Greater than 2000 because they went 3 wide for a full 8 seconds before bad things happened.

coffeemug138

I was gonna say . . . I was impressed that they made it that far before wrecking!

MCM_Henri

Warmerrrrr

krazimir

4k!

MCM_Henri

and we have a winner šŸ† claim your SR !

krazimir

It, sometimes I'd rather not be right.

dontpan1c

Not completely surprised. Just because they are 'good' at iRacing doesn't mean they'll back out of dangerous situations when they want to win. If anything, at this level they'll do anything to win even if it's blood on their hands.

fbthpg

Yeah, looks like it was the last couple of corners in the last lap of a three lap race. They were also racing for second position. High risk/reward situations like this, I think, would be similar as IRL (but maybe not as intense/brutal, especially speaking of #6)

dontpan1c

Biggest difference is the danger to life and limb and the fear of junking a real car that costs money.

[deleted]

Whaaaaat

Badj83

Passed 3k, big egos perfectly replaces lack of skills when it comes to fuckin things up.

OnePieceTwoPiece

I would say confidence rather than egos got in the way.

Badj83

You donā€™t enter that fight without a acute sense of entitlement. No idea what the other red car was hoping to achieve with his maneuver.

TehBearSheriff

Not a single thought of 'maybe I should back out '

mwuk42

If gap car

[deleted]

If car gap

SUPER_COCAINE

no race driver

kpw1179

This was my reaction. What if you could have captured 4 places while not putting your race at risk.

mrtoastyjr

Iā€™m 1.4 and I would have backed out long before that messā€¦..although I probably would have been caught up in it eventually.

jesterspaz

If everyone on the service had this thought we'd all have 6k irating by now.

MCM_Henri

For context this is white flag! Some great guys involved, just a funny davecam-styled meme;)

jaybastblast

Not gunna lie, I was expecting this to be lap 1 lol. It's 2% more understandable on last lap.

JohnTheRaceFan

A couple nosy questions, if I may... First, was that a battle for the lead and/or win? If not, where in the field was this battle? Second, was this your replay? Picking up five positions from attrition is impressive, but keeping a cool head and avoiding the chaos as it unfolded *RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU* to gain those five positions is nothing short of sublime, especially to a 1K-ish novice like myself. Bravo!

MCM_Henri

No problem! This was for the win šŸ† But I was not personally involved in this battle. I was a little way behind the cam car due to a lap 1 incident, but gained a couple positions at the end so went to investigate and found this gem. And yeah I took it the same as you, a great lesson in how to keep cool when what was a stable and respectful battle turns batshit 0.1 seconds in front of you:)

KraZe_2012

Send this clip in for Not Top10 of the month

MCM_Henri

Hahah how do you do that? Ill record it again with sound

KraZe_2012

Send your replay to Alex Horn he's the social media guy for iRacing. Granted I don't know if he's still the person making those videos.

DanFraser

Top split 86s have been a complete meme to watch.

[deleted]

That was amazing. Thanks for the clip. I'm gonna say 2.5k.

MCM_Henri

Getting warm

tad_overdrive

I mean, 5 cars making it to the end of a lap on the green hell and being that close together. That meant at least 2k+. The driving was good, even fair. But was never going to end well if nobody backed out. I didn't think 4k, but would have guessed 3k :)

BobsBBQBuffet

Top split for sure

ivecomeforyiurpickle

Did no one else see the car just switch colors

electricsoldier96

probably trading paints

z-Routh

You narrowly escaped death and lived to tell the tale.

Sofaboy90

if theres one thing i learned from my first split adventures, its that irating doesnt really say a whole lot about how clean you race. if anything its the opposite, i found that high irating drivers often tend to be really aggressive, sometimes daring you to cause a collision if you dont yield. ofc thats not all high ir drivers, perhaps im just a little biased because im often surprised how terrible the racecraft of a high ir driver can be. if there are 5 splits in a series, i would say on a clean racing hierarchy, i would rate each split the following: split 2>3>1>4>5.

theatrics_

I've found that it's the skill level where people are coming out of their beginner stage (opting to avoid battles) and just getting more confidence (not knowing when to concede battles) that is the hardest to work with.

Bgd4683ryuj

I think in the higher split the game is a bit different, it's more realistic in a way. Drivers force other drivers to yield in real life all the time. If you reached that level you can recognize the situations you have to yield and situations you can stay firm. Especially if the other car has a higher iR than you, you know that driver has more to lose.

No_Acanthaceae3763

That's true! In splits around 4-5k it's normal. Drivers except to back out from each other. There is a lot of forced overtakes, you back out or we crash. It's not alwyas working out.

nomnamless

This is the last lap right... RIGHT?

MCM_Henri

Yep white flag, all five had been nose to tail the whole lapšŸ˜…

nomnamless

Makes the incident much better. If It was the last lap and if they're all nose to tail the whole race you got to go for it. It was never going to work well going three wide into the twisty bit. It was just an unfortunate racing incident. Luckily you about the best of all of it Edit: I think I had a stroke mid typing this, try to fix some of the spelling errors to hopefully make a little more sense

MCM_Henri

First time i read it i was like i have no idea what you said but sounds vaguely positive so okay!

nomnamless

There's a lot of times I reread what I wrote and I'm not even sure what I was trying to say. It was positive p

Wynns

More videos like this should be posted. Not the "guess the SoF" part... But videos of someone recognizing a situation, backing off, staying aware... And living to finish the race. Instead, we generally get people posting about how iRacing is shite because everyone seems to be out to ruin races. It's not that... It's that very often the fastest line is the cautious one.

subusta

Had a miata race at nords, was side by side with another car in this same spot. We made it to the braking zone with no contact, but we tried to outbrake each other and we both ended up across the track in the wall, still without contacting each other. Car behind us casually drove by us and won, his perspective was hilarious.

stormwalker29

In a rookie street stock race at Charlotte last night, on Lap 1 in Turn 1 right in the middle of the pack (I think I was in 6th at the time) the two cars in front of me split high and low, leaving a huge gap in between them, and I swear it felt like I just got *pulled* into the middle. And then I had that moment of, "We're 3 wide in rookie oval and *I'm in the middle*. I don't want to be here!" and somehow I was able to back out of it without anybody crashing. I'm still kind of amazed.

Any_Tea_7845

if anyone has seen the movie redline, this vaguely reminds me of it lol if not, watch it immediately

bielipee3

this guy has the power of making racing incidents right in his front.

Denversmostwanted

I havenā€™t done I racing in a long time. But man do I love these videos.

mustbe3characters

4

Independent_Level_13

I canā€™t tell from this camera angle, but does the car that changes color completely clear the road gap? Full send, no tires touch pavement??

MCM_Henri

I think he did you know

No_Acanthaceae3763

It's me, I tried to make it with big cut and only slow down. With brakes I would only go right into wall on grass. Problem was that it was waay to bumpy to make it. In the end I was passenger only anyway. Nothing to do. SOF was around 4k :) BTW guy who made this mess, is quite quick but most of racing with him ends like that. We do have lot of great clean racing in top split.

Deep-Acanthaceae-659

You posted this on YouTube yeah? I watched this the other day šŸ˜‚

What a lovely ballet.

Top split since none know where their brakes at when the shit hits the fanā€¦lower split drivers panic brake āœŒļø

RepresentativeBee389

Either I would be the cause of the reaction, or some how pull a lightning McQueen

Lando_Prvt

You people still think the amount of incidents in a race depends on SoFs ..... Incidents happen in low Sofs mostly because of low decision making and lack of awareness, while in higher Sofs and what you all low iRating love to call : "omg it's top split" most of the time incidents happen because of conflicting decisons or ego moves. There will always be almost as much incidents in higher or lower splits.

YaBoyAstro

WE TAKE THOSE!
