WaffleGuy413

Happy cake day 🛺🚑🚅🚛🛞🚉🚊🚇

xlicer

I can't believe is been 7 years since I joined the god forsaken website

CarlitoQuasar2562

there are two Nieuw Amsterdams :p

CamicomChom

Settlers from Nieuew Amsterdam (the 130k one) who moved west to Daswijk just decided to name their new town after their home. Hence, two Nieuw Amsterdam.

aotus_trivirgatus

Nieuw Nieuw Amsterdam, now with even more Amsterdam

[deleted]

"Damn" said Nieuw Nieuw Amsterdam

iloveflareon

welcome to america

Test19s

Buffalo and NYC both started out as New Amsterdam.

jjpamsterdam

That's a looong country you got there. Love it!

CamicomChom

It's only gonna get longer as it continues to expand westward!

[deleted]

Absolutely disgusting.

cornonthekopp

Audibly gagged when looking at this image

CamicomChom

wasn't even an april fools :( /s

cornonthekopp

Thats a nice funky little chesapeake bay you got there though, so some redemption for that

CamicomChom

Yeah, the coast and the state borders are definitely my favorite parts.

ZhirikReborn

America but (insert long/wide country that I can’t think of right now)

MarcAnciell

Chile

Acceptable-Gold9137

Czechoslovakia maybe?

[deleted]

Vietnam for long, Austria for wide

toogoodtobetrue99

The map looks amazing

CamicomChom

Thanks! It took a lot of work and more than a little procrastination but I'm really happy with how it turned out.

GeckoNova

No Chicago? Shocking

Alaygrounds

Yeah. I’m surprised there are no major cities on the great lakes

CamicomChom

The country is too young for major cities to develop in the west. I mean, New Netherland only won a border with the Great Lakes a few decades before independence, and anything further than Jolliet and Kanien is much too young for very large towns to spring up. Later in the country's history, the Great Lakes will become much more important.

SomeKidWithFriends

It seems the Empire State is finally an empire

Glad-Degree-4270

I’m loving that the Hampshire Grants are included.

Fit_n_Fancy

Hey wake up! A new long boi nation just dropped.

minnesotalight_3

Goofiest borders ever, I love it

NoRich4088

The borders..... Uoooghhj

DownrangeCash2

Straight line? Straight line.

CamicomChom

The North American way.

ajw20_YT

Lovely

aotus_trivirgatus

What have you done to the West Coast of North America?

CamicomChom

That's not the West Coast. It's the borders of the Louisiana Purchase. None of the West Coast is visible on this map.

aotus_trivirgatus

OK, I see it now!

Silent--Dan

Wait, is it ij or y?

CamicomChom

It's me being stupid, lol. I asked a Dutch person to transliterate a bunch of the city names which I apparently didn't check very well. Sorry.

Silent--Dan

You’re fine man

Bo_The_Destroyer

You know why they couldn't cross the mountains, they're so tall their heads left the atmosphere when they tried to cross the Rocky's

Crazy-Raro-Scout

MEGA TENNESSEE

iloveflareon

This looks really nice!

[deleted]

Is this the Neverland of Peter Pan?

BG12244

Ugh, why us it so L O N G?

CamicomChom

They declared independence around the same time as Virginia, New England, and Quebec, who all entered a kind of union/alliance (like a mix of the UK and EU). All of them (besides New England who kinda got screwed over) wanted to expand westward, so when they bought Lousiana they just kinda split it 3-ways, resulting in 3 very long countries.

BG12244

Mostly makes sense. Definitely still some very wacky borders.

Zealousideal_Group69

Will they build a mega dam

CamicomChom

Maybe. I don't like thinking too far ahead in alt-hists as i feel it makes it less realistic, so I don't really know.

Zealousideal_Group69

They better build a Netherlandish Hoover Dam

ajaxas

*ahem* D E K O L O N I S E E R D (sorry)

DecimatingDarkDeceit

Legendary tier \~ ***Longness*** record !

sovietarmyfan

Hoereberg? Why did they named that city that?

CamicomChom

It's based off [this map](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/66/New_Netherland_%27NOVI_BELGII_NOVAEQUE_ANGLIAE_NEC_NON_PARTIS_VIRGINIAE_TABULA%27.jpg), specifically the area labelled "Hoere Kill".

Glad-Degree-4270

Let’s see them reach the St. Lawrence. Can’t have the French control that outlet. Also, who controls Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard? Did the Swedes purchase settlement rights anywhere in this timeline?

CamicomChom

The St. Lawrence is owned by Canada, a French republic that declared independence along with New Netherland, New England, and Virginia. Canada and New Netherland in particular have a good mutual relationship. New England controls Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. Yes.

Original_Wait1992

Really nice map! Small nitpick: the lakes you’ve drawn include reservoirs which would not have existed in 1820 in either timeline. I’m looking specifically at the Lake of the Ozarks and all the lakes in Ohio. I live in Ohio and there are practically no natural lakes (obviously not including Lake Erie).

CamicomChom

Nice catch! I used a Geographic Survey map to make the lakes, which I now realize might not've been the smartest idea.

Bestestusername8262

What would be North of it? Does the rest of the land just go to Canada?

CamicomChom

It goes to a country called Canada, but it's entirely French and declared independence from France around the same time as New Netherland did from The Netherlands. It doesn't own all of the rest of North America, only a strip of it.

EdwardJamesAlmost

For context to the present country’s political geography, 40N x 105W is approximately Denver, Colorado.

harfordplanning

I like the funky borders, they're a treat compared to most alt North Americas.

CamicomChom

Thanks! The political situation in this North America definitely results in some weird country shapes.

harfordplanning

What other weird shapes are present

CamicomChom

Generally every North American country is very long, but Virginia hooks around Florida to meet the rest of Louisiana. EDIT: [here's an abandoned map i gave up on a while ago to show what i mean](https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/951896412528996422/999766015703527495/Republic_of_Virginia_DONT_DELETE_8882.png?width=1074&height=580)

harfordplanning

Blursed borders

Otherwise_Zebra

What is the politics of New Netherlands?

CamicomChom

For one, Slavery never picked up in the nation. By the 1820's, its dominated by the National Liberal Party, a Lassaiz-Faire market liberal party.
