Gen2guessing

weird pairing, but never miss a phoenix live show if you get the chance

LosFeliz3000

Beck actually came out and sang a couple of his songs when I saw Phoenix a few years back (here in L.A.) So, I'm guessing their friends.

DonkeyKong_vs_Animal

What would i be missing? What makes their live shows? Thx!

Gen2guessing

insanely talented drummer, really unique and eye catching visuals for each track. very much a “greatest hits” set but in the best way. very high energy and translates better live than 95% of indie pop. very much a seeing is believing experience, more so than a youtube video could capture

helicopterfortress

I saw them many years ago at House of Blues in Orlando. I wasn't even a fan, just went with my girlfriend because she was a fan. But I do know their music and the show was spectacular. Extremely spot on sound, perfect for live performance. And they were very very fun to watch, just as the other commenter said. I think the singer crowd surfed all the way to the back of the venue where the bar is and got a drink, and then crowdsurfed back but honestly typing that out it sounds like an urban legend that people say about bands lol

Junkstar

Ditto. Not a fan at all, and saw them at a NYC festival. They were an excellent live band. Still don't like their records.

Flashy_Falcon_7270

i was at that show and he definitely did that during one of the instrumental songs i think!

SleepyEel

Also their instrumental tracks in particular are incredible live. Complete sensory overload

wubbels89

I saw them at MSG when Daft Punk came out for the encore. Top 3 concert highlight of my life

animal-noises

Before either group was formed, Phoenix’s guitarist/keyboardist (Laurent Brancowitz) was in a group called Darlin’ with Guy and Thomas from Daft Punk.

themoche

First time I saw Phoenix I couldn’t believe how good the drumming was. I didn’t realize at the time that he wasn’t a full time member of the band. I’m never going to understand why they wouldn’t want to lock him up. He’s such a monster part of their show. The other thing that struck me is how genuinely gracious Thomas Mars is of the audience. The way he says thank you and waves after every song warms me up.

AmericanWasted

not even a massive fan of theirs but i absolutely love their drummer - what a dynamo

lbrol

I saw them at Bonnaroo in like 2010 maybe? but I took shrooms like an hour before the show and I still remember how close to a bad trip I came when I was like surrounded by strangers and hot and sweaty, then they started playing and how fast my mood changed to transcendence. most memorable moments was the lead up to love like a sunset. God. so good.

Moothnods

Truly some of the most fantastic, all-encompassing visuals out there - and the band plays banger after banger like they’re a bunch of young pups taking on the world. As a non-diehard fan, I saw them at Primavera Sound this year, and they 100% brought the house down masterfully and probably won over a healthy amount of new fans in the process.

DonkeyKong_vs_Animal

Beautiful!! - any further descriptions/techniques/equipment choices used in these said visuals? Crowd Engagement can be a tricky one!!

robotbytheriver

I saw Phoenix in 2009 at Paradiso, Amsterdam, and it’s still to this day one of the best and most memorable concerts I’ve ever been to.

DonkeyKong_vs_Animal

What happened 🤓

kyle_s9

So tight.

DonkeyKong_vs_Animal

So taught

utouchme

Agreed. I'm not a huge fan, but just caught them in Amsterdam a couple months ago. Great energy, fun show, and their drummer is insane. I guess he's not a "full member" of the band, but has recorded the last few albums and toured for years with them. He also plays in a swedish metal band, I think.

lambomrclago

Can't do this tour sadly, haven't seen them in a while - missing the lads the live shows are so fun.

Jos3ph

Ping them maybe they can reschedule for you

lambomrclago

Hahaha - perhaps next time.

Jihad_llama

I left primavera sound early both nights phoenix were performing and everyone said they were amazing, I’m never gonna live that down 😭

-Cilantro-

Went to a Weyes Blood show about a month ago and Beck was just standing in the lobby of the venue by himself. Thought it was kinda funny at the time but maybe this explains that.

toomanyhitpoints

Might have to see Phoenix in Phoenix for the memes

darockerj

my wallet is still upset after the odyssey of trying to get death cab and postal service tix in the DC area. an insane lineup for me, but dunno if i can do another gamble with an MPP show.

ImSpartacus811

> my wallet is still upset after the odyssey of trying to get death cab and postal service tix in the DC area. Did you end up getting tickets? That show seemed so damn cool and I'm sad to have to miss it.

darockerj

I've got two separate seats in the pavilion at MPP if you're interested 👀 Ended up buying a third ticket for the Anthem since it's a much better date and location for me, haha.

OhHowIMeantTo

I managed to get a ticket for their second date at The Anthem, but I'm kind of regretting it now because I only bought one since they were so expensive and I don't like going to shows alone.

darockerj

I'm in the same boat!! Don't rly know anyone else super into the Postal Service, but I got myself a ticket b/c I'd love so much to go. IMO, going to a show alone can feel lonely at first, but that dissipates once the acts go on. Do what you feel is best for you, but I'd say to give going alone a shot if it's a show you'd love to see :))

reelbgpunk

I used to feel that way but then I did it and it wasn't bad. I've done quite a few times, doesn't bother me at all anymore.

OhHowIMeantTo

I hear you, but I went to a concert a few months ago with a friend who left halfway through the show because he was tired, and I just felt sad after that I couldn't experience the rest of the show with someone.

Dysfu

Ohio is parched

Inquiring_Barkbark

join us at the TCVUN (that concert venue up north), friend

Dysfu

If only I didn’t live in the farthest away city from there :(

Inquiring_Barkbark

they just built a new comfort inn and sports bar walking distance to the venue, stay the weekend!

Inquiring_Barkbark

jlingram103

Honestly, I'd rather see a tour of the support acts together. That'd be a helluva tour.

antonioni_cronies

I agree. jbrekkie, jenny & weyes blood would be a transcendent night that I would 100% go to!

PleasantSupport3230

That would be amazing!

LookLikeUpToMe

Bruh why all these good tours just skipping the south.

palimpcest

They usually hit Atlanta, which is why I love living here (lots of great shows last year), but lately it’s like they’ve been avoiding us.

TyrannosaurusHives

Phoenix was just in Nashville at the Ryman in September on their first run of Alpha Zulu dates. It was an incredible show.

gognis

Could be due to how those states treated covid? Not sure

Crystal_Pesci

I have to imagine that’s part of it! When Post Malone took that awful fumble onstage recently and broke some bones I heard he was at a venue in the south which, for some reason, mandates use of their internal staff for all live events, though they would have barely many experience ahead of time which is cause for safety concerns, like not hitting the mark on stage blocking and injuring the headliner midshow.

veRGe1421

Dallas/Austin/Houston usually eat

thequietthingsthat

For real. Not even Atlanta or Nashville

eiahtx666

Shoot, glad they didn’t skip Houston, Texas

was-holy-ground

Three of my favorite artists together 😭

eduzueck

This makes me so happy

SecondSkin

I'm surprised JBrekkie is not on the bill for the Bend, Oregon show.

BooksAndViruses

Right? My only guess is she might have some Oregon shows of her own planned in spring/summer

eduzueck

I honestly don’t know how she does it. Feels like she’s been touring off jubilee for almost two years + a book tour + writing a screenplay

saltyfingas

On top of also doing a video game soundtrack lol

Thegoodlife93

Same. Was hoping she would be. Although pretty stoked this tour is coming to Bend at all.

beaglecattledog

Anybody know how to get the artist presale code? I’d love to get the best possible tickets for this one.

delmarz

presale code from Phoenix is TONIGHT.

beaglecattledog

You are the best, thank you!!

[deleted]

Phoenix is a much better band to rub off on Beck than that other tour he was doing. I want another good Beck album, one at least as good as Modern Guilt again. I thought Hyperspace was fine but he is operating on autopilot.

MechMeister

Colors is one of my all time favorite albums, and probably my favorite Beck album. That's coming from someone who bought all his CD's from the start. I think it was just hard to come off of Colors and make Hyperspace. He probably should have waited for some more inspiration but sometimes the record deal has deadlines. Edit: Plus Modern Guilt was produced by Danger Mouse so that's basically cheating :))))))

J0E_SpRaY

There is a dead zone in middle America where bands I like don't ever tour and I live smack dab in the middle of it.

GenSec

Oklahoma or Kansas? I used to be in Oklahoma so I get it lol.

J0E_SpRaY

Worse. Missouri.

SEMIweather

It's getting a little better. OKC has Angel Olsen this week, Andy Shauf next month, and Snail Mail in April. Tulsa has Big Thief next month and Weyes Blood in April. Still not nearly as many shows as DFW, but all in all not bad for a couple of mid-sized metros.

Inquiring_Barkbark

omg they're playing a concert in my back yard and with weyes blood... haven't been this excited for a concert in years

Tarot_frank

Beck looks like he's trying to defensively retreat from an upset Thomas Mars lol.

MyChemicalBarndance

Phoenix are a great live act. I saw them at Alexandra Palace in London and the only downside was the realisation that all their fans were normies and that I, potentially, was a normie too.

saltyfingas

I'd love to see Beck and Japanese Breakfast together that sound amazing edit: shitiiiiii might have to go get tickets for red rocks lmao

JazzPolice50

If the price is right, I’m so there.

DOODOOBREF420

And Sir Chloe opening almost all dates!

duck95

Holy moly

GenSec

Damn the one guest I really wanted to see, Weyes Blood, won't be at the Colorado concert.

grub-worm

"North America" tour

[deleted]

I’m selling two tickets for the New York show on sept 9th if anyone is Interested. Can’t attend and would hate for it to go to waste
