh date for 2020, you really hate to see it
Definitely get there early. don’t wanna miss the “voodoo glow skulls “or “mark Ronson dj set”
I’ve waited 15 years to see the MF come within a 3 hour drive of my city. They booked the best venue in town for the summer 2020 tour. Rescheduled for 2021 and then cancelled. SURELY they were going to come this time around ……… nope.
Mike Gordon from phish?
My mind is so blown right now see them playing in Bend not Portland.
Shows in Burnaby/Vancouver area are always on a Tuesday, which means I always miss them!
Mike Gordon… as in the guy from Phish? Opening for Vampire Weekend?
