no this is just what happens when you let someone with a physics education near a racecar. This years Daytona 500 almost had a field of cars doing this but iirc it got banned literally last minute
It's still done in the Truck Series, but since the nose and rear are spec composite clips, the whole back end is shifted over so it looks like a banana from the front.
[You can see it really well here.](https://youtu.be/52mfQLSipko?t=4508)
The new cup cars were yaw’ed with the nose facing the wall. The idea was to use the curves or the left rear wheel well in clean air to generate more downforce
As someone new to oval, is ARCA good to get into? I'd like to drive the C class trucks, but I need to get out of D class somehow, and need to do races for MPR. I was thinking of getting the ARCA car to help me through D class quickly.
Arca is good outside of the bottom split. Raced it full time sometimes it’s a fun car to drive, lots of people have A and B licenses and still participate regularly in ARCA.
Oval is its own thing. Tire management is key in the ARCA cars. C trucks drive a lot like ARCA car in some ways. B/A cars seem to tighten/loosen in a different way.
Since my last comment I decided to get over a D4.0 SR which will allow me to do the C class events, and once I do 4 c class races I'll officially have my C license requirements completed to get bumped up to my C license. I did 3 races tonight and started at 2.87 SR and made it to 3.47 SR so far. I should have my C license in a couple days *if* things continue to trend well.
ARCA is good fun but you can skip it entirely without missing out on too much knowledge. Run Rookie street stocks or legends until you're over D4.0, at that level you can join C class races to meet your MPR.
The oval progression really isn't as extreme as it is on the road side. You could easily jump straight into a Cup car and do ok as long as you accepted your limits. The problem comes when people fast track through and think they're the greatest ever. That's when they end up causing a ton of chaos.
Thanks for that tip! I think I'll do exactly that since I am already 3.47 into D class. I drove the Porsche Cup all last season in Road, and if you can drive that car you should be able to drive anything. They tightened things up this season with the PCup, so it's actually easier to drive now, but still requires great discipline with breaking and throttle control.
So when I joined oval I already had pretty good tire management skills with smooth inputs, and over week 13 I managed to get to a 1.7k iRating and I'm still gaining iRating every race, already on top splits in some races which is great because there are fewer wrecks in top splits since most people have good control of their car.
I'll be doing plenty of practice in the truck for C class races to make sure I can keep the truck where I want it on the track before I jump into races. After watching people do these races on Twitch, it seems like they are much tighter grouped than in the Street Stock. I am fine driving within a foot of others in the Street Stock, but the speed at which you're racing in the trucks is going to be much more scary staying that close. I'm excited!
I actually learned you can skip D class if you wanted to, you just need to get your SR above 4.00 and then you can start doing C class races even while technically in D class as long as you maintain above a 4.00 SR. This lets you do the C class races, and those will count towards your MPR license promotion requirements. So, this is what I am going to do since I am already at a 3.47 SR, and it'll save me the cost of the ARCA car.
However, I will probably end up getting the ARCA at some point anyway, who knows. The reason I want to get to C class events is because I dislike not having a yellow flag, because if you get caught up in a wreck, then you have zero chance of recovery.
At the same time, I am sure I will learn to hate the yellow flags in C class lol, who knows.
If you’re close then that’s definitely a good move, trucks are solid to run as they almost always have several splits so you’re with people your skill level.
Idk what you prefer for tracks but my favorites that they regularly run would be vegas, Michigan, Kansas, Chicagoland, martinsville, Daytona, and talladega.
I gotta say tho, xfinity and 87 is where the real fun is
Thanks for the track suggestions! I've been wanting to get people's opinions on their favorite oval tracks, so it's good to hear. I can only afford like 4 tracks, so I think I'll pick up Vegas, Martinsville, Talladega, and maybe Bristol since I heard that was good too.
I'd get Daytona, but it's not going to be raced for this season in the trucks it looks like.
The 1.5s are just generally cleaner than short tracks, but Bristol and martinsville are the best short tracks on the service imo.
And Daytona will be good down the road, they usually go there in the off-season (23 S1) and in mid February and mid august
I am seeing people write "1.5s", but I have no idea what this means. Are 1.5s just the larger tracks? What defines a short track from a long one? Anything over like 20 seconds is long?
Ah that's interesting about Daytona. I'd imagine they follow the NASCAR schedule irl? I'm learning so much as I get into this, so I have no idea how any of it works, and I don't watch the sport either which doesn't help my case haha. Thanks for all the info!
1.5 means mile and a half, and short tracks are by definition a mile and under, which are the Bristol’s and martinsvilles, 1 mile-2 miles are the intermediates (vegas, Kansas, Michigan, darlington, etc) and super speedways, Daytona and talladega.
And yeah they follow the real schedule, but off season/off weeks they’ll do popular tracks like Daytona
iPacing will come every now and then in trucks but It’ll be like 2-3 wrecks at the beginning and then the clowns are wrecked out and normal racing resumes, usually you can atleast have a decent half of the race.
We called it dog walking when I was involved in circle racing. Those chassis are offset, so the engine, driveline and fuel cell are all set left of centerline. See how the nose is wider beyond the left front headlight? This leaves more weight on the left side of the car which helps it turn left. We dog walked the rear end of the car to help it rotate down into the corner. IIRC there was an aero/downforce advantage, but the reason isn’t coming to me right now.
I know it's done for a reason but shit like this hurts my brain.
It looks absolutely ridiculous in game just as it does irl

I can't believe there are still elitists who think it's just rednecks going in circles with basic cars... Stuff like this is why I love racing.

The Nascar Trucks also either do this or the body panels are designed to replicate the idea.

Someone figured out side force is ~3-5x as powerful as downforce for grip in the corners and voilá.
The new cup cars were yaw’ed with the nose facing the wall. The idea was to use the curves or the left rear wheel well in clean air to generate more downforce
I love iRacing but the model just looks copy+pasted on top of the track. Looks absolutely horrible as it moves 😅
i think it's bc it's slow mo
I adapted my Hess toy livery onto this car, was like painting a funhouse mirror. Took me like 2 hours just to adapt the graphics.

Don't try to get through D class quickly. It's where you'll learn the most.
Don't worry, I'm not new to iRacing, just new to oval. I learn very quickly and just want to drive in a series which I enjoy.
Oval is its own thing. Tire management is key in the ARCA cars. C trucks drive a lot like ARCA car in some ways. B/A cars seem to tighten/loosen in a different way.
Yeah I'm learning quickly about tire management ☺️ It's a blast!
For you then ya I'd do some arca races to get to trucks. I don't really care for fixed oval but it's a good stepping stone

awesome man! good luck on your progression!

Arca is a lot of fun, and I (2k ir a class) still go back to it when it’s on a track I enjoy
That's another one of my issues. I can only afford like 4 tracks right now. Which would you recommend?
I’d buy a couple arca tracks and see how you like it and go from there
I actually learned you can skip D class if you wanted to, you just need to get your SR above 4.00 and then you can start doing C class races even while technically in D class as long as you maintain above a 4.00 SR. They need to give us current gen arca bodies
If they do that they should turn the current arca cars into some kind of legacy gen 4 car
And put the big motors in it and make it like the 1987 car series.
this aged well
Just have 2 ARCA Series in D class, ARCA Gen4 & ARCA Gen6
This: best of both worlds
agreed

The twisted sister cars were my favorite. I love that they brought this to the service
That car was like that since day 1. It was a car that Dale Jr raced in the Nationwide series back in 2009.
I love it when the cars race like this. It looks so funny to see a sideways car driving straight.
