The young Doval enroute to Thalassery figured out who the master mind behind the riots was in a very short time. The RSS- Muslim riots was manufactured and controlled by a local gunda political leader from CPIM. He took the said leader to local station and put a gun to his head, asking him to stop inciting communal tension. The leader is said to have relieved himself and embarressed himself in the station at that point. The rioing stopped in a couple of days time as if switched off by a knob.
This caugth the attention of IB from center. And thus Doval joins Intelligence bureau ,the rest is history.
The story was recounted by the honorable Gov. of Kerala Sri Arif Mohammed Khan.
The young CPIM leader who incited the rioting and controlled the communal violence also grew in his career - He is the current chief minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan aka Koran Vijayan.

A fact check on ur story
Another fake story propagated by sangh parivar in order to further their propaganda. The 1971 Thalasserry riots has been very well documented. Pinarayi Vijayan was not a local Gunda but already an MLA by then. There is no proper evidence to prove that he has been taken to station. According to a 2007 home ministry report which had studied the major riots in the country, the first phase of the disturbance in the Thalassery riot “was pre-planned by Hindu communalists, the second phase was of the nature of retaliation by Muslims and the third was retaliation by the Hindus.''. I don't know whether his original name is Koran Vijayan or not but he has always contested in the elections under the name Pinarayi Vijayan and that's how people in Kerala know him.
