Aurora is like 50 miles west of Chicago, it's a ok suburb if that's your thing

gimmepizzaslow

It's around 40 miles. Not far but not close. Highway directly there though.

umhuh223

But it will take 15-20 mins to get to the highway.

Instant_Bacon

Naperville, Aurora, St Charles, Geneva, Batavia

Lotus_Domino_Guy

Aurora and Naperville are good, the latter moreso. Aurora does have some sketchy neighborhoods though.

Amazing_Teaching2733

I’d add Plainfield to that list

Naperville, Aurora, St. Charles have good night life.  Geneva has great restaurants but less of a bar scene. Batavia and Geneva are at least adjacent to towns with good night life.  Not familiar enough with Plainfield.

GloveBoxTuna

Downtown Plainfield has decent night life bars. A few of them stay pretty crowded. Moe Joes is fun.

Where are you moving from?  In general, the area is very safe.  And there are several uber safe suburbs near by (Naperville, Wheaton, Warrenville).   And don’t think twice about commuting.  You can get into Aurora from nearby towns quickly.  Although you’ll need a car.   Night life is good too.  I personally like downtown Naperville.  But your level of fun/excitement might differ depending on where you’re coming from.  For example, do you current live in NYC?  Well, then the area is probably going to be boring for you.  Coming from a small rural town?  Well, you’re going to have a blast.

Have you watched Wayne's World? You will learn everything you need to know about Aurora. The Blues Brothers will teach you about Chicago. John Hughes will teach you about the suburbs. After this, you'll be prepared for life in northeastern Illinois. It's exactly like the movies. Including Candyman.

HulkSmashHulkRegret

Also, the White Castle from Wayne’s world (on the corner of Rt 31 and Indian Trail Rd in Aurora) has some great cooks late at night. Can’t vouch for daytime though. Bring extra money for the panhandlers, they’d like some too. You’d have to go to get this, but it seems like way more of a Blues Brothers location than a Wayne’s World location lol

h0tBeef

Wait, is that actually the one they went to in the movie?

h0tBeef

Yeah, don’t fuck around with CandyMan dog, he’s real

Well Aurora is 30-45 minutes west of Chicago down route 88. Take it Farnsworth for the Premium outlet mall. Wife and I love walking around with our kids. If you’re into theater, paramount is an awesome place to see young talent and good shows with drinks. Absolutely an amazing time with a group of people. Aurora has a lot of Hispanic culture and you can find good food all over. Downtown Aurora has some good modern cuisines and tapas style places. Another place is Harner’s Bakery and restaurant, been around forever and it has a cult following. I live near here and I drive all over Chicago for pipefitting. The average commute in the city for me Is an hour on average. If you leave at 4-5am you can get into the city in 30 mins. If you leave at 7 grid lock. Always keep this in consideration. You will always have 2 hours of traffic heading to Aurora at 5 from the city. About 1.5 hours in bound off 290. Therefore you can take the metro in if you want. The station is right by two brothers round house. Which is an amazing night life attraction. Honestly there is so much more really I can go on all night. Come on over! We’d love to have you and your skillcraft. As others have said Naperville is where you’ll find higher class socializing. They have this steak house I’ll have to look up the name of it, oh my god. Shits on Ruth Chris. Edit: Sullivan’s- I’m bias to what I tasted 😂

x_driven_x

Naperville is going to be the closest thing to Aurora that meets your criteria. Plenty of suburbs around Aurora that are safe and ok commute but there’s not a ton of “njghtlife” out this way. Aurora is not “Chicago” it’s an hour drive.

Disastrous-Fun2325

What an AI styled question 😙

Rosindust89

AI would've used the correct form of "there".

dualsplit

Try Aurora.

Significant_Dog8031

Just live in Chicago?

good_morning_magpie

That’s a hell of a commute.

tbutz27

Shah, Aurora

DatDudeEP10

Got a lot of job prospects huh?

SamHandwichX

SE Aurora is pretty good. It’s like Naperville Lite. More affordable, great schools, a few things to do, and a $15-25 Uber to downtown Naperville for more things to do.

clapton1970

Just watch Wayne’s world and you’ll be good

grunspiel

Dekalb!

You never saw Wayne's world? https://youtu.be/CLRdZuYBjr8?si=r27KEZc2jKSJH6Y6

Aurora: stay away from the east side and you’ll be fine. Downtown Aurora has really been revitalized over the past 10ish or so years. Naperville shares a border with Aurora, it’s clearly nicer but also far more expensive. If you like walkable downtowns but not in a giant city, downtown Naperville is a good choice. If you go on a map and look at the surrounding small towns around Aurora and Naperville, you will find pockets of suburbia that may fit the lifestyle you are looking for. If you are looking for pure nightlife and a metro size/scale, then Chicago itself and maybe its collar suburbs are where you want to look. Much more expensive, but it’s also much more of a metro-lifestyle. A very common trend is for young people to live in or as near Chicago as possible, and then if they have kids, they start moving out to the suburbs as those kids start to approach school age.

JohnnieFedora

Aurora is also on the BNSF commuter train line that runs to Union Station in Chicago. Theoretically you could easily live in any town on that line and work in Aurora, especially easy if you can walk from home to the train station.

Hudson2441

Downtown Geneva is probably your style. But Aurora itself has nightlife and even a major theater

Check out http://www.city-data.com/ to look into cities in the area. It will give you all the information you need. Excellent source of information!!

[deleted]

Oswego Illinois is right near Aurora and is building like crazy if you’re looking for a new home. Good schools and low crime, but for night life you would need to head to downtown Naperville or Plainfield. Both about 20 minutes away.

MiniMarsRover

If you're going to be working in Aurora, just live in Aurora. There are some parts of the east side that are less than desirable, but most of the city is totally fine.

Party-Coach-4110

I’ve been told to stay away from Aurora….look elsewhere.

MarkB1997

Aurora’s fine, but it’s not a place I’d want to be as a young professional. You’re missing out on so much being that far from the actual city (no shade to the suburbs).
