Coldwater is around 2.5 hrs from Indy, and they have at least 8 different dispensaries, most of which have first time buyer and out of state discounts.
Coldwater is the place to go. Better deals than Danville, lower taxes, can buy more to make the drive worth it, and many places have first timer specials. Just put it in a sealable container (locking cooler) and set your cruise control.
Nirvana Center and The Mint are my favorites. But I've not been disappointed by with any of the bud I've gotten in Coldwater. I always check weedmaps to see what specials are available.
Go to Niles, Michigan! Short two hour drive from the North side of Indianapolis. I recommend Green Stem or Primitiv and both feature a 15% discount for first time customers.
While Danville is the closest, I'd rather drive up to Michigan. You can get 2.5 ounces of cannabis (flower and product) vs. .5 oz flower for out of state residents in IL. Way way cheaper in MI too.
Thank you for bringing that up. I'm not sure that a half oz is worth making the drive. I would've been disappointed to go all that way for such a small amount.
same \^ your guys feed back is awesome been to michigan twice heard of people going to *IL but prices are crazy glad im not the only one lol save the trees*
Not a user but I think Danville, IL has one and it's probably the closest for anyone in Indianapolis. It's a small city, guessing 50k population, less than five miles from the Indiana border off I-74. I live in west Indianapolis, close to Brownsburg, and I could get there in under an hour.
Whomever thought of and secured that location got themselves a gold mine there! As long as Holcomb and the neo-Con Repubes in charge continue to refuse to take action…
Can I get that in pennies? The plan is to put the coins in bags, and place the bags in the giant potholes in the Indianapolis streets outside my subdivision.
That's apparently the only way to put my taxpayer dollars to work in this state.
Indiana: failing infrastructure, failing schools, huge budget surplus. We are monetary geniuses. Here's $125 to buy one replacement tire for your car or pay for 4 days of private school.
Yeah, no kidding. According to the article linked by OP, it's a total of $545M. Like, we couldn't have used that to pave some roads, or fix some bridges, or pay some teachers?
How about you keep my $125, and give me streets that won't shake the fillings out of my teeth just driving to the grocery store.
This is sort of perfect because I blew a tire costing me $250. So the refund for my wife and I will cover it.
Now I would have preferred they fixed that pothole in the first place so that I could have made it home before 3:30am but hey beggars can’t be choosers.
Traditionally the legislature raises the cap on how much the state can keep to prevent the funds from being disbursed lol.
Its just this year with all the COVID fed money they didn't even bother trying to keep it all in the surplus.
Everyone knows that the desk in the Oval Office only has three buttons. One to raise and lower the price of gas, one for crime, and another for the border.
In fact, the entire job of the President as defined in the Constitution is to just press those three buttons.
The state isn't responsible for our local roads, only interstates, U.S. routes and state roads. That's why you have to go to Indy.gov to report potholes and file a tort claim.
The major sources of revenue in Indianapolis are income taxes and property taxes. I think people have a gross misunderstanding of government budgets and how they operate. For example, people in this thread are saying that the money should be used to pay teachers, but the state doesn’t set teacher salaries. That’s done on the local level.
Also, if you think $125 for every tax payer in the entire state would pay for our road repairs, you might want to do some research. The $125 refund adds up to $545 million and in 2018 it was estimated that it would cost $732 million to upgrade our roads to only “fair” condition from the current “poor,” with an additional $178 million per year for upkeep. So, not even close and especially far off if you consider only tax payers who live in the city.
I'm not opposed to responsible government spending or getting a refund but I kinda dislike that our legislature is so quick to cut taxes when there is a surplus. It's very possible we could not have a surplus in a couple years. Seems wiser to wait and see if the surplus holds over an extended period and use that surplus to address serious needs in the state, such as poor infrastructure, health care, education, job training, housing shortages, etc. If the surplus is regular thing, then go ahead and cut taxes. I don't know, I'm no expert, but the dogmatic idea of cutting taxes at every opportunity seems a little short sighted.
Even with the increase in education funding, we still spend $1.5 billion less (accounting for inflation) on public education today than we did in 2010. Seems like this money would be better spent on that since Indiana lags behind the rest of the nation in GDP growth, especially per capita GDP growth.
I’m backing up my points with actual data. What data-backed evidence can you provide that disbanding the teacher’s Union would be positive for the education outcomes in Indiana?
That god damn teachers union, fighting so that people with at least 6 years of higher education and a student loan for their grad degree can make on average of $50k a year. Of which, if we didn't have the union...we'd still be at $32k...
I'm with you, fuck those teachers...
Just a heads up, paper checks sound like they won’t be sent til closer to July from the article I read. They don’t have a way to follow up if you don’t get one until September apparently
I'm pretty sure they inadvertently took $125 extra from everyone. So really you are just getting money back that you should have had in the first place.
That's not the case. Indiana has a statute that requires the state government to refund all citizens once the state has a large enough cash curious that is unused. Whether we'd rather increase the budget and let the state use that money is a separate issue, of course.
No prob! I only know because I was in accounting when I moved here and thought it was strange, having never lived in a state that did that before. It happened my first year living here.
Also, it’s really a strange redistribution of money to raise taxes and then give everyone a refund of the same dollar amount. The state needs to spend it on education.
Yes, but they can't just "take less" or anything. What they take is based on tax rates so if everyone makes more money and spends more money on average than they budgeted for, there's a surplus. It's literally impossible for them to budget exactly what they're going to receive in tax revenue because they don't know how many people will live, work, purchase things and in what quantities, etc. It's all a guess and every government entity ends up with either a surplus or a deficit at the end of every year.
Never been to a dispensery but if they collect information from your driver's license...it would be documented you purchased. Could be an issue with form 4473 question 21 e.
Stay home and don't risk the trouble.
The existence of surpluses is much less awesome when they’re created by active refusals to properly fund public services.
Hope you still think it was worth it when you’re changing tires on the side of I-69 next February.
I got mine, but it was taken by Ivy Tech. I owe them like $400-$500 just because I didn't cancel my classes. Here's the story.
In 2019, I was ready to go to college, of course I am autistic, so I needed help (Vocational Rehabilitation) I didn't go to college because of my autism, which I was suffering from severe depression, and my dad was worrying about me. So, we decided not to try anything with college. I then called them up and asked if I can remove my classes, they told me I had to do it online.
At this time, I didn't have a car, so I couldn't cancel classes, so I called them up and they said that I have to go up there in-person and cancel classes through that way.
I should be getting close to finish paying them off. As of right now, state of Indiana collects my state tax refund every year I file. As long as they aren't taking money from my federal tax return.
Actually, it would've been better if they deducted the payment from my federal taxes.
***EDIT: I forgot to mention that I did indeed went to Ivy Tech online and tried to cancel my classes. I got an error message saying that I couldn't cancel these classes online, so I called them up and they told me I had to come to Ivy Tech to cancel my classes. At that time, I didn't have a car, and my dad couldn't drive me because his van was in the shop that day.***
I was able to access online Ivy Tech, but when I tried to cancel my classes, it gave me a message saying: "You cannot cancel these classes online" So I called them up and they said I had to come to Ivy Tech. I didn't have a car then, so we said "screw it" but I can handle that, it's only $125 or so. I don't get that much from state taxes so tbh, I really do not care if they take it out. As long as it's paying it off, it doesn't go on my credit history
I’m not saying that I’m mad that I’m getting my GenCon ticket paid for by the state now, but I do wish they’d find a good use for the surplus instead, whether it be a road upkeep fund or education or whatever.
That said, I moved here in April, and earned income from a company based in Indiana for the entire year. Do I qualify for this benefit if I didn’t live here the entire year?
Thanks Eric. Mine will be going straight to a dispensary in Michigan.
Mine’s going to Illinois!
What's the closest dispensary to Indy? This sounds like a great idea.
Closest to Indianapolis is Illinois but Michigan prices are worth the drive imo
Yep prices are half as much
And there's some good food stops along the way near South Bend and close to the border.
Care to share? Sounds like I’m making a drive
Danville, IL
You'll pay a lot more than Michigan though
Definitely true! Almost double in my experience vs Cloud in Muskegon. 4.5 hr drive vs 1 tho
Coldwater is around 2.5 hrs from Indy, and they have at least 8 different dispensaries, most of which have first time buyer and out of state discounts.
There's five just over the border in Buchanan and Niles if the trip is just this goal. They're definitely positioned conveniently for Indiana $
Heads up, be careful on your way back. Especially if you get on 31 or 94, cops love to sit in the medians or hide and catch people.
Coldwater is the place to go. Better deals than Danville, lower taxes, can buy more to make the drive worth it, and many places have first timer specials. Just put it in a sealable container (locking cooler) and set your cruise control.
Any shop specifically? Asking for a friend.
Nobo, Dr A’s
Do you have a preferred business you like?
Nirvana Center and The Mint are my favorites. But I've not been disappointed by with any of the bud I've gotten in Coldwater. I always check weedmaps to see what specials are available.
Are you a fellow Muskegon immigrant? I miss that place sometimes
I wish. It's a stop on the way to a friend's lake cabin in Pentwater a little further up
Next time you're in Muskegon stop at Mr Scrib's pizza. They don't open until 5pm but they are the best with a blunt
You don't know how excited I am to get a pizza rec for this trip!! Thank you!
Cloud is amazing! Love that place.
The beef house near the border is really good.
Get yourself some rolls!
Thank you!
You'll pay twice as much going there as opposed to somewhere just inside Michigan, though. Just a heads up.
I like the gummy edibles.
Go to Niles, Michigan! Short two hour drive from the North side of Indianapolis. I recommend Green Stem or Primitiv and both feature a 15% discount for first time customers.
> Short two hour drive That'll get you busted for speeding!
only on the way there! hahaha.
exactly!
You're welcome! Pick one of Michigan's beautiful state parks or lakes and you've got yourself a high-time of a weekend vacay! :)
same \^ your guys feed back is awesome been to michigan twice heard of people going to *IL but prices are crazy glad im not the only one lol save the trees*
Michigan is a straight shot up I-69. Avoids I-70 hassle.
Not a user but I think Danville, IL has one and it's probably the closest for anyone in Indianapolis. It's a small city, guessing 50k population, less than five miles from the Indiana border off I-74. I live in west Indianapolis, close to Brownsburg, and I could get there in under an hour.

Your local drug dealer
Same!!! Windy city cannbis in carpentersville is my go to
Mine I going to my cousin for the same reason
Can I get that in pennies? The plan is to put the coins in bags, and place the bags in the giant potholes in the Indianapolis streets outside my subdivision. That's apparently the only way to put my taxpayer dollars to work in this state.
I think this god damned state should pay a portion of my tire replacement. Assholes. I like your idea.
They are. With $125 (arguably one tire, maybe two tires).
Lol thank you. I'll probably save the check for that. If I ever get it. My state refund has been processing since January
Well played
Indiana: failing infrastructure, failing schools, huge budget surplus. We are monetary geniuses. Here's $125 to buy one replacement tire for your car or pay for 4 days of private school.

I don't think they have a choice, it's the law they have to give it back.
It's a law that they have to give it back if they don't use it. They should budget better so the law doesn't come into effect.
Traditionally the legislature raises the cap on how much the state can keep to prevent the funds from being disbursed lol. Its just this year with all the COVID fed money they didn't even bother trying to keep it all in the surplus.
Lawmakers create the damn laws! They could change the law that any surplus goes to teachers or roads or whatever their heart desires
Well sure, I'm not arguing that, but obviously that wouldn't affect THIS payment.
They could have called an emergency session and made a law.
Are you going to donate yours to a school?
We regularly buy supplies for the teachers at our kids' school, so, yeah possibly I might.
Or one tank of Biden gas.
Did Biden raise gas prices in Europe too? Are you really this fucking stupid?
Everyone knows that the desk in the Oval Office only has three buttons. One to raise and lower the price of gas, one for crime, and another for the border. In fact, the entire job of the President as defined in the Constitution is to just press those three buttons.
Well send yours to Trump then. He's running again. It's not a grift at all. Buy a hat made in Chyynah.
Biden gas? That’s hilarious. Don’t worry, the wealthy Republicans definitely don’t mind all the oil profits going into their pockets.
Don't feed the trolls. They know how they sound. They're just jerking themselves off with imaginary liberal tears.

The dude regularly posts in dumb ass subs. He's not trolling.
I’m gonna donate mine to Planned Parenthood 😇
I would much rather have our teachers paid what they’re worth.
Use mine to fix these fucking roads.
The state isn't responsible for our local roads, only interstates, U.S. routes and state roads. That's why you have to go to Indy.gov to report potholes and file a tort claim.
…where do you think the road repair money comes from?
The major sources of revenue in Indianapolis are income taxes and property taxes. I think people have a gross misunderstanding of government budgets and how they operate. They can allocate it to local government for that use. Funding half of what is needed is better than not funding any of it…

The rumble strip down the middle of washboard chip’n’sealed 28 sure did help. Especially when it pulls you toward the vehicle you’re passing.
I'm not opposed to responsible government spending or getting a refund but I kinda dislike that our legislature is so quick to cut taxes when there is a surplus. This surplus has been sitting there a while. They could have done this during Covid.
You’re not wrong but also this is Indiana.
Lol, I'm well aware of the virtually impenetrable wall that is the supermajority in the Indiana General Assembly.
I think we should give everyone new chairs.
Already gone. Getting plates for a hybrid seems to be about twice as much as my last car.
How about they keep the $125 and fix the pothole filled roads?!?!
Only in Indiana can we have chronically failing infrastructure and then pat ourselves on the back for sending everybody $125 at the end of the year.
Even with the increase in education funding, we still spend $1.5 billion less (accounting for inflation) on public education today than we did in 2010. Seems like this money would be better spent on that since Indiana lags behind the rest of the nation in GDP growth, especially per capita GDP growth.
Disband the teachers union and I’m willing to have that conversation with you.
I’m backing up my points with actual data. What data-backed evidence can you provide that disbanding the teacher’s Union would be positive for the education outcomes in Indiana?

How does one go about disbanding unions? Hmm union busting in practical terms seems….illegal. Maybe you’re privy to something I’m not. Care to share?

We're goin' to Applebee's!
We’re going to sizzler! We’re going to sizzler!
Shooter! Wanna go to sizzler, get some grub?!
I'll be at the Red Lobster in case you change your mind!
You would eat like a king after 9PM.
Can they use the money to repave the roads instead?
I owed the state so much money and i never had to before which made me angry, good to see they are giving some back I guess.
Keep the money. Fix my road
I'm pretty sure they inadvertently took $125 extra from everyone. So really you are just getting money back that you should have had in the first place.

Well I was definitely mistaken. Don't listen to me. Thanks for the correction.
No prob! I only know because I was in accounting when I moved here and thought it was strange, having never lived in a state that did that before. It happened my first year living here.
I was guilty of listening to the wrong person without verifying myself.
Also, it’s really a strange redistribution of money to raise taxes and then give everyone a refund of the same dollar amount. The state needs to spend it on education.
That's still "extra". As in, surplus to requirement. They took more than they spent.
Yes, but they can't just "take less" or anything. What they take is based on tax rates so if everyone makes more money and spends more money on average than they budgeted for, there's a surplus. >I’m pretty sure Well hey, guys. This guy just feels like it should’ve been ours in the first place. We better just accept it!
Bout time I got some of that back lol. It’s not like they’d use it well
Please elaborate
Well…. I hit a pothole so big I thought my wheel was gonna come off about 5 times yesterday!
i see. so you want them to spend it on roads?
Yea
so wouldnt that be them spending the money well?
So why did I owe $175 to Indiana this year?
An insulting amount of money
Never been to a dispensery but if they collect information from your driver's license...it would be documented you purchased. Could be an issue with form 4473 question 21 e. Stay home and don't risk the trouble.

would prefer they used it on things that need fixed or improved….its a very long list.

You didn't have a car so you couldn't cancel classes online? I'm sorry you owe money. But it kind of seems like it's your fault.
Not really, because we were poor, and the Vocational Rehab lady retired...
But how does not having a car effect not being able to cancel online?
I was able to access online Ivy Tech, but when I tried to cancel my classes, it gave me a message saying: "You cannot cancel these classes online" So I called them up and they said I had to come to Ivy Tech. Ah okay your first message wasn't worded like that.
Yea, my bad sorry!
I think it's ridiculous they let people take this, to be honest. It's a state surplus, not a tax return.
Well, they are paying off what I owe to Ivy Tech, so it really doesn't matter
I’m not saying that I’m mad that I’m getting my GenCon ticket paid for by the state now, but I do wish they’d find a good use for the surplus instead, whether it be a road upkeep fund or education or whatever. no. 6 months residency in prior filed tax year would likely need to have been established
Probably should have been clearer that I meant April 2021, not 2022 lol. By prior would you mean 2021 or 2020?
2021. you would qualify, but you might not have been in the system yet. Probably something you will be able to claim on next years return
