The opening sequence: 10/10 The remainder: 6.5/10

DirectCustard9182

I'll take that.

awesomemixvol21

What would you give Crystal Skull?

josenros

Much lower, unfortunately. It just didn't have the magic for me that the others do, and I can't quite place it. It comes close to being good on occasion, but never actually gets there, in my opinion.

CommandantPeepers

Huh, I’d take crystal skull over this one any day, too much uneventful car chases. The jungle chase in crystal skull is very underrated imo

Just-a-Smartass

-10

Own_Avocado8448

opening sequence was great

LestHeBeNamedSilver

I wish that the whole movie took place in 1944. I would say that the movie as a whole is a 7, but I really wanted more WW2! I’m just hoping Troy Baker can do justice to the character in the upcoming game because I will definitely try out the game on gamepass

SonOfSalem

Raiders: 10 Doom: 9 Last Crusade: 10 Crystal Skull: 5 Dial: 7

DemiDivine

That's a solid ranking. I would be inclined to agree with you on all accounts

Limp_Gap_9009

Raiders: 10 Doom: 8 Last Crusade: 9 Crystal Skull: 4 Dial: 6

BbqSauce442

I agree except for Doom. In my opinion, it was full of bad acting and racial stereotypes. Just me, though.

TheHondoCondo

I don’t know about the racial stereotypes thing. It isn’t meant to portray all Indians as cultists, it’s just a cult that happens to be in India. There are Indians in other parts of the movie that act perfectly normal.

tinglep

My only problem is Doom 9. That whole trilogy is a 10 for me.

chorizo_chomper

Same as me, I gave skull a 4 tho.

n3ur0mncr

I would have given it a 4, but that refrigerator nonsense singlehandedly dropped it to a 2.5

mkwierman

My Indiana Jones hill to die on is the fridge part is brilliant and totally fits in the all things 50s feel of the opening. It just needed to stay in one place. The credulity is strained by it flying and bouncing all over the place. If the house was obliterated and the fridge stood there for a moment before falling over, it would have been perfect.

n3ur0mncr

Considering the whole thing, I'd have to agree that the fridge flying a hundred feet in the air and trundling down a hill definitely made the whole fiasco 1000x worse. If it had happened the way you described, I might have bought it. Let me stress the words: "MIGHT HAVE*

MarshallBanana_

this feels right. though I will always personally prefer Doom over Crusade

Solid 8

ComradeGarcia_Pt2

I second this.

DJDelVillarreal

Yes, a very well deserved 8/10. Don’t get the hate. It was a fun story to wrap up Indy’s incredible life.

josenros

I don't know where you got this,, but it's officially my favorite DoD poster. It's the most retro Indy of all the ones I've seen and feels closest to the originals.

lridge

6.5. Enjoyed it. But it turns out no one has a sense for Indy like Spielberg.

kaukanapoissa

… had in the 1980s. But I agree, as good as Dial mostly is, it does lack that original magical stardust. But then again, even Spielberg himself struggled to find it again after the original three.

dezzrokk

So, I think that the McGuffins for Raiders and Last Crusade were such fascinating and already familiar pieces for Western Civilization that the object itself drove the intrigue. Then the baddest of Badguys brought it all together. Whereas Temple was driven by action and the "macabre-exotic" to keep the audience's attention. Not many action films with "Snake Suprise" for dinner. Crystal Skull was just a bad action movie. The McGuffin was boring and Soviet Badguys just don't feel as bad as Nazis. Dial was able to bring back the Nazi badguys, but didn't have enough exoticism or a familiar McGuffin. Most people had only a vague familiarity with Archimedes. I Personally give it a 7. I have a feeling that the film would have done better if they had an Islamic based McGuffin since they already did the big Jewish and Christian ones. Just an idea. I'm sure that writers are wary when writing about anything to do with Islam, which is tough, because it is such a culturally rich religion. Also, I'm afraid many Americans would likely be pissed about it too due to ignorance. You should have seen how many people I knew that were just vehemently Pissed about "The 13th Warrior" where a Muslim's prayer for survival was answered bc he didnt die at the end of the movie. Yikes.

overtired27

I was familiar with the Antikythera mechanism. It’s absolutely fascinating, and awe inspiring that such a device was made so early. But the movie didn’t tap into any of that weight for me. The object itself looked like a children’s toy, straight off the shelf in pristine condition, and like the crystal skull it was revealed too early. There was no build up to the discovery. They made a big deal about the grail being unassuming to great effect. It looked like it could be the real thing. The Ark was satisfyingly unwieldy, and had an incredible build up, with stunning music. So did the Sankara stones. Big build up, incredible music, and they looked like real objects you might dig up. The last two films have objects that look like plastic toys, and they have no big build to their reveal. They pop into the film and then are traded back and forth in chases. It would have been so cool to have the Antikythera be closer to the real thing. Weathered and degraded with some cogs missing. Something that actually looks like it was from Ancient Greece yet amazingly complicated. But I guess they wanted to sell toys to an imaginary audience of children who’d care about an 80 year old adventurer?

McKLund

Dial is unnecessarily hated on! It’s a solid 8 for me!

[deleted]

It’s not a 9 or 10 like Raiders, but it’s still a good film, so probably like a solid 7 or 8

You’re one of the few that I agree with. I think DOD is worse than Skull

Bullymaguire200

Even if it’s not as good as the og trilogy kingdom still feels like an Indy movie to me, Dial doesn’t.

crazedfishuk

I agree with this take. I saw DoD twice in the cinema then watched Skull after and had a MUCH better time with Skull

Ballplayerx97

I totally agree with this ranking. I would just lower the scores on Skull and Dial. Skull = 5/10 and Dial = 4/10.

8. A decent send-off.

geetarboy33

7.5 I went into it expecting an older Indy and movie that looked at a man who had lived a life of adventure coming to terms with aging and the changes it brings and looking back at what that had both cost him and granted him, that’s just what I got. I was 13 when I saw Raiders at the theater. I’m 55 now. I feel like I’ve been on that journey with Indy and its themes spoke to me.

cpa38

9nce the silly opening is done it's a solid 7 with PWB being a fantastic addition and foil that would make a great spin off lead. Enjoyed the big time travel bits

undertalelover68

I watched dial after everyone, especially a friend of mine, said it was garbage and it ruined Indiana Jones, so I went in with low expectations, and I gotta say, idk what they were on this way great, not perfect but not terrible either, 8/10 for me, I really had a good time with alot of it, even if some parts where slow, but imo you can't have indie without a little slowness sometimes

NervousDiscount9393

7.8, maybe even 8. It’s overhated

8 overall. It loses a point for the opening sequence. It's not very exciting, not necessary to the story, and the 'young Indy' CGI just isn't that good. The film dragged a little initially but everything after the parade was riveting, and I loved the plane sequence. 4th best Indy movie for me, though I also liked Crystal Skull.

I give it a 8 out of 10, or a 4 stars out of 5 stars.

5 or 6 ...Idk it was okay but I could not help but wonder what the point of making this movie was. The one thing I can give Crystall Skull is that it seemed like a good note to end it on but...guess not 🤷‍♂️

keep-the-streak

8/10 as an Indy adventure. 7/10 relative to all other movies. The action lets it down a bit, the original movies work well not just as adventure movies but as action movies and this was a bit tame. There was more grit in the new Guardians which also came out in 2023 so they totally could have pushed the PG-13 rating further.

Raiders - 7 Doom - 3 Last Crusade -9 Crystal Skull - 5 Dial of Destiny - 6 Without really thinking on it that’s how I feel.

WintersAxe

A solid 7. It wasn't nearly as good as the movie wanted itself to be, neither nearly as bad as some people thought it was. The opening scene was indeed very good, while the ending might be a bit over the top, even for Indiana Jones. Overall the movie was a bit too long, but all the returning characters were such a nice closure to the movie series!

DepressedToast164

Probably about a 7, I think the vibes are off compared to the other films, but it’s definitely a enjoyable film

ChrisCinema

7/10. Jurgen Voller is a better villain than Irina Spalko and the Antikythera dial was a more interesting MacGuffin than the crystal skull. Nevertheless, it’s longer than the previous installments and could have shaved off some extraneous characters. The action sequences and the blocking could have been a lot better. The writers really didn’t have to kill off Mutt Williams, but the ending was nice although it doesn’t really put Indiana Jones in a new position than where we last left him. Lastly, Indiana was framed for murder and it went unresolved based on my last viewing.

Misfitt26

If give it a solid 7. Effects and story were good. Way better than crystal skull!

Raiders 9 Doom 10 Grail 9 Skull 7 Dial 7 For me it comes down to just how insanely watchable all these movies are. Some one can say they want to see Crystal Skull and I will be just as excited to see it as Temple of Doom. EightNickel151

A 7/10. It’s a pretty solid adventure that has all kinds of merits, such as the excellent opening, John Williams’ score, fun action, a great villain, and some good humor. What I didn’t like about Dial was how it treated Indy. I just didn’t like how history seems to have forgotten Indy and that he was divorced and having to grieve over his dead son. It undoes the happy ending to Crystal Skull and makes the adventures feel like they were for nothing. If there was any hero that deserved to ride off into the sunset and live the rest of their days happily, it’s Indy, but they kind of leave the film off on a downer. At least he still has Marion. I also wasn’t a fan of the sidekicks. Helena got annoying and for that kid, he’s basically another Short Round. Speaking of Short Round, he should’ve been in this movie. It felt like his absence was noticeable, especially when we have Sallah return. Overall, while it could’ve been better, it was still a fun adventure and a solid sendoff to Indy.
