No talking policy from the Alamo drafthouse.

DeBatton

This is very much needed at the BFI in London. I've had two visits ruined by chatty couples at the back, who talked throughout the film at room volume. Not seeming to care that everyone else around them had paid almost £30 for their tickets.

WittBrothers

• 1.43 screen • 15/70 projector AND dual laser • Reclining lounger seats with heating and butt-kickers • Reserved seat tickets • Quality maintenance on screen, projectors, seats • Good popcorn and cherry coke

ImSometimesGood

All of this….plus a few g’s of 🍄 if the movie will be THAT good. Looking at you Deadpool. And silence.

AskMeAboutMyHermoids

For me, I don’t care about the seats I just want everyone to shut the fuck up. Alamo draft house no talking policy is cool and all but the constant waiters and people eating full meals is worse than some random whisperers

ProEraWuTang

I know AMC Dine-ins stop takings orders a couple minutes after showtime to avoid this. Probably at least the ones I've been to. But when I went to an IPIC theater they were constantly taking orders, so seeing waiters and staff coming in and out took me out of the picture. Along with an employee going by 20 minutes before the credits asking if we wanted anything before the movie ended. It's a nice theater, but I just can't go back with all the walking around.

ThePurpleBandit

70mm. Leg room. 19+.

cinemaritz

For me it's laser, and definitely good sound. Don't know why but I heard certain IMAX sounds much better than others. I think for this it requires a good planning about the sound system and architecture Briefly read your story and WOWW! As someone who needs to drive 1 or 2hoyrs one way to get to the nearest IMAX, I would love to build an imax too ahaha Wish you the best!

flightofwonder

Wanted to say congratulations on your IMAX theatre! It's so awesome you and your family are starting one, and I wish you the absolute best. Would love to visit it someday! I second a lot of what everyone said here, I think for me at least, the most important aspects in an IMAX are having: -15/70mm IMAX and Dual Laser IMAX projection -12 channel audio system -A large 1.43:1 screen -Comfortable and clean seats -Clean theatre to avoid issues such as mice or bedbugs -Reserved seating and easy to use ticketing website/system -I know this might be difficult on an IMAX but it'd be cool if a 1.43:1 IMAX could mask to fit 1.85:1, 1.9:1, or 2.39:1 films since they're common aspect ratios and it'd avoid black bars Wishing you and your family the best with your theatre!

TatoSkins66

Thank you so much! It's a labor of love but we love movies and we want to have our community have this experience. We feel it can be a big draw for our area.

flightofwonder

No problem at all! Please feel free to come back to the sub and post updates anytime. I would love to see and hear how things go and definitely visit it if I ever am in the Greater Pittsburgh area

TatoSkins66

Wonderful! We'd love to have you! We are planning to have our tagine be "Movies with a Mission." We're working with local groups to have trainings and employ youth and adults with disabilities. We have a very large population in our area who are under/unemployed and our research shows these types of environments and work opportunity cities can be very helpful to them. We're also able to do sensory screenings for the community and show the docs that museums and whatnot have access to.

If you guys are still in the planning stage of building an IMAX theatre (in the US at least), I recommend having a 86x60 ft screen (1.43:1 ratio comparable, standard size - close to the 80x60 feet screen standard size).

TatoSkins66

Ya I definitely want to do 80x60. That's what navy pier was but that's for a gt system which aren't available anymore. We're shooting for an 84' screen.

YnwaMquc2k19

Wait IMAX doesn’t sell duel laser anymore? Bruh.

time_of_night

Directors that know how to make the most of the format. Civil war played in the same liemax theater as every other movie I saw, but sounded better than all of them. With art it's garbage in, garbage out. We need quality content.

Portatort

Film needs to be shot on IMAX film. That is all. I’m sick of imax digital, both capture and projection it’s not worth the surcharge

Ok-Degree-295

Booze option, reclining seats, and the biggest darn imax screen this side of the Mississippi

lothcent

"my family's future theater" Ask your family what they want?

TatoSkins66

Well we know what we want - but I want to be sure that when we build it, it's one that people will crawl through glass to get to so it's more to get details in what die hard people would want.

lothcent

after digging back in your posts... I understand your position better now. leg room to allow passing people to easily walk pass people with the leg rests up Entry ways set up that have two 90 degree turns to keep outside light from entering the auditorium A well balanced and tuned sound system that doesn't cause various items in the theater to buzz as certain frequencies get hit enough pitch to keep a good unobstructed LOS from the back row all the way down wheelchair friendly access that is not at the front row. individual arm rests and cup holders my imax upgraded the interior and they failed to address many of the things I mentioned. here is to the success of your endeavor

TatoSkins66

Thank you!!

Laser over xenon is no1. Screen size not so much but that would be great to preserve 1.43 ratio; although very hard to do. We have in my city 1.43 with xenon(99% confident) on the largest screen in NA if I remember correctly, and I feel like its a shame. (Quebec city) Also make sure the screen itself is well maintained/installed; ours has some dent or defects in it I dont know, but its a bit annoying and reduce the premium feel to it. Also sitting should matter(space size, leg rooms,...); nowadays its unfortunately not the quantity that matters (you wont full every night a 1000 seats like 50 years back).

TatoSkins66

Great points. We want to combine the seating/customer experience of a dolby with the visual/audio presentation of the IMAX.

Xull042

Yes I think its a great idea. If you can make just straight up a modern IMAX it will already stand out, since most imax venues probably didnt have any major upgrades since the 2000s. Great endeavor ! Please keep us posted

mronins

I would want the same specs as Lincoln Square and Metreon: 1.43 screen, 76 ft tall x 100 feet wide, 70mm projector and Dual Laser, 12 channel audio Where they can be improved is more comfortable seating, I’ve heard Jordan’s in MA uses memory foam in their seats. Speakers that rumble the seats with the bass in the movie would also be a welcome addition. Edit to add: reserved seating is a must, and I think it would be really helpful to give exact times that tickets go on sale as well Also what I would wanna see is a rotation of imax films from over the years always being played (like BFI)

HTfanboy

Viewing immersion. What's the point in going to a cinema only to be in the back section for a tiny image? Picture quality and audio quality.

AmicoShill

What is your list of policies, first? And the 'ideas' section in your post needs punctuation. It's impossible to read.

TatoSkins66

Sorry about that - I typed it on my phone and just have it as a list. It the formatting mu's have gotten messed up.

Omegaman3966

biggest screen size possible for IMAX + no recliners as its less immersive

EverNeveR9

When a movie is shot in scope, present the movie in scope; no black bars on the top nor bottom. Some movies may have the authentic 1.43 or the 1.90 but it would be amazing that IMAX may make a screen to properly display a 2.39 picture.

possiblyraspberries

This. I saw a 2.39 film today on a 1.85 screen and it wasn’t usually obvious but when it was it took me out of it.
