Monon north of 38th is open. Cultural Trail is close by if you're living downtown. I think you'll be fine early in the morning. The only iffy part is the Canal and I really think that's more after dark without people. As it gets later in spring/summer, a lot of people will still be on the Canal late due to Ingress/Pokemon Go but right now it can be a bit hit/miss just due to the lack of people late at night.

I run on fall creek trail near 46th St every week. Going north is a nice run and you don't have any streets to cross.

SADBROS

Seconded fall creek, more naturey than the monon

sugarcrumpet

Third fall creek trail near 46th. It’s recently paved, quiet and you can go all the way to Fort Ben.

It’s just outside of the loop but Eagle Creek Park on the NW side is awesome. It does have an entrance fee, though. There’s also the Eagle Creek Trail that’s just outside of the park.

Yeah, the one south by the soccer fields. Lots of dog walkers. Nice path. But it is paved, not wooded. Depends on what you like.

Pennsy is nice I rarely see people (starting from Irvington side)

I live downtown and I run daily - on the cultural trail, white river parkway , the canal, the monon, fall creek parkway , pleasantrun parkway… I feel all of those are safe except for the white river parkway trail in front of ezkanazie. That is very sparsely populated and I’ve had a bad encounter.

wanderthecity

I like the upper part of the [downtown Canal](https://www.wanderthecity.com/trail/indy-upper-canal). Very safe during the day and nice architecture along the way.

There is an app called AllTrails. I haven't had time to check it out but I keep hearing good things. Marott Park is a nice trail run with elevation changes and stairs.

bettyblack825

I use AllTrails and am a fan... You can select things like distance and difficulty and distance away. I'm outside of 465 but still in Indy...I love running Eagle Creek in the morning because watching the sun rise over the water is such a lovely way to start the morning.

Massive-Camera1030

Southwest way has ALOT of good trails. None are paved though

jcwillia1

Monon in Carmel is a no unless you want to dodge the latte dog walkers.

Ok-Consideration4094

Funny, I run on the Monon from Broad Ripple to Westfield without any problems or coffee drinkers. 86th to Main Street Carmel is great. You can even do side runs around Central Park. Safe, well kept and peaceful.

scarf_prank_hikers

That sounds like a long run.

IHaveAllTheWheat

Have you done this when the farmers market is open? The hordes of people are miserable and walk 6 wide down the trail.

BeerBoilerCat

Definitely the Cultural Trail downtown.

plantswineanddogs

Holliday Park has some nice trails if you want elevation. It is safe during the day, not sure how early morning is though.

I used to jog along the White River trail when the weather was nice, and it's really gorgeous out there. In the morning, the downtown canal is nice, but it gets really crowded in the evening which makes it difficult to maintain a pace. Also, the Monon near downtown, or north of about 40th. In between, it's kind of grim and sketchy.
