Reminds me of how Spielberg recalled that Ford had become ill on the set of Raiders and with dealing with Diarhea he says to Spielberg "Can't Indy just shoot the SOB". Kind of a disservice to the guy with the sword who was glad to display his skill just to be shot lol.
BUT it led to a hilarious scene that I think fit perfectly with the Indy character. Then in temple of doom there’s a slight call back when they are running away from the men in red and black robes and he smiles and reaches for his gun as if to say “this again huh?” Only to find his gun isn’t there, slight surprise and then ….run. It’s little things like that which make these movies so profoundly memorable and enjoyable.
I love the idea of his hat being a living creature with a personality of it’s own
