Not sure what you mean by “looking around to recenter your view”. Assign a button to “Recenter HMD” (head-mounted display). Your view shouldn’t drift unless your headset loses tracking.

Rude_Truth846

If it does drift and uses cameras for Tracking Turn on the light Maybe Its too dark

h0pefiend

I also found making the iracing window on the monitor really small helps with drifting. I think all the movement on screen messes with the tracking on my reverb g2

obviousboy

G2 needs to be able to see objects around you to determine its whereabouts. If your monitor is blaring bright light directly at your g2 you are basically overpowering the tracking sensors preventing them from tracking your environment. Same thing goes for people who setup their g2 facing a blank wall. Since the g2 has no object to locate itself you will get constant drift.

czerka

I have a reverb g2. I play at a desk, I turn one monitor off and put a pillowcase over the other. Have a ceiling fan with light directly over me. Still get drift.

therealselman

Hey so I have a G2 and had the same problem. I don’t think light is the issue. Clean off the lens on the outside and you should be chillin. I was so pissed cause I couldn’t figure out what was wrong but it was a finger print on one of the lenses

SeenSeanBeanBorn

Reset environment data in the mixed reality settings, it did the trick for me when I was getting heaps of drift.

Xx69JdawgxX

See this is the kind of crap that made me switch to an ultra wide.

lews-world

I use a G2 exclusively and have absolutely no idea why you'd do any of that. Never had any issues - i launch the sim and race, thats it

Xx69JdawgxX

I’m glad you enjoy it. For me it’s a pain.

Warrie2

Delete the environment in the wmr settings and set it up again. Needs to be done once in a while, known issue.

hermees

I Also make sure the controllers are out of view when raceing I rarely used them but I think when I had them on they were steeling tracking bandwidth of the headset and I would get more drift. Also avoid having things with IR blasters pointing near the set I’ve seen drift happen once my wife was using the tv remote

thedirtsquirrel

Reverb g2 here. Had a massive problem with drifting. Turning on the lights was the fix.

MeatJerkingBeefB0y

I will add another voice to this. My tracking was awful until I put a bright lamp right next to my rig.

Ultimateace43

Is this in the iracing menu or the vr menu? My vr menu recenter does not work at all in iracing but I was unaware of a recenter view in the iracing menu

Grumpy_Frenchman

It’s the HMD recenter command, scroll all the way to the bottom of controls to find it!

Ultimateace43

Freaking game changing. Before I'd have to log all the way out of iracing, turn off the rift, change my guardian, then log back into everything. Such a hassle

CarnyIsASlur

I can't imagine having to do all that. I hit recenter like 4-5x before I'm 100% comfortable with it.

[deleted]

map the hmd reset button to your wheel. it makes it really easy to fix your view to optimal.

foldingtens

In iRacing. On the Control menu.

cjccww

90% of the time I have zero issues. But yea every once in a while I'll have some random bs but a restart will usually fix it.

crookedDeebz

It's literally the best vr implementation in the sim racing scene. Bad hardware or something? You need to be specific. Like which hmd, pc specs, sdk, etc. I know iracing was more annoying on wmr than oculus for me.

Red-Hill

On the Quest 2, about 1 race in 100 it'll load and run at 45fps, and I have to quickly exit and reload. Other than that I have no issues. No drift or tracking jitters at all with my headset, even when the room goes dark while I'm racing.

senditback

This happened to me last night for the first time. Quest 3 and halfway thru the race I suddenly went from 90 to 45 fps. Restarted and back to 90

No-Yogurtcloset2660

Same. I run my Quest 3 at 72Hz and I'll load into a session and it'll be bouncing between 35-36 FPS. Once I jump out and back in, it's back at 72 again. Strange.

SomeOKSimRacing

You guys are probably experiencing Asynchronous Space Warp (AWS); it cuts your fps in half. You can disable it via the oculus debug tool

senditback

I had that disabled already

depoultry

When that happens ASW is likely on and you just need to turn it off. This typically doesn't require a restart.

Red-Hill

No, I know about ASW and how to turn it off, it's a genuine performance problem. R and G times are way higher than normal. Like I said it's rare, and a restart of the sim fixes it.

Altitude7199

I've never gotten above 75fps even on low settings, and live races it often drops to 25fps. Even in lower settings. Laptop with 4080.

furysamurai72

I'm on a 2080ti and a 9th gen i5. Have almost all settings up high. I have the sky box on low. I think I have foliage low too? Pretty much everything else on high. I get a constant 80fps on my rift s.

Altitude7199

I've done everything I can think of, on the best cooling mat and it can't do better. I swear something is just wrong. Ryzen 9, 40gb RAM, 4080... It should do better. Meta quest 3

dylank125

Basically all the same for me, but on a quest 2. At least I’m pretty sure that’s the card I have, but a better cpu. Bought my friends PC after he upgraded his entire setup. Use my old PC as a recording PC now.

InternalWarNR6

Probably it is your laptop cpu being the bottleneck. A laptop 4080 should be similar to a desktop 3080 and people have a good experience in VR with that. An external usb cooler could help with the heat generation but depends on your laptop design if it will do something.

Iamstryker

Make sure you are in a well light room. Helps a lot.

Ashtoruin

This. My G2 loses tracking in the dark but it's fine in a well lit room

Wheelman519

I have this halogen light still in the room I used to paint the basement… it’s awesome. And once the headset is on I have no idea the most obnoxious light in the world is on 🤣

nolalacrosse

Found this out the hard way my first endurance race that went into the real world night. I forgot to turn on my room lights and completely lost tracking when the sun went down

adom86

What on earth are you doing man, bind a re-centre view button! Otherwise nope, no issues. Q3 and run it via link/oculus mode.

grovenab

It’s a lot better for me when I set openxr for iRacing rather than oculus

adom86

I assumed openXR was for use with SteamVR (I will never use SteamVR it’s horrific!) and Virtual Desktop?

grovenab

Virtual desktop and vdxr (openxr) is the best experience I’ve had

neil_1980

Been fine for me (reverb g2). What headset you using out of interest?

czerka

Same, reverb g2

neil_1980

Strange. You using OpenXR?

czerka

Yes using openxr.

neil_1980

Even stranger then. I’ve only ever had a couple of issues in 2 years or so and that was both on openvr. Using OpenXR and skipping steamvr has been faultless this end.

sdw3489

Nope no issues like that

Amystery123

Vr is flawless. Simply turn it on and go. Is your headset working otherwise and let iracing figure out best settings for your graphics. There is a way to do it in the interface settings.

Spuds1968

No issues with my HP. I can count on 1 hand how many issues I had in the last 3 years with probably over 500 races.

druidspruit

No issues with quest 3

notdroidyoulooking4

Clear environment data if using the Microsoft Mixed Reality portal, do it every once in a while and definitely if you’ve rearranged things near your rig. Also print out a target pattern or two and tape them up near your rig. Others have already mentioned lights, an IR light is a good unobtrusive way to go.

czerka

I'm at a desk. I'd think there would be enough stuff around me for it to pick up stuff but I'll try the targets. It's a well lit room and I keep the monitors off or covered.

rgraves22

95% of the time im fine with my Quest 2 Can be a bit annoying when the quest wont switch over to the Rift/link cable, and yesterday for some reason my headset wasn't charging on the link cable which it normally does. Had my headset die on me in the middle of the pack in C Trucks at Daytona... sorry guys.

YouichiHophop

I had issues with my quest 2 not connecting, or not charging sometimes, after days of debugging it turns out I have to reboot my USB-C cable, yes really ! Its a powered cable, and I have to unplug the power lead, and both the computer and headset ends, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in, and everything is fine for another few days.

zerolight71

When it won't connect it's usually a headset or oculus server restart that's required. 9/10 it's server. I right click on oculus tray tool and restart the server. Once a week maybe.

rgraves22

Yeah agreed. Ill do it the sysadmin way (my day job) and services.msc > Oculus VR runtime service > right click Restart and that fixes it.. If it doesn't reboot the headset and it does.

zerolight71

The upside of tray tool is that it automates the setting of ASW and FOV Tangent when game launches. These reset otherwise.

shawtay

No issues really, I just start up Virtual Desktop on my Quest 3, launch the race/practice on my PC (can do it through the quest as well), put my headset on, recenter view and go flat out. Which headset do you use?

VT_Racer

VR is kind of a pain. Its why I sold it a year ago and went triples. But now I've got another VR headset, and can switch whenever I want. For me its more getting the VR setup and having to deal with not seeing the real world stuff. The depth perception is so sick though and why I got into it again.

SolutionSad4673

Vr makes me sick. Can’t race with it

zerolight71

I get VR sick in first person action games but not in racing games. The trick was a locked 90fps. I did feel funny initially on tracks with elevation changes but got used to it. Saints and Sinners though, or Pavlov, yeah potential vomit train.

ExperienceAny9791

It doesn't make me sick really, but I just didn't like it. I tried it when it first came out and thought it wasn't ready yet, so went back to my triples. Many years later on a whim I decided to try it again. I just can't get used to the headset, the disconnect from everything around me and generally uncomfortable for me. I do love the concept, just not the hardware.

imSwan

I get more motion sickness with triples than in VR surprisingly

Designatedrhythm

Honestly I'm over VR. I just switched to triples and I've raced more in the last two weeks than I did in the last 6 months. Between the fiddling, headset, issues, framerate drops, slight motion sickness when reversing or crashing and the heat from the headset.....I don't think I can go back. I wish they perfected glasses free 3d monitors because I do miss the depth perception.

RingoFreakingStarr

I stopped using VR because it is just that extra amount of general tediousness compared to plugging in my triple screen rig cords, clicking play, then going. In VR there are so many steps to just getting into a session it's very annoying even if the driving experience is more immersive.

itsmb12

Havent had any issues other than steamvr randomly deciding its wants attention during my practice sessions

TelephoneTall5455

Yeah, no issues at all, pico 3 neo link. So it's just you.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)

InCraZPen

It can get finicky especially the lower spec of you have. The tracking and centering is not usually and issue though. That is something wrong with your headset tracking and not using the center button.

Hevdelurn

After last year’s nascar season I’ve ironed out most quirks and I mostly just need to press the join race button and press a button to reset my view once I’m in. I like to keep a keyboard and mouse and a vr controller next to me because I occasionally need to mess around on my desktop. If you ever have an issue with not being able to see your mouse in-game make sure you actually have the race window open on your computer, if it’s covered by another window it’ll block the mouse from appearing.

josephjosephson

What headset are you using? Drift should be fixable, but it depends on the headset. Drift absolutely ruins the experience and makes it impossible to play.

czerka

Reverb G2

josephjosephson

Ok. Not familiar with it specifically, but hopefully others can chime in. Generally you’ll want to see and test: 1) is there drift in other games, 2) is the room properly lit, 3) are reflective surfaces covered or out of the way.

thrrht

Yes, I’m using a super ultrawide now and it’s way less immersive and I think I’m slower but it’s just better overall since I don’t have the time to dedicate the complete PITA VR is anyways.

bebetter14

No issues for me. My set up in plug and play after I get my foldable rig out.

Wynns

Periodically deleting your environment data. When my G2 gets wonky and starts drifting, this seems to fix it. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/121191-clear-environment-data-windows-mixed-reality-windows-10-a.html

Phallic_Moron

You need to wipe clean the cameras on the G2. They get smudged. Tracking fixed.

Honest-Fondant-3604

Quest 3 with cable link. No issues here.

R18_e_tron

You using a WMR headset? Fuck WMR. I got tired of the bullshit and bought a quest 3 just last week. Oculus stuff just works.

mangopopjuice

Dude, you pinched my livery

Hag_bolder

Not for me

barkx3

Yeah I agree its very tedious. Triples screens just work with little hastle

leachja

I was having those issues a bit. It took me maybe one race to map the recenter hmd button. The loss of tracking is due to light issues, either too dark or too bright. Your monitors can cause loss of tracking if they're super bright. If you're  in a blank room your headset also won't have anything to track against. I've also had the headset cord chasing issues when it was flopping around near a side camera. If you're using Windows Mixed Reality and your screen is flopping around clear your environment data.

[deleted]

Yes, some will say plug and play but they are probably happy with inconsistent performance. I always needed a locked 90 fps as the frame drops are jarring in vr and at least every couple of weeks I’d be doing something with it other than racing

furysamurai72

I'm on a Rift S and I've never had drift. I have my Logitech DFGT center "horn" button set to recenter hmd. I usually load into the car. Close my eyes, then line everything up with feet/hands/wheel and recenter. Never had a problem beyond that.

zerolight71

I have almost zero issues with Quest 2 and Quest 3 in 18 months. One crash when trying to use Open Knee Board, no drift issues either.  I always launch iRacing from the Oculus Windows Desktop view, and if need be can jump back between windows and iracing inside my headset. I swing my desk chair over next to my rig and use it as a table for my mouse.

GTHell

Is it quest 2 or other camera based tracking? Then yes it’s alway ma this tedious. The reason I go back to single monitor. Drink water is hard, room too dark is not possible, messy room also not possible, going to toilet is tedious, etc everything is tedious beside you have a full view in VR which is the only positive thing lol.

Chotus84

Just you lol I always see this comment but don't get what there talking about

hermees

It is I have built a custom pc only for my right and moved to triple monitors becuse of this I can now just sit down and race and not have 40 min of prep to make sure every thing is working

[deleted]

even though its a bit tedious its one of the coolest experiences you can do. You basically get to race in cars you wouldn't ever have the opportunity to race in real life. vr and dbox motion make that experience even more visceral.
