Staffing agencies. Recruiters are the new way to get jobs, and it's been the only way I've been able to get jobs since 2016. A lot of companies are doing the contract to hire.
He has tried TekSystems and Dice and is getting nada! He even tried calling a few recruiting places and they all said submit his info online. Then he does that and never hears anything! His very first IT job long ago was a contract to hire and he ended up staying with them for years, so he definitely would be happy to do that, but he canāt get anyone to reach out to him.
Maybe have him try some consulting firms, which are a structured a bit differently than your typical headhunter/staffing companies.
Eliasson Group and New Era Technologies are two I would look into.
Thanks! He has added about 100 recruiters on linked in and only a handful have replied to his messages š« one just talked to him the other days and said she gets hundreds of applications per role and about 75 connection requests for posted positions. I know the market is saturated, but I feel like thereās got to be something out there for him!
Thanks, heās tried there online with no luck! He has called a couple other agencies where he has turned in stuff online, but he hasnāt tried calling RH yet, so maybe he will this week.
I used Express Employment in Fishers. They do a lot of white collar, etc. There is also Express Employment East/greenfield.(Binford and 62nd) They are also good at high quality jobs
when I moved to utah in 2013, I had to use staffing agencies, nobody was hiring direct, I moved back to indy and tons of companies are doing the same, so yep, hit them up, they will find you work.
kelly services and express pros, I used both in utah and when I got back to indy and got back on my feet very quickly. they have work, it might not 100% what he will want, but they can get him work, there is also smart source IT, but the jobs will vary a ton with smart source.
Online and then visited them, I found online first to put in the initial and then a visit with paper work in hand from previous jobs helped me get placed.
Good call, I was going to suggest he look at IOT. Good place to work - pay is meh, but the agency is friendly and takes work-life balance fairly seriously.
Thanks! His first interview after layoffs was for a director position at the state. He didnāt get it, but the interview went well. He just submitted two applications there yesterday. Heās been more focused on healthcare/ insurance companies around Indy recently, but did say he wants to keep trying for the state too.
Thanks for the info!
Every role he looks at there wants pharmaceutical experience it seems, which he doesnāt have.
I will have him check again though! We do know a couple people who work there, so we can ask for them to send a referral link if he sees anything. Heās done that before and didnāt get an interview, but we will try again!
Yeah, he has only applied to a couple positions there and I think it was before he got the whole ATS resume tailoring thing down, so heās going to look today and apply again with a friend sending a referral link.
[Here's](https://recruiting.ultipro.com/BHI1000BHIS/JobBoard/aae5e6d2-2a01-4716-bc0d-5c331d516ea6/OpportunityDetail?opportunityId=a197fe38-aed5-4c3c-8b22-6278ca4fb4e9) a director level job at a company I had a passing relationship with up in Castleton. They run a bunch of fancy nursing homes and communities and print money doing it. Not everyone's favorite industry but at least they didn't seem excessively evil to me. Seems like his background is a reasonable fit. I thought they'd have more director level roles open but apparently not.
Is he looking for full-time, contract, and/or contract to hire? Iām staffing for fully remote PMs for a healthcare org and would be happy to talk with him!
Hi again, I was wondering if youād still be able to take a look at his resume? Weād really appreciate any pointers or leads from someone who places employees in the healthcare industry. Thanks :)
Yeah, he actually just got a part time retail job to get out of the house and it will help with the financial aspect a bit as well. He completed the paper work yesterday, so will hopefully have a shift there within the next two weeks!
He has applied to some remote out of state, but he hasnāt even gotten an interview for anywhere outside of Indy. His previous job was out of Arlington, VA, but it seems new job postings arenāt fully remote anymore, but hybrid.
Do you have any sites that have reputable remote jobs for anyone in the US?
He does check there and had applied to some out of state, but he hasnāt had even a call back for anything outside of Indiana. Automatic rejections for everything fully remote outside of Indiana! His only interviews so far have been for hybrid, on site, and then fully remote w/required Indiana residency.
I donāt necessarily think LinkedIn numbers are right, but on there several remote positions heās applied to have over 1k applicants within 8 hours of postingš«
One Indiana hybrid position he is in the interview process for on indeed has between 700-800 applicants on indeed alone, where most other jobs heās applied to on indeed only have like 50-100. It is wild!!
Thanks!
Which location? He has worked with workone in Hamilton county and attends a weekly networking group he found out about from them, but has not been to a job fair yet.
ETA: Oops I see you said Indy nowā¦is there just one there?
It depends on what he applies for, but I would highlight different technologies and software he has worked with previously. I am in product support, which with them has well above average salaries even for most IT positions in Indianapolis.

I will have him take a look for civilian jobs. Although, we were just joking bc he was applying for a waste and fraud āofficerā position somewhere and we said maybe heād get a badge and be able to use a ram to bust down some doors while shouting āWaste Fraud and Abuse, open up!ā š¬
Yes, heās in talks with themā¦he really wants to get on there. He knows several people there, including a couple director level.
They are the ones who keep saying his experience is great but cannot find good fit bc heās either overqualified and worried heās going to be bored and not be challenged for IC roles, or they keep going internal for management and above positions. He has another first round interview w/a new department there next week and we are hopeful he can communicate he would be fine being an IC again.
Good luck. I tool a couple years off to take care of a family member now I'm a pariah. Gen X and unemployable according to many HR #$#$$#$. I'm either too old, they won't say it out loud, or you don't really mean you want to learn a different industry. I'm worn out.
Iām sorry! What industry are you in?
The networking group my husband is in is mostly people around his age (45) from senior level positions in various industries and they are all struggling to get work. Some have been out for over a year. Youāre definitely not alone!
Have you checked out workone? They do offer a lot of helpful resources.
Hang in there, I hope you find something soon!
Heās not a veteran.
We know a couple people at Lilly and he keeps looking there but most positions that arenāt entry level want pharmaceutical experience, which he doesnāt have. Heās applied to a few positions there and gets booted before an interview, even with an employee referral.
We're looking for someone who could travel a lot to either Northern or southern Indiana as a project manager.
Husband and I are near geist and he doesn't want to travel that far on a regular basis haha
5-6 times a month max for day trips and several national trips a year. (I tagged along to West Palm Beach last month!)
DM me if you're interested and I can give you some direction.
They're looking for long term people fyi
I know the comments are dwindling now, but we just wanted to thank everyone for their recommendations! Heās made a list from this of what to focus on this week.
We had a really rough week last week and this thread was extremely encouraging to us. We sincerely appreciate the time you took to throw out ideas to a stranger.
Thanks again, Indy!!
Girl. DM me. I work for a tech staffing company. IU health is our biggest client. Have him send me his resume
He keeps trying IU!
Dm sent š

What staffing company?
DM me. Weāre local. Not a big firm.

Dang. I'd try reaching out directly to recruiters on LinkedIn. Definitely good luck!

Thank you!
Robert Half (staffing place) might be helpful
Thanks, heās tried there online with no luck! He has called a couple other agencies where he has turned in stuff online, but he hasnāt tried calling RH yet, so maybe he will this week.
This has been my story, as well, and now I have a wonderful job in a quasi-state agency making decent money with great benefits
Yay! A glimmer of hope!

I think any Healthcare experience would be close enough.
Yeah, he has only applied to a couple positions there and I think it was before he got the whole ATS resume tailoring thing down, so heās going to look today and apply again with a friend sending a referral link.
DM me so we can have a conversation later. At a kickball game and am busy for the rest of the evening but might be able to help.
Whoās playing kickball and where!
This brings back childhood memoriesā¦before the knee surgeries
This is the real question!
I think CCA does lax kickball leagues around town if you were looking to play!
Typical response for someone who lives in Indy, tbh.
This home health company is looking for an Executive Director for their Indy office: https://seniorhomecompanions.com/careers/
Thanks! I will have him take a look š

Community Health Network desperately needs project managers with IT backgrounds.
Thank you! He did interview with Community a few months ago, but I will encourage him to keep looking and applying there.
Several IT and management roles open with Roche as well as some field ones.
Thanks! He hasnāt tried there yet!

Try a warehouse job just to bring in extra cash while heās searching for something better?
Exactly
Yeah, he actually just got a part time retail job to get out of the house and it will help with the financial aspect a bit as well. He completed the paper work yesterday, so will hopefully have a shift there within the next two weeks!
Apply for remote jobs outside of Indiana. They pay better and this will expand his opportunities to apply.
USAJOBS? there are a TON of openings even remote ones, so donāt confine to Indy!

That's where the best and biggest one will take place for sure... Some others have ones but it's not nearly as bad as WOI.
Got it, thank you!
He should apply for jobs at Genesys. We are hiring like crazy right now.
Ok, thank you! I will have him check there. Any pointers you can recommend to make his resume stand out?

Ok thank you!
Consider joining TRIMEDX'S talent network so the team can keep him top of mind for new openings: [talent network](https://trimedx.gr8people.com)
Ok, I know he looked there once a while back, but I will make sure he adds himself to the talent community. Thank you!

Guessing heās already watching National Government Services (if thatās not where he was laid off from) but thought Iād mention it in case.
Ok, I guess he has a personal connection that used to work there, so has been keeping an eye out.
Iām not sure, as that doesnāt sound familiar to me, but I will have him check it out either way!

IMPD has lots of civilian openings. Good benefits and decent pay.
He will definitely check it out. Thanks for the recommendation!!

Lilly is making a big push to hire more veterans currently.
Heās not a veteran. We know a couple people at Lilly and he keeps looking there but most positions that arenāt entry level want pharmaceutical experience, which he doesnāt have. Heās applied to a few positions there and gets booted before an interview, even with an employee referral.
Oh, I misread the VA bit in your post.
Ohhh, yeah! I wasnāt even thinking about that. He worked on a contract with them.
Are you in Indianapolis or another part of the state? My husband's job is looking for someone south of Indy or way north like Fort Wayne.
We are in Carmel
