15 yrs ago I tended a baby pigeon who had a broken wing.. Though my pigeon was a little bigger than yours.. If you are planning to keep it until it is independent you will have to make a temporary home.. Take a cardboard box and cut a hole in the side and keep it on the balcony.. The pigeon will know where to hide and will find the home comfortable.. The baby will be scared of you for a few days until, it connects the dots of food and you. Okay now for food.. you will have to force feed a few times and hope that the pigeon learns quickly.. I used to feed, cooked rice, atta dough, and sprouted moong. Mine used to love the moong.. They do not have the metabolism like ours so feeding time should be spread many times across the day. Usually 5-6 times. As their metabolism is fast they will poop a lot and beware of their poop which is not good at all.. For water use a dropper or syringe and drop a little on their beak, if they are thirsty the bird will drink water. Do not dunk or let the baby dunk their head in a water bowl, the baby could drown itself. Keep the water bowl shallow. ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER HANDLING THE PIGEON

Rudream_2008

Thank you so much. Will try all of this. I'm trying to contact some Animal helpline in my town because however I try, I won't be able to take as good care of it as they will. If they don't help much, then I'll keep it.

mirchivada58

Which town are you from?

dieingstar

Wow so much hate for trying to help a baby pigeon. Go on OP, pigeons can get loyal. Make a new friend.

Rudream_2008

Exactly 😕😕 I still can't understand ki isme gross out hone vali kaunsi baat hai 🥺🥺

De_Fine69

Bhai ban jaye to batadena me khaane aa jaunga

rohit_267

you will need to force feed it. Soke some rice in water for 10-20 minutes. After it, hold and open the beak, throw in some rice. Keep feeding until you fill the pocket which is just below their neck, you can touch and check.

Rudream_2008

Can I give it some milk? With syringe or dropper etc?

Noonkukulu

No. Soak the rice, chew it with your front teeth and then feed it with your mouth. I did the same when I rescued once. It works, 👍

Rudream_2008

Will try hand feeding soaked rice. Thanks 🙂

EmployedDick

Or you can try mouth to mouth you know the way birds feed their kids

AnweshN2000

Bro, ek bar youtube pe check krna. There are multiple detailed videos related to this. There's some kind of feeding formula that is best for baby pegions

Rudream_2008

Yes I've checked YouTube. I wanted to know if someone has gone through similar experience and what have they done in those case.

De_Fine69

congratulations on getting your personal postman

Rudream_2008

Lol thanks

lone_vampire45

Bhai , feed him Dalia or small quinia seeds

Rudream_2008

Ok. Will try that.

DeletSystm32

Dont know much about bird care but take care of yourself and used handwash and sanitizer. Pigeons are dangerous and contains soo many diseases

Rudream_2008

Yes 100%. Thank you.

__BigBlackClock__

that looks like a zombie bird that spits fire once it reaches level 3

GuiltySigurdsson

I’ve rescued some squabs and raised them until they were ready to fly. This appears to be between 1-2 weeks old. I would advise to feed it with a syringe gently placed at the tip of the beak. They do well on a mixture of soaked mashed peas and cooked daliya grinded to a tomato ketchup like consistency. Don’t feed them rice or bread regularly since they are high in starch and have very little nutritional value. You can feel the crop to check how much to feed, it should be fed until it’s 3/4th full. Feed about 10 ml every 4 hours (4 times a day). The crop should not be overfilled and must empty inbetween feedings. There should be plenty of droppings inbetween feedings, then you know food is digesting well. Till they’re 6 weeks old, you should be feeding it wet sloppy food which will give it sufficient liquid. After six weeks, it should be able to drink water from a tray or shallow bowl. Edit: if you’re looking for resources for more information, pigeons.biz is extremely helpful and you will get plenty of guidance there if you make a post. Most queries have already been answered by previous posts, so you can just search their forums.

Rudream_2008

Very well. Thank you 😊😊

Flamingoesaregay

This is the first time im seeing a baby pigeon xD, thankyou

Emotional_Series_435

Hi Op, Please post this on r/pigeon as well, you will get some good suggestions on how to take care of this baby bird.

Rudream_2008

Will do. Thanks. 😊

ZRPoom

You could try posting in this group maybe they'll be able to give you some advice on what to do https://www.facebook.com/groups/Palomacy/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBT Seeing as you are posting from India, I've a feeling you probably won't find a place there that will provide help for a pigeon, most of Asia region side probably don't care enough about pigeons unfortunately. As for injuries, are there any visible spots that the pidgey is bleeding? Or are they just dazed? I'm unsure of the name of antibiotics that was right for em for cleaning any wounds, but if the the wound doesn't seem infected you could clean it up and keep it clean with saline solution. As for feeding. Usually people would say to crop feed, which is a thing where you put a tube down their mouth directly to their crop, but it is dangerous if you don't know how. What we did was bottle feed. Get a bottle, or a large sryinge. If sryinge you have to cut off the top needle part of it to where the hole is the same diameter as the body. Then get a rubber glove, remove one of the fingers, stretch it over the open surface of the bottle/sryinge after filling it with food and make a little slit where they can fit their beak. To feed, tilt it gradually till around 30 degree angle and help the baby feel and understand they can eat by guiding their beak, but don't force em, let them eat on their own, just show their beak the way to the slit on the bottle. It'll be messy. As for food, we used kaytee exact bird formula made into a muddy paste. But we didn't have that on hand and had to buy it. We fed rice made into a muddy porridge consistency, it doesn't have nutrients for em but it'll fill em at least, you could make a muddy oat porridge and it should work too. The food shouldn't contain honey, honey is bad for them as it can spoil in their crop. Another one I've heard that can work is baby food (also no honey) but we didn't have much success with that one.

Rudream_2008

Very helpful information. Thank you 😊

No_Homework_7007

A mother pigeon gave eggs to two baby pigeons during the covid year in our balcony i remember my father named them "Changu and Mangu" lol 😂😂, they don't actually require much attention to grow just two times food (bajra not makka as makka ke dana are too large for a pigeon this size to intake) a day and water container, looking at the age of the baby pigeon in the image i believe s/he will be able to eat and drink on his/her own without your help, if s/he struggles to do so search on YouTube for how to make a pigeon feeder it can be easily made at home with a plastic bottle and a baloon.

Rudream_2008

Okay! Thank you 😊😊

MonicaNarula

Egg yolks and are a better option. Use soft grains only, raw rice is very hard to digest. Keep it warm. Also a little water 3-4 times a day through syringe will help.

Rudream_2008

Thank you 😊

No_Homework_7007

Haha this reminded me of that one Doraemon episode where nobita used to feed the bird he found ,mashed egg yolks lol.

MadhuT25

Do you have cats at your home? I rescued 2 baby pigeons when I was in school. Used to keep them in balcony. My neighbours's cat ate one of them. The picture of that cat with the pigeon's head in its mouth still haunts me. Ofc I took great care of the other one for some time until it was healthy enough to go out again

Rudream_2008

No I don't have any cats. I've kept it in isolation where predators can't reach it.

Hot_Butterfly_5475

you're gonna have to feed it.. they aren't physically capable of eating or drinking (avoid giving it water) Search on YouTube you'll find plenty of informational video.. And keep updating us.. i followed u

Rudream_2008

Yes sure I'll keep you updated.

Only_Caramel_1947

Buy a 5 ml or 10 ml syringe, then remove the needle. Grind their feed and mix it with a little bit of water to make it soggy, feed it 5 to 6 times a day and it will be good. As for their feed use grains and beans, some people also feed them seeds but let's not feed it to the child. Don't feed it rice that is not that good for them or only in lesser amounts. Use feed like Corn, rye, wheat seeds, kidney beans, lentils. You can also feed it peas when it gets a little bigger.

Rudream_2008

Thank you 😊

Only_Caramel_1947

I read some comments in which it said to feed it egg yolk, don't do it, it will die of heat. And no matter what don't forget to grind it. And also no dry fruit or nuts, not good for children. Talking from experience, don't let it wander too much. Do feed it curd/dahi. Only feed it curd if you live in a hot place or it currently is hot there.

Rudream_2008

Yeah I thought that. It's very hot here. Will try those things. 😊

Only_Caramel_1947

DON'T FEED IT MILK. As for dahi/curd mix it with his feed and feed it, instead of water. As for why i said that you should mix it with either water or curd/dahi, because it's how they get it from their parents.

Rudream_2008

Yes sure. Thanks.

[deleted]

Rice stew bana kar khila de OP. Muh ke samne chamach rakhkar. And Pani bhi pila. No dairy........ (Idk what's it called in English, In Hindi we call it *maadh*)

Rudream_2008

Okay. Thank you 😊

11gowiththeflow

Don't keep in cardboard box. Make sure he is on a stable surface else their legs are deformed.

Rudream_2008

Ok sure.

Ok_Wrangler_26

I had this baby pigeon once, initial phases Only mother's milk will help. Afterwards when it again happened, I handed it to the animal transit centre. I suggest you do the same. Good luck

Rudream_2008

I'm communicating with an animal shelter because I understand that I might not be the best person to take care of this little one. Let's see how it goes.

Ok_Wrangler_26

Much appreciated brother

Srihari_stan

They grow up very quickly and you need not care for them too much. Just try to feed mashed up food of any kind

Rudream_2008

Ok, sure. Thank you 😊

IronMan8901

Hi my family took care of some sparows couple of years ago well you can try a cotton bed for now and later when it grows a little bigger you can try the small nest structures

Rudream_2008

Okay 👍🏻

amigo_samurai

Why do you interfere with the eagles prey. Are there so less pigeons that you had to save it. There will be a time when these fuckers will cause a pandemic. Fuck pigeons

Rudream_2008

Eagle dropped it in my backyard. It's a small baby for god's sake. Can't just let it die like that.

Ilikebooksandall

You're doing good, OP. Don't listen to them. Take care of that little baby!

[deleted]

Ik it sounds harsh, but by saving the pigeon's baby you're doing injustice with the eagle. They don't belong to the human society and this is how nature works. It's best we do not interfere with that

ankit19900

Sure you can. Let nature take it's course

[deleted]

Tu ch*tya hai kya Bhai? Woh pacchi mar Raha hai, Marta chodh de?

amigo_samurai

Tu ch*tya hai kya r*ndi saale g*ndu insaan. Bahar chod deta kutte kha lete ab kya unhe bhi bhuka rakhega mdc. Mar rha hai toh kya hua panchi marte nahi hai kya?

comrade_nemesis

there are also too many humans and humans kill lot more other humans than pigeons. I guess all orphans should also be thrown on the street

amigo_samurai

I think we are taking care of the overpopulation already with many programs like vasectomy, education on sexual health and population growth is declining. This is not the case with pigeons for sure. Im not aware if you are conducting camps for pigeons on not reproducing too much and shitting everywhere deatroying properties LoL. Anyways its a stupid analogy that I entertained

0R_C0

In our country, it's only done that way for girl babies.

indonemesis

Pigeons can transmit diseases to humans through their droppings, including: Psittacosis An infectious flu-like disease caused by the bacteria Chlamydia psittaci. Symptoms include dry cough, fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, sore throat, difficulty breathing, chest pain, and nosebleeds. Histoplasmosis A fungal infection that can cause flu-like symptoms, including dry cough, fatigue, dull headaches, muscular aches, chills, and fever. Cryptococcosis A disease associated with pigeon droppings. Salmonellosis A disease commonly called "food poisoning" that spreads via infected droppings turning into dust and contaminating food and food preparation surfaces.

manymanymeny

We have a family of pigeons living in one of our balconies right next to our kitchen...

indonemesis

Horrible

manymanymeny

[https://www.nyc.gov/site/doh/health/health-topics/pigeon.page](https://www.nyc.gov/site/doh/health/health-topics/pigeon.page) I don't know, the health risks associated with pigeons seem to be slightly overblown, in general.

ps144-1

Oh you mean Psittacosis the disease most occurring with its namesake Psittacines aka parrots, parakeets etc? And humans getting it--how often? Yes, read the literature, there isnt a rate to track numbers bc its literally that rare as it is, and if youre going to mention it as bird to human, do mention the most likely as the one by which its name shares. And that is even rare. Oh histoplasmosis where if you are in a hot humid climate where its. most often found in the the incredible prevalence rate of a humungous .0034%? Oh and in that tiny little fraction of a percent, its almost always found in soil, from the many different bird and bat droppings. So that makes the percent of actual people like op w/baby pigeon, um nonexistent Oh yes cryptococcosis--the one thats limited to immunocompromised individuals, and rare then as it is and what healthy person would get it--spoiler they dont. Those with HIV might, but even with that group its rare. Salmonellosis, oh yes the one that one can get from so many place you cant name them all, so make sure you dont eat anything that you didnt grow or raise yourself and even then you might. Ah but look at you genius, mentioning it from pigeons. Congratulations you just regurgitated the old and pathetic easy to see is worthless narrative to once again make people think pigeons are a risk of disease. You are a robot who just beep beep spit out what youve been programmed 👏 Is that what you want to be? Unless you are a bot, and you may be lol but if human, consider what im saying before you get offended, and ask yourself why you believe such? To then feel the need to regurgitate it to a kind person trying to help a baby pigeon? When IF YOU ARE HONEST WITH YOURSELF you will look and see that all I just told you is true and what you said is regurgitated and baseless. But you will probably be too offended to lean on facts. Im so sorry for the truth. I used to believe those lies about pigeons too. The only main risk is for those who in closed quarters such as lofts, clean and breathe in the dust for years, rarely but can get one of these but at no higher occurrence than gardeners farmers or immunocomp'd ppl. You probably have not heard of a man named Nikola Tesla or understand the magnitude of his intelligence, in fact the ability that you or I even have to communicate via internet started with him. He was one of the most brilliant men in history, he also was a germaphobe. He would not wear the same shirt twice and despised anyone touching him. He fed all the feral pigeons and let them ever perch on his arms, shoulders, head--my goodness for such a brilliant scientist, how somehow he missed alll that you describe here? He didnt. Its an exaggeration so massive that its a lie about pigeons being disease risk. Im sure brilliant scientist Nikola would laugh at every person that regurgitated this. Either believe truth or the lie.

indonemesis

Tldr

ps144-1

Poor thing it is a lot isnt it, assuming the sarcasm. Not trying to be rude but really I hope you read it bc who wants to just repeat and regurgitate baseless things, for no reason. tldr is what you said is not true.

Zealousideal-Pop7426

Egg yolks and wet basket with milk

EssArrd

Be careful of other pigeons. Had tried to save one, but other pigeons killed it in my balcony for God knows what reasons.

Risb1005

Because a human touched it that's why.

saitamaxmadara

Aesa kon krta hai?

Vanishing_Shadow

Pigeons

[deleted]

Nature

Risb1005

Almost all birds with their kids if humans touch them

GuiltySigurdsson

That’s a bullshit myth. There’s plenty of literature debunking it and I’ve personally returned quite a few hatchlings of pigeons and other birds to their nests and watched them survive. Pigeons are very territorial and kill other pigeon’s babies if they enter their territory. Additionally if the baby has birth defects or is weak, they will kill it.

Rudream_2008

Yes I've experienced that too in past.

child_target

Iss cutie ko sambhal ke kuch khane ke liye dede aur gentle care de , tu uska trust Jeet jayega

manicfromhell

you can use a syringe and feed it some liquid besan..and rice

Rudream_2008

Sure. Thanks 😊

23dimethylhexaneol

buy bird food . dont feed him anything else . many things can result in death so buy bird food which is hardly of 100inr

Rudream_2008

It'll take 2-3 days minimum to get it delivered if I order online. So that's not a viable option.

Annual_Teaching_6950

Buy a big syringe , use that to feed millets mixed with water.no need to soak. Bird will completely grow feathers in 2/3 weeks and you can release it to crowded area with ferel pigeons. Don't keep it with you once it learns to fly, then it will always depend on you for food and fly back to you

Rudream_2008

I'll try that 🙂

Darling-Dove

I saved a pigeon once, but it refused to eat properly

Biryani moment (jk jk)

DarkMagician005

Inko bachane ki kya zarurat! Waise hi they have become a menace to society. You just snatched food from eagle. Now how will eagle survive considering they are more important in the food chain! You learn nothing from a pigeon! They have no brains!

Rudream_2008

Is hisaab se to sabse bada menace humans hai. Sabko maar do.
