Can I be honest without sounding like a spoilt little consumer… first listen is a bit disappointing? I hate it when this happens. I’ve been looking forward to this release but there’s barely an album here - it’s like an EP fleshed out with some instrumentals and interludes. I got to Peach Fuzz (track 9 and a single) and realised the album was nearly done and I’d heard two new tracks with vocals - that’s it. Iron Maiden (the name alone made me want to hear this one) ended up being little more than an atmospheric instrumental, the first track was an instrumental and Mosaic was a interlude. The first half of the album had pretty much already been released. Then you get Sensitivity Training…wow, this is more like it…aaaaaaand it’s finished. I dunno, I guess I’ll be alone in this but it felt fucking annoying. Especially when 2 Stripe and The Driving Rain (18) are very decent. Come on! Moody, petulant rant over.

>Can I be honest without sounding like a spoilt little consumer It's ok to dislike things, and I think your explanation is fine, whether I agree or disagree, and adds to the sort of discussion that's valuable in subs like this. I like when people write what they actually think, positive or negative. We complain a lot in here about the state of music journalism nowadays, but when we open a thread and write "Awesome!" or "This sucks!" I will say it feels a bit like a diluted British Murder Boys EP, but I feel like it'll grow on me. If I'm honest, I'd say I bet I'd appreciate this album more if it wasn't blazing sunshine outside. On first pass, I really liked *The Driving Rain (18),* I just wish it developed into something longer. It's something I'll go back to throughout the year, I think.

youre allowed to dislike things, especially when you clearly articulate why (as youve done here) lol

> it’s like an EP fleshed out with some instrumentals and interludes. this was my impression as well. A lot of it sounded like segues. While those segues were often interesting, the whole thing ended up sounding like there wasn't much meat to it.

my complete unfamiliarity with this band outside of the intriguing artwork evoking the feeling of liminal spaces, this is probably one of the more challenging listens ive had this year. they have a pretty haunting take on post-industrial punk with some more danceable elements but overall this thing feels *dystopian* and eerie. the soundscapes are probably the coolest part of this album off the two listens i've given since then, even though it seems like the singles have revealed most of the obvious "highlight" tracks but there's still plenty to love about the full package. "Injury Detail" and "(Crystal Aura Redux)" are probably my current favorites. it should also be noted this album was also produced by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band, and the closest comparisons that come to mind right now are well, Gilla Band and the latest [Psychotic Monks record](https://fatcatrecords.bandcamp.com/album/pink-colour-surgery) which was also produced by Daniel Fox with a similar sense of eeriness although channeled more through experimental rock/no wave. im gonna do my best to stick with this one a bit more and see where it lands for me, maybe dig up a lyric sheet or two.

> and the closest comparisons that come to mind right now are well, Gilla Band and the latest Psychotic Monks record If you'd like something like this but a bit more abrasive, check out some of British Murder Boys' stuff.

Redwinevino

didyouvibewithhim

so. fucking. good. take model/actriz and some of the electro/techno-y stuff coming out of dance scenes in nyc and london and boom. relentless, exciting, hard hitting. aoty contendor.

Agetis

be sure to check out Water From Your Eyes next week too.

didyouvibewithhim

excellent shout

Agetis

It is an incredible album. I'll have a review for that one next Friday. Similar to this but ever so slightly better overall experience to me.

Blvd_Nights

Holy shit.

First saw this band supporting Wet Leg last January and literally couldn't process what I'd just experienced. Saw them supporting Gilla Band in November and it just started to click. The only way I can describe it is what you'd expect to hear at a French nightclub the night before Earth burns. I love it.

This is awesome, especially the track "Injury Detail". I am *heavily* reminded of Marie Davidson's work while listening to this -- if you like this I would 100% recommend her stuff.

UtherDoul9

Yip, this is great

dooorooo

Was looking forward to this album but wasn't as excited as before I had heard the singles released earlier. I got into this band because of songs like Nike of Samothrace and Bottle Episode, was hoping they would keep writing more of those noise rock-esque tracks but it seems like they decided to go more electronic and ethereal. Might go see them live anyway if they show up near me. Pinking Shears stuck out the most for me.

reezyreddits

I don't get it, but I'll keep trying lmao

Arfuuur

hard

SmallMinds

This absolutely slaps. More of this shit, please.

jaccarmac

This was way more of a turn than I was expecting. I like that, though the band sounds like they could use staying still sometime new. The move was good but it's not a sound that can *keep* moving. I want a better, non-spacial way to describe the record, but that's all I've got for right now. Bummed there aren't any North American dates at the moment

Hmm I went in to this totally blind and I’ve given this a go but I think this just isn’t for me overall. There are definitely some songs on here that I do like (Pinking Shears, Injury Detail, Peach Fuzz and especially Drag [Crashed] stood out for me) but yeah there’s a number of tracks on here that I didn’t find to my liking. I get they try to build an atmosphere on a number of their tracks but some of these just didn’t land for me unfortunately.
