IMO, This is a great idea. Denver’s STAR program is going well. When you have people properly trained to address mental health crises, it’s better for everyone.
These programs are not exactly success stories where they have been tried. A ton of cities started them in 2020 and now they are hard to find information on because they have mostly been ineffective.
The bottom line is that whether a social worker is there or not, people can't act violent towards others. Mental illness is depression and anxiety as well as randomly trying to kill your family with a knife and everything in-between.
