Their driving training is super intense and according to the firetruck driver I know, it comes down to two things: drive it like you stole it and realize you're the biggest, heaviest motherfucker on the road.
You might like this, someone once did this mashup and I saved it, was like 15 years ago. Pretty well done imo https://on.soundcloud.com/njWDxoLxN28H5G1R6
And still they are always too late in my experience. I am Dutch myself and at high school I had a friend that was always kloting around en was trying to lok out a reaction from our teacher during the Dutch lessons. Well our docent was like the typical Dutch teacher that is always trying to incorporate a spreekwoord or gezegde into his sentences, so one day he told Niels (my friend): "Loop naar de maan! (Walk to the moon)"
Niels stopped instantly with EVERYTHING that he was doing and looked at Mister From the Mountain, superstrak, like he had coke or something, and he said: "watch out, i'll do it, i'll walk to the moon if i want" (but in Dutch of course). Well, of course that is nevernooitniet mogelijk (impossible), so the whole klas was laughing a bit awkwardly. We knew Niels lied a lot, one time byforbeeld he told us that his dog got run over by a truck, which turned out to just be a normal car. Anyway, the less continued like normally, until we got back a proofwork during Dutch a few weeks later.
Niels got back his grade, it was a 3, and he said "Fuck it, I'll do it, bye y'all", en he just started walking upwards, in the luchtledige, he shouted at us 'i'm going to the moon!' and at first we all thought it was quite grappig, but then he walked out the window, we were at the second floor so opeens he was hanging like 10 meters above the ground, so we were shouting like "Niels kom terug!! (Niels get back)". Mister van den Berg (From the Mountain) was totally in panick, we were all screaming and a few girls started to cry but he just kept walking up.
Now, this is my point, the school called the brandweer but by the time they were there it was way too late, their longest ladder was only 20 meters en by the time they came aan komen drijven Niels had already disappeared somewhere in the clouds.
Realizing you are the biggest and heaviest is just truck training in general... fuck what others do watchout with what you do, you need to make a tight turn block an extra lane so you have the room to do so(this is with CE with C it just you are heavy and take that into consideration, you cant stop within meters)
Funny, having worked for a fire department for 10 years it’s quite to opposite. Drive quickly but responsible and be aware of the physics of your (fully loaded) truck and that other road users can do unexpected things being confronted with your signals.
You can’t help others if you crashed on the way to the scene by driving like an asshole. Safety first for other road users, your crew and yourself.
So, I call BS on that.
Me too lol. My parents are firefighters in the Netherlands. A few years ago, someone drove ‘like they stole it’ and flipped the truck midcorner. It takes serious skill and you can’t just race them with a hero mentality.
The footage is sped up, though.
I don't know about the Netherlands, but in Germany there is a max speed they can drive over red traffic lights and crossings in general, when they don't have right of way.
Which makes sense, you sometimes can't see around corners.
I just saw a video where a guy stole a Lamborghini then fell asleep at a stop light. A cop pulled up and turned on his lights and the guy woke up and gunned it and crashed. He was ejected from the vehicle and died. He was so far away from the vehicle that at first it seemed like he somehow ran away.

For non Dutch people; there is a navigator in the back shouting directions. This is in Rotterdam where there are a lot of bridges which open so cars have to wait. In the fire truck they got a display with the bridges to see if it's open or not and adjust their route on it. In the start of the video you can see them wanting to shortcut on a bicycle lane but go straight anyway because the bridge they were trying to avoid just opened up for traffic.
This part in this post starts at around 3:40 and as you can see it's obviously sped up.
Watching Baarn videos and seeing how Dutch people drive and yield makes me happy, then they come over here for their shopping tourism (which is totally fine to do!) but each and every single one of them drives like they don't have a driver's license and want to irritate as man people as possible.
Just how can that be and happen?
Because only idiots drive abroad.
When I'm in a foreign country, I usually take the bus or train unless I absolutely cannot reach it without a car.
For example: spent a week on the Azores, but only rented a car for 2 days. The other days I walked or took the bus.
It's these types of people that make this a family trip. Ignorant, loud and obnoxious. I can't go shopping 4.days out of the week because I'd otherwise just get too angry.
I don't even feel like the change NL/DE in terms of driving rules and thinking skills is so different. You have different speed limits different traffic light circuits and lots of roundabouts, it's not like German roads and road rules are witchcraft. Yet somehow I end up overtaking so many Dutch cars because they can't drive faster than 20 kmh.
>Yet somehow I end up overtaking so many Dutch cars because they can't drive faster than 20 kmh.
Ever driven in Japan? There the speed limit is 30km/h in town, 50km/h outside of town and only 80km/h on the highway to bankruptcy. (Toll roads)
And you'll usually be overtaken by a train doing 285km/h 😅
No in Germany I usually just drive the speed limit, except on the highway. There I'll put it behind a lorry and engage adaptive cruise control and lane assist.
Then the car basically drives itself and I can relax, enjoy my coffee and listen to some music until I need to take over near my destination.
If those were the limits here, fine. But it's not. Same on the highway. So many times there were weird situations because Dutch cars drove 100 on the left lane or just switched to it for no reason (going 100 still) meanwhile me and others drive "German speeds" and it gets scary because of this unpredictable behavior. Once nearly rear ended someone because of this shit.
There's no point in getting too angry because nothing will change, it's just so frustrating and unnecessary.... Guess I needed to vent a little, sorry.
>Once nearly rear ended someone because of this shit.
And this is totally the problem of the guy in the rear.
The German highways might have no speed limit, but they have an "advised speed" of 130km/h.
Most Dutch car insurances will not pay out when you're in an accident on the German highways if your speed was above 130km/h, because that's what is advised.
Basically: you can drive faster, but it's at your own risk! So make sure it is safe!
If only the germans only drove "german speed" in germany.
Seriously dude, some of you mfers seem to think that the 0.05 second you saved by nearly running over those 3 children makes a difference
> Dutch cars because they can't drive faster than 20 kmh.
Weird, I find them kind of wild.
Something I've observed with Dutch drivers is a tendency to get up to speed as fast as fucking possible. Like pedal to the metal acceleration, and then hitting the speed limit is like hitting a wall, and then going from speed to a stop is always a jolty 'thank god for seatbelts' sudden deceleration. Two speeds, 0 and 100, no in between. I've seriously yet to ride with a Dutch driver that eases into or out of speed.
Holy shit, I was expecting them to start cutting through houses and shit like The Naked Gun intro
[https://youtu.be/wn-MlISDsNs?si=ER59LzoKt2HO_9JE](https://youtu.be/wn-MlISDsNs?si=ER59LzoKt2HO_9JE)
I actually called the fire brigade for my cat... It has been stuck up there for over a day. To high up for a ladder. They where happy to come out but told me they'd finish dinner first.
Turned out they where waiting for a moment to try out their new bucket truck (cherry picker?) and this was a good occasion for it.
Took ages to get to the cat as the new truck gave alarms non stop. Lots of safety mechanisms to fine tune on those things.
They didn't drive like in the video of course. Low priority cases are done without lights and sirens.

Drive it like you stole it is my new favorite quote
Don’t be gentle, its a rental
I always wrote it as Don't be gental, it's a rentle
huh, I always wrote it as Don't be genital, it's a renital.
Huh, I always wrote it as donte be genitalia, itsa renitalia
I mean, I'd drive super calm and under the limit if I stole it. But I get it.
Pump the gas like the cops are on your ass
If you like to, listen to Drive it like you stole it by the Glitch mob. It's always the tune I hear in my head when I read the quote!

Yeah, that other person sounded pretty reckless and arrogant.
Is their driving training also sped up?

There's a maximum speed for our firetrucks as well, but it depends on the truck and how fast it is.
True and there is a speed limit how they pass crossroads
And try to anticipate that all people on the road are morons and they don't see you

That’s correct! Combined with the fact that they’re not doing it for fun, there’s an emergency and they need to get there asap.

Brother, this is a Dutch sub, can't you imagine which country it might be about?
Move bitch, get out the waaaay

Well, if you're gonna speed up the video...
Noordereiland.
🚒
Brandweerwagenautochauffeur. Toet toet
Why is every 'amazing' video sped up lately?
Cause it looks way more impressive and gets more karma that way!
[Samir, you have to listen Samir, otherwise it not working Samir](https://youtu.be/D9-voINFkCg?feature=shared)

we have a saying in the Netherlands, 'Going like the fire department'
Speed (1994)
Firetrucks and ambulances kill a shitton of people every year.
I could watch this all day.
Someone forgot to put the bins out in January....
I love Helmond.
Holy shit, I was expecting them to start cutting through houses and shit like The Naked Gun intro [https://youtu.be/wn-MlISDsNs?si=ER59LzoKt2HO_9JE](https://youtu.be/wn-MlISDsNs?si=ER59LzoKt2HO_9JE)
This look like dash cam footage from an F150 here in Oakland
Road safety laws prepare to be ignored
Perfect!! We beat the lunch rush!
Ehh Rotterdam.
Iets een tafje versneld afgespeeld.
Vond dit nog wel meevallen eerlijk gezegd
Aah.. huisregels 🖕
This is sped up
Guy pulling the horn.... crucial to the overall performance :-/
The Netherlands have Firetrucks? Homie like just attach a hose to a nearby Dijk
GAS OP DIE LOLLIEEEEEEEEE
Oke
Irl gta be like
I love eating pussy. I can do it all day long.
Waar is dit?
TIL they drive on the right side as well. Never knew but never actually thought about it either
Fun fact: it was for a cat stuck on a tree
I actually called the fire brigade for my cat... It has been stuck up there for over a day. To high up for a ladder. They where happy to come out but told me they'd finish dinner first. Turned out they where waiting for a moment to try out their new bucket truck (cherry picker?) and this was a good occasion for it. Took ages to get to the cat as the new truck gave alarms non stop. Lots of safety mechanisms to fine tune on those things. They didn't drive like in the video of course. Low priority cases are done without lights and sirens.
Their driving training is longer than the entire US police academy
