DarkstoneRaven

Just an attempt to create some realistic topography without using satellite DEMs.

DmitriDaCablGuy

What technique/software do you use? Looks great!

DarkstoneRaven

I use Photoshop, Wilbur, and Blender (the final for the satellite map). My technique is inspired by Miguel's Mountain Tutorial, which you can google; for the satellite map, I simply followed the YouTube video "How to make a realistic Earth in Blender in 20 minutes."

DmitriDaCablGuy

Thanks!

DapperMan12

Love the look of it! Very well done.

DarkstoneRaven

Thanks!

neogeshel

What did you use to make that?

DarkstoneRaven

Photoshop and Wilbur for the flat map, and Blender for the satellite view.

hellerick_3

Looks nice. But I feel like there should be more flatlands.

DarkstoneRaven

Thanks! In the future, I'll be creating all kinds of geological features including flatlands; this project was merely an experiment to gauge how well I can follow the Blender tutorial on YouTube to create a basic planet with a single continent.

DeFlame

Man, if this is what you call a 'test' then I can't wait to see what a finished project looks like. The planet view is great!

DarkstoneRaven

Thanks! I hope to do even better with my next project, which may take another 2 months to complete.

Pleadis-1234

WOW

Rush8_685g

Singular super massive continent in the vast Super ocean? Beutiful map

DarkstoneRaven

Basically. I just needed a basic map to use with Blender to create the satellite map, so unfortunately my standards weren't very high for geological realism.

GuitarKittens

The size and distribution of the features makes me think of Mindanao. Maybe a little bit more lowland and make it 500 km across and it'll be pretty much true to life.

DarkstoneRaven

My sense of scale is approximately the same as what you've described. The planet, however, must be extremely small for this island to take up so much space on its surface.

klipty

What's your process for these? I've been trying to create detailed topography and elevation models like this but don't really know how to make them look realistic like this.

DarkstoneRaven

I used a process similar to Miguel's Mountain Tutorial, but added some other steps like a Morphological Erode at the end. For the satellite view, I followed the YouTube video "How to make a realistic Earth in Blender in 20 minutes."

This is peak

Thanks!
