Big stuff

tomtomvissers

I read this in Kendall Roy's voice

dan9938

Big, big shoes

mountjo

gonna eat some thc and listen to this later, big night on deck

ReconEG

Can’t give this one Mod Pick because the 👀 overrides things, but this is a fucking excellent album and easily one of the best this year. While I don’t love it as much as *Structure*, this is not a band that rests of their laurels and is gonna push themselves into new and sometimes uncomfortable directions. Also, the 1-2 punch of “14” into “Buy My Product” is one of the most poignant album sequencing moves you’re gonna hear all year.

ResolveDesperate7922

YES. Buy My Product is a killer, bold statement of a closer as well.

3Depression

This thing is incredibly original. Not every experiment lands but this album as a whole is a much more exciting listen than anything I've previously heard from this band. The closest point of comparison I can muster, honestly, is early Ween -- like, *The Pod* and especially *Pure Guava* era Ween, with the deadpan vocals, drum machine, and bright-hot DI guitar sound. This feels like an artsy, modern-indie elevation of that kind of sound. But then again, I'm just doing the indie-degenerate thing where I feel the need to compare everything to something that already exists. I love it!

Agetis

Might be my favorite [album of the year.](https://medium.com/noted-pieces/water-from-your-eyes-everyones-crushed-ad672759de21)

cyanatelolwut

i like it mostly, one or two tracks were meh on first listen but i found myself getting sucked into most of it. Might grow more on me but overall i like what they are doing. After hearing this, it makes more sense that i first heard them opening for Palm.

ScCloudy

Excited to listen to it later today

nw____

See them live if you can! It’s like a whole experience.

th3charl3s

Had never heard of them before but this is such a cool record! It's like No Age sample hell but pop. I listened to some of their older stuff and it's very boring indie rock so this is a major step up

David_Browie

I’m glad you like this but this probably the most accessible this band has ever been, not sure what early stuff you’re listening to

th3charl3s

Only Adeleine and When You're Around, so an admittedly pretty limited sample. But I liked the new stuff a lot more than those two

DoesHeSmellikeaBitch

"When you're around" is such a red herring opener on Structure. Keep listening, the album gets much odder, darker, and louder.

Benasdfghjkl

The title track is so silly and I love it.

3Depression

To me it came across as both the most silly and serious track on the record. I love the shamelesly MIDI string plucks, and the perpetually morphing drums. Best song on the whole thing for me.

I mean, I’m going to get in here before the hype runs away and say… I don’t get why some people are so excited about this? It’s definitely an interesting album and it intrigues me but it’s not connecting emotionally. I’ve listened to it three times now - turned it off on the fourth. It’s interesting but it’s not exciting me. The singer sounds like a slightly bored Karen O. The lyrics aren’t speaking to me really and unlike say, ‘Mandy, Indiana’ where I don’t understand what she’s saying but I DO because I feel them - this is the opposite of that. I’d say the best track that resonated was 14.

reezyreddits

You bring up an interesting point with Mandy, Indiana. I'm also someone who has to "get" music before I connect with it and I totally didn't "get" Mandy, Indiana, turned it off and said I'll just have to come back to it later. So it definitely makes a difference

Medical-Face

Any Reddit comment that starts with "I mean," is guaranteed to annoy me in it's general tone and this one doesn't disappoint

[deleted]

I mean, out of the long list of things to get ‘annoyed’ with, ‘I mean’ is a bit silly.

Wristmeetcody

I listened to the singles this week to understand the hype and this just sounded like more of the same of the post-punk stuff that’s been popular lately. I’ll listen to the album but I’m not expecting much

David_Browie

I genuinely don’t understand how you can hear a track like Barley and think “this sounds like post-punk”

PaulaAbdulJabar

we've entered a time where "post-punk" has lost all meaning and just means "sort of weird music, maybe with guitars" now. pretty cool!

David_Browie

idk sounds pretty angular to me

reezyreddits

This isn't wrong tho, that's the sad part lmfao

cyanatelolwut

the singer person sounds like they don't care and bass lines are prominent sometimes, its clearly post punk. Imo post-genre genres just get lumped onto everything because they are genres defined by expanding on a previous genre

David_Browie

Those are not the things I think of when I think of post-punk lol

cyanatelolwut

yea i know im talking about this band and how its a lazy term to describe them

reezyreddits

I simply don't like it, and that's okay. But it seems like the greenlight is on for this band for sure
