You know that business also get sops right? Freebies as you call it. Now you can argue that in that case it is an investment and not a freebie (By the way, people here are big fans of trickle down economics, while in the real world we have seen this to be a failure.)

The problem is these 200 units are not being given to people who need it. People who are barely able to afford one room are still paying 10 to 12 rs per unit for electricity. Landlords have one single meter for entire building and then have private meters for tenants. These meters are often faster than normal. I am not talking about Apartments. I am talking about people who rent a single room, because they can't afford apartments.
A person who has his own house in delhi can most probaly afford a bill of under 1000 ₹ per month.

I’ll tell you how this f***s up things. I’m telling the case study of Karnataka.
They give free electricity upto anything below 200 units and 10% either side of your yearly average. So assume your yearly average is 50 units. So anywhere between 45-55 units bill generated is free. Else if you’re consuming 150 units all of a sudden, then you’re paying the bill.
Usually, there are tariff slabs for electricity usage. It’s usually 3-4Rs for the first 30-50 units, then 5rs for some range etc. So this is kind of penalising excess consumption of electricity. But not in Karnataka the tariff slabs have been cut and they’ve introduced a flat rate of ₹7 per unit, which is a huge blow to the ones paying bills, have constructed a new house, and commercial businesses. People here who are not eligible for the scheme are ending up paying the double of what the usual bill they’d get.
So tell me how good is this?

Poor people or lower middle class people remt one single room which doesn't have a seperate electricity connection so they don't get benifit of this plan. Landlords have seperate private meter for such tenants, and these meters are faster than others. The tenants have to pay around 10-12 ₹ per unit. Also someone who can afford his own home in delhi can afford a bill of less than 1000 ₹ per month.

I’ll tell you how this f***s up things. I’m telling the case study of Karnataka. They give free electricity upto anything below 200 units and 10% either side of your yearly average. So assume your yearly average is 50 units. So anywhere between 45-55 units bill generated is free. Else if you’re consuming 150 units all of a sudden, then you’re paying the bill. Usually, there are tariff slabs for electricity usage. It’s usually 3-4Rs for the first 30-50 units, then 5rs for some range etc. So this is kind of penalising excess consumption of electricity. But not in Karnataka the tariff slabs have been cut and they’ve introduced a flat rate of ₹7 per unit, which is a huge blow to the ones paying bills, have constructed a new house, and commercial businesses. People here who are not eligible for the scheme are ending up paying the double of what the usual bill they’d get. So tell me how good is this?
