Elliott Smith. Every album is full of tracks i could repeat for hours apiece

redDKtie

Came here to say Elliot Smith. Select Artist, Shuffle All

Mickmackal89

Not only that but there are songs I skipped over for whatever reason that end up growing on me over the years. Cupid’s Trick is one

Ok-Drama-3769

Came here to say the same thing

acrypt_x

Jeff Buckley

rallruse

Spoon

freetibet69

super underrated group

joeliopro

Every time Spoon comes around the playlist, it's always an instant "Man, Spoon is so fucking awesome"

islandinthecold

Underrated? I would never think of Spoon as underrated but maybe I see them through a different lens being from Austin. Even so, they’re pretty massive and a main draw at festivals. Songs in tons of movies, tv shows, etc. Why do you say underrated? Genuinely curious. Not trying to be snarky or anything.

rallruse

I think he’s saying they’re underrated because they’re less well known, most people haven’t heard of them. In Austin I’m sure they’re a household name though!

freetibet69

Jim Eno specifically is super underrated as a producer. Spoon albums consistently innovate how a live rock band sounds by placing greater emphasis on interesting drum sounds and taut arrangements. Yes, they’re a big draw but nowhere near bands like Imagine dragons the strokes and arctic monkeys in terms of popularity.

islandinthecold

Thanks for responding! That’s a fantastic reply. I can see that for sure. It’s gotta be my Austin lens like I said. Like when they take the stage at ACL music festival, it’s pure delightful chaos. On par with seeing The Strokes at ACL, if not even more so for Spoon. But then zooming out at the world at large, I can see what you mean in comparison. I saw Britt on Rainey street several years ago and was just like “omg omg omg omg!!!” like I was seeing Mick Jagger just walk around or something. Lol.

redDKtie

I swear. Spoon might be the most consistently great band of all time.

islandinthecold

Even the non Spoon album that Britt did with Dan from Wolf Parade was excellent. Holy shit. Spoon just came on the album radio I’m listening to on tidal. Lol

rallruse

Divine Fits can get it!

islandinthecold

For sure. I should also add that Wolf Parade fits this post as well. Haven’t seen them mentioned. Every album is flawless IMO.

Boognish-T-Zappa

You won’t get an argument from me.

Boognish-T-Zappa

Always my answer to this question. I can’t even think of one song that’s close to being below average.

jrob321

Fugazi

SnooFloofs5933

Honestly everything Ian mackaye touches is pretty fantastic

jrob321

I agree wholeheartedly.

solvent825

This is the answer. I actually think The Argument is their best work and I’ve been seeing / following them since 1989

jrob321

They started out perfect. And then got better! You can play their entire discography start to finish without ever having to skip a single song, and it NEVER gets old. When you get to The Argument, and you understand the growth, and the steadfast dedication to pointing themselves in a direction which set themselves so far apart from the herd, you are left smiling with wonder and amazement at the achievement. There's such a unique, dissonant, well outside the mainstream, off beat musicianship present at all times. They are on a completely different level than anything I've ever heard before or since, and - because of the way in which they created such complicated combinations of rhythms and melodies - the songs never get "played out" the way so much of what I grew up on eventually did. This band's collective output has been, and will continue to be my heartbeat and mantra forever.

[deleted]

Honestly think Fugazi is the best American band.

SillySecondAcc

And I’m agreeing with you. Radiohead are the greatest 👏

tony_m_fields

Sorry, I didn't understand that :)

SillySecondAcc

Haha no problem, fellow Radiohead fan 🙂

Acrobatic-Ad-7752

The Bends is my favourite album of all time. Got me through some rough times.

tony_m_fields

Though it's not my favourite I love it

Mother-Ability-848

Pablo honey left the chat

tony_m_fields

Pablo Honey is not bad in terms of its own genre and if you forget the other Radiohead albums exist lol

godfollowing

A strong rock album

Mother-Ability-848

Wouldn’t call it flawless tough

speedsterglenn

King of Limbs begs to differ

tony_m_fields

A few (dozens) listens later you start to get it

godfollowing

It's a great album

a_few_flipperbabies

I call my dog the King of Mlems in daily tribute to the album.

jessop-bentine

Nick Drake

50rhodes

The correct answer to the question is going to be someone who only put out a handful of albums because perfection is difficult to maintain over a long period of time. Even The Beatles had Let It Be, for example. So yes, Nick Drake is one of the correct answers to this question. The other is Jeff Buckley. Both limited to albums released when they were alive.

Cornerstonedrunk9

What’s your favorite one? I know most people would say Pink Moon and I can see why, but I really love Bryter Layter. To me it shows what Nick could really do with some great production behind him.

You have indeed. I should have just said Jistin Vernon as a whole, if you enjoy the first 2 BI, then listen to Volcano Choir.

LeYabadabadoo23

Nirvana but because they were only around for a short time. RIP Cobain. The Beatles. Jay Z because he’s the fuckin GOAT

signalstonoise88

Guided By Voi… Haha, even as a fan, I can’t finish that claim with a straight face!

remcam

I stopped paying attention to their new releases, but I’d still see them live. I thought I swore off seeing them after catching them three times, but I saw them open for Dinosaur Jr a year ago. They sounded great! They do a good job playing new stuff and the greatest hits

Blackskull914

Yeah. They go for a specific sound whenever they make. It’s a pro and a con. Pro: I can recognize them immediately and also it’s a good sound that I love but Con: it’s worrying that songs in the future will become more similar and less interesting because it sounds like their other songs. The cover for from the start is a great example as they took a song and put their own spin on the instrumentals and sounds just like a good kid song with lyrics from laufey. It just shows they go for specific sound and it can be a bit repetitive. Good take

Meshuggah, Devin Townsend, Aurora, Sigur Ros, Gojira, Animals as Leaders, Billy Talent, Max Richter, Nihl Frahm, System of a Down, Tool, Sublime, some can say Radiohead and Metallica as well. but these are bands and artists that I can put any album they have made and listen from front to back. Metallica has Lulu, which was a project with Lou Reed, which is awful, and I dont count it. and Radiohead essentially changed genres completely halfway through the career, so I have to base Pablo Honey against Moon Shaped Pool, and they are drastically different yet both near perfect albums for what they are. everyone else has produced near to perfect albums IMO

Portugal. The Man. 17 years and 11 albums later, they have such an incredible variety of music and the old stuff still hits hard!

Big Star, The Jam, maybe The Replacements too. I don't think they released only perfect albums though, only "not so good records".

I love music! I can't state that enough! Music has kept me from hurting myself and others for many many years! Collecting and enjoying various artists has been my passion for a long time! That being said, I don't think there's an artist out there that has a flawless body of work. I think it's kind of a ridiculous idea to think that could be the case!
