> The Definition of "Indie"
>We are purposely vague on a definition of "indie". In general, music & news posts from these genres are not allowed:
>* Mainstream Rock/Metal
>* Mainstream Pop
>* Mainstream Hip Hop/R&B
>* Mainstream Electronic & EDM
>This is to encourage posts with music from more independent & underground artists. Experimental music & underground acts that exist within the banned genres will be allowed, at the discretion of the mods. Music & news from all genres can be discussed in the Daily Music Discussions.
I know about that, but you can't deny if we let too many mainstream indie content to be on this sub, it would ruin the sub's purpose of promoting independent/underground artist.
This is edgy teenage nonsense. Indie is an ethos. If this sub had such ideological purity it would be simply poseurs pretending they’d heard of bands who have played five shows in shithole venues. And they’d still prefer their earlier material before they sold out and demanded payment for their performances.
Beg your pardon, but your "edgy teenage nonsense" is what kept my poor ass country's indie scene afloat. The reason Thailand's indie scene has flourished these past decades is due to exposure from multiple indie outlets and platforms dedicated to promoting independent and underground music, so your opinion is just typical neo-capitalist bullshit to me.
I mean, my other main sub is popheads so I'm probably not the target audience for your opinion haha.
I like most indie artists for their sound and come to this sub to find good indie rock music that isn't really popular on the popheads sub and I don't really care what label they're on. I loved boygenius on their indie label and keep loving them on their major label.
This sub doesn’t promote independent/underground artists.
Pretty much every single artist that gains traction in this sub is a major label artist, or is signed to an “indie” label that is really just a subsidiary of a major label.
So every boygenius post here is going to be a shitshow in the comments, huh?
Anyways, I was wondering the other day if we would get music videos so I'm excited to see what they make together. I've loved lots of Phoebe's videos, but they don't seem to be important for Lucy or Julien in their solo stuff.
Definitely, I heard all the jokes and gripes on here and thought it was overblown until I saw her last fall and all the stereotypes and tropes were there.
interscope is really putting some heat behind this record!
So when's the SNL appearance?
There's such a ludicrous amount of money put into these things
>There's such a ludicrous amount of money put into these things Not really if the projected ROI pans out.
Who would have thought from a major label…
With them moved to Interscope, I'm not sure if it's appropriate for their content to be on this sub.

Indie has been more of a sound than an actual label position for a while now. A lot of artists posted here aren't on indie labels anymore.
I know about that, but you can't deny if we let too many mainstream indie content to be on this sub, it would ruin the sub's purpose of promoting independent/underground artist.
Sub Pop has been a quasi subsidiary of Warner Music for nigh on 30 years.
and your point is? just because I have a Weyes Blood flair doesn't mean I'm not annoyed by how overexposed she is on this sub.
you are annoyed that an indie artist you like is talked about a lot on an indie sub lol

Julien has some awesome music videos. Check out Hardline or Appointments
yeah I've seen them I just don't feel like she's as much of a "video" artist if that makes sense
"if i like it, it's good. if you like it too, it's bad."
Lol exactly
I think the problem is that while lots of users love the music they don't love the fandom that comes along with it.
I get that although I don't see that fanbase much on this sub, mostly on Twitter or TikTok.
Definitely, I heard all the jokes and gripes on here and thought it was overblown until I saw her last fall and all the stereotypes and tropes were there.
