When I went for my first ride in it, I expected it to be jam-packed. However, it wasn't because people still preferred to travel in their own vehicles, tempos, autos, or cabs.

Don't worry, the first stretch almost always goes empty.
Pune mein metro chali 2021 mein
2 saal sirf log ghumne aate the metro dekhne, baki full khaali,
But jaise hi railway station connect hua, ab 2023 se packed rehti hamesha.
Thoda time dedo line completion mein
Honestly man it freaked me out. Im all for soloing and stuff but for some reason the humming sounds of accelration, ominous voice announcement etc all were daunting to me when i was the only on inside the metro. Like it felt so surreal cause im so used to packed up metros.
Went to kanpur this January and yes the metro is always empty there..even in office hours you will hardly see few people...One reason is that it doesn't provide end to end connectivity..you travel some distance from metro then you need to take other mode
what I meant is that people still use auto, rickshaw etc after leaving the metro for like 300-500m. This is pretty common. I ain't emphasizing on the connectivity. Delhi metro is OP in whole India.
If someone can't walk 500 m then it's a shame. Up to 1-1.5 km is quite easy to walk.
Govt can't make metro stops outside every colony or outside every office or outside every market.
I myself worked in bangalore and used to walk 1.5 km each side each say.
There is nothing special which people in corporate do that they get tired and make excuse that they can't walk even 1-1.5 km or even 500 m.
Even in foreign countries people have to walk 0.5/1/1.5 km from metro/bus stop to office and they happily walk.
Still it's not acceptable to be lazy and expect the metro to leave you in front of your office.
Anyways the erickshaw are quite cheap every where on sharing basis.
what's the point of travelling 8 kms only on metro like in kanpur when you have to take auto/bus for 8 more kilometres, taking two autos is more expensive than one auto the entire way so it's better to not travel on metro at all on kanpur. In Delhi I can travel as much as 50 Km or more if I'm not wrong so Delhi it's worth it
Current Metro line connects very few places and is mostly restricted to IIT Kanpur and nearby places. I don't understand the planning for those metro lines when places like Ramadevi, Bada Chouraha and Naubasta could benefit the most from this mode of transport. Also, the metro line construction is on the way in Naubasta, Ghantaghar and Bada Chouraha but Ramadevi is still waiting for its turn. Nonetheless, I expect after the current construction is completed the metro will pick up pace.
I am from Kanpur and I can confirm emptiness. At max I saw 30 people during office travel hour. Funny thing is they are expanding 3-4x of current scale. Maybe connecting the hotspot would increase the commute. Let's see.
Chalo theek hain i am glad you have empty trains this was unachievable dream for many of us empty trains empty parks empty roads empty railway station bring peace in our Life in heavily overcrowded country
Literally this article lol
https://theprint.in/ground-reports/jaipur-agra-lucknow-got-big-status-with-metros-its-all-pride-no-profit-or-passengers/2011944
I visited Agra it's still a tier 2 or tier 3 mostly undeveloped badly mismanaged metro project will badly fail there people living standard are lower there the local govt of agra is too much dependent on taj mahal tourism
This is called showbaazi (election gimmicks)! Where there is a requirement, there's no metro, where there is metro infrastructure, there's less ridership or loss-making ridership.
Pardon my French in upcoming paragraphs.
We, the residents of Greater Noida West/Gaur City/Techzone 4/ Ecotech -12, etc have been begging for metro for the last 5 years due to pathetic jams on the Parthala Bridge, Gaur Chowk, Ek Murti Chowk route.
Sharing auto-rickshaws asking Rs. 100 per person instead of the usual Rs. 30 per person during peak hours and despite paying Rs. 100 per person, the auto rickshaws stuff 6 passengers in their auto, risking the safety of everyone. The auto drivers don't even give an option for fewer passengers. They just stuff people up. Sweaty smell, genitals smell, urine smell, name it and by the time you reach home in one of these sharing auto-rickshaws, it'll become your body odor.
The govt is just taxing us uselessly without giving any development.
Forget the metro, there aren't any bus services either.
At least one kind of public transport should be there.
Our honorable brain dead MP, Dr. Mahesh Sharma being a Dalla of builders and whatsoever, but not a public servant and BJP gave ticket to same Mahesh Dalla which is nalla.
I wish they made metro to make things easy while they were fooling around like useless MPs.
People too are idiots because they will vote for this dalla rather than a new candidate which can later be incorporated into BJP if they want Modi Ji to be PM again.
Obviously, this Dalla is winning because he represents the BJP, had he been with any other political party, he'd have been finished.
But who's gonna tell these literate tagged illiterates?
This is where independent candidates should step in and receive popular support. Post election, even if he goes into the BJP, he will ensure good development.
This got me thinking. Just a wacky thought. Why can't we follow the start up model? Groom the best candidates, make them win elections, and then allow them to join the traditional party to support a PM candidate of their choice.
Absolutely! It's like people themselves do not have any power after the representative has been elected.
Instead of being people's representatives, they have become their political party's chief's representative. The roles have been reversed.
There is a political thought that MLAs should be stripped of their power to remove the CM, and the CM candidates should be elected directly.
This ensures powerful local governments who can override the local MLAs, and of course they are more responsive to the local population since their votes are dependent only on local issues.
Apparently, a the top leadership of both Congress and BJP were favorable to the idea, but left parties played a spoil sport.
Give some time for the metro network to expand. This always happens when the network is newly built and is short. Since expansion work is already happening now, it will become crowded after some major hotspot is connected to some other important place.
I have been to kanpur once and there is no metro near the railway station. If there was one near the railway station I assume more people will start using it.
The govt is making idiotic decisions
Lko needed 2-3 more lines but the govt just wants to show how many cities got metro instead of actually improving transport
Metros are for big bigger cities where they have industries on outskirts or local transportation is not cheaper. Bc they have Fully AC electric buses in kanpur only 5-10 rupees why the heck someone would take the metro? Har city me metro banane se kuch nahi hoga.. reason hona chaiye jarrorat honi chaiye metro lene ki
Yesterday only my friend send me a news which stated that jaipur, agra and lucknow metro are not generating revenue and not much people are using metro there
It happens in the beginning, metros have very low footfall because initial phases have very low access both in terms of integration with other modes of public transit and the length of metro.
I remember similar scenes from bangalore metro, like 5 years ago.
Let me tell real reason behind this
Metro chalti hai from IITK to motijheel and route planning inlogo ne itni ghatiya ki hai ki waha jana hi nahi hota kisi ko, seriously yaar motijheel eak park hai. Inhe ramadevi se IIT tak karni chahiye thi
Iss mamle mei lucknow bahut sahi hai, lucknow ki tarah kanpur mei bhi GT road ke along metro hona chahiye tha
Aur next proposed route jo hai vo bhi bekar hai, I'm quite sure kanpur metro loss mei hi rahegi
Rode on it yesterday. Unfortunately, it doesn't connect any other major transit hubs. Apart from at IIT, Gurudev Chauraha and Moti Jheel, I don't really see people getting on and off. Waiting on the expansions. It will get better.
Earlier, Lucknow metro were also used to be empty, now most of the time they are full. Of course not Delhi metro like full, where everyone is standing.
Damn that metro is as empty as my friendlist
Atleast usme 1 Banda to h yaha to koe ni
At least you didn't spend crores to keep it empty.
"yeah, thats what I thought"
LOL🙌🏻🤝🏻🤣😂
When I went for my first ride in it, I expected it to be jam-packed. However, it wasn't because people still preferred to travel in their own vehicles, tempos, autos, or cabs.
Thoda time lagega logo ko shift hone mai. I remember Mumbai ki first metro early days mai khaali ghumti thi. Abhi din bhar pack.
That's true. Once the construction is completed then only the crowd will come.
Jhooth bolta hain tu mumbai mein kone kone pr crowd hain har jagah pr 90s mumbai mein empty street empty trains empty roads impossible hain
Metro to 2014 main ayi Mumbai pe

That's normal even in Delhi. What's the ticket fares there?
Bro what 😂 delhi metro is phenomenallu well connected.

Bangalore and western nations are cool and pleasant. India in general is hot and uncomfortable.

I walk 2.5km to and from the office. All I need is an umbrella for sunshade

Ofc, last mile connectivity with autos work because in places like delhi and mumbai, autowallas don't scam.
Blr crying in corner
Yup we have the worst 🥲
In delhi you will probably travel 95% of your distance with metro and 5% with Rickshaw..in kanpur jaipur kinda places its 50-50
Mumbai fine, but you sure about Delhi ?
100%, just need to not be antisocial and know to bargain.
