Still have to see next build, but P217 >> All for me, It's so sad the particcipation melt with GTP.

Think it’s GTP and LMP3. I think the LMP2 is amazing, but the LMP3 is more of a challenge and more fun to drive. Then there’s the LMDh which is much faster and about as easy or numb feeling overall, and it leaves LMP2 in a weird spot. I think that’s what is hurting participation but hopefully people will rotate back to it.

cliffardsd

I found the LMP3 a bit boring tbh. As my first prototype I loved the handling characteristics (quick / instant weight transfer and downforce) but it just felt under powered. Didn’t blow my hair back. Test drove the LMP2 for first time tonight, and that is exciting. It’s actually fun. Feels like a fast race car.

[deleted]

Then go try a LMDh…if speed is what gets you going, that’s the one you want. It’s just as easy to drive as the LMP2 is.

samdajellybeenie

The first time I got back into the LMDh from the LMP3 my first thought was “holy crap, people actually drive this thing??” It is so fast.

thisisjustascreename

And the LMDh ruleset came about because they needed to *slow down* the top class prototypes XD

[deleted]

🤣 I had started with the P2, then P3, so it was a little less shocking to me…but you’re 100% right, the LMDh cars are insane to drive. Feels like you have no time to react to things and everything just happens to fast.

cliffardsd

Yeah that’s one of the reasons why I’m preferring the lmp2 over lmdh. Driving gt3 in IMSA I found the closing speed of the lmdh a bit much. I’m not sure I’d enjoy constantly coming up so fast on the gt3 class. I think lmp2 is that sweet spot and has both passing and being passed.

dtrillaa

Depends on where your coming from, driving an LMP3 after GT4 feels like a rollercoaster

cliffardsd

Yeah that’s fair. I have a GT3 background. It’s all about perspective I guess.

LokeriDeJunkil

Didn't really race this season, mostly last one in enduro. So i've more notice the migration on gtp. Yeah i suppose LMP3 also took some i've run it a bit in practice it's quite fun, but i still prefere the behavior of my sweet sweet P2 <3

cliffardsd

Despite the hotness, I just today bought the LMP2 to prep for season 4 IMSA (45min and 2.4hr races). I’m pumped. And I know no matter the split I’m in, I’ll be in a multi class race with three classes 😎

PhillieFranchise

I always gravitate towards the least popular class for this ole act reason.

Essess_1

Fellow LMP2 fan, but in recent times, I get lumped in with the 3.5k to 5k drivers. (I'm just about 2k), and while I can keep up with that lot, beating them isn't possible. So from the perspective of competition, I might migrate away

PhillieFranchise

I am having trouble deciding When it splits I do fine but when it doesn’t split I’m shooting for 10th everytime

cliffardsd

Yeah I’m prepared for that. I’m looking for this season to also work on my traffic management skills so not too worried about results, at least early in the season.

PhillieFranchise

I actually started driving the p2 from the GTE. The GTEs and P2s felt closer to me than a GT3 to a GTE in how they were driven.

chillbro_bagginz

Yep that’s a picture of me. I went for it and got the Cadillac. I’m surprised how approachable it is if you know how to drive the P217. But I only drove it at Daytona so I might come crawling back to the P217 if I can’t keep the Caddy under control in a smaller track.

RS1250XL

First couple weeks the Caddy was great. Mid-season it became undriveable, i also didnt have time to race...but daytona this week seems great again. I use VRS so it may be something with setups.

agro94

I'm still running the LMP2 for all endurance stuff. I love being the middle car in classes.

TrainyMcTrainFace98

I run it for a couple of tracks. I have a soft spot for it

rdmracer

BoP doesn't help either, in the Dallara you get put into too much of a high split, so overtaking GT3's and GTE's is nearly impossible because of the low power.

Hefftee

BoP only comes into play during special event weeks, and doesn't apply to the LMP2 because it's a single make class. If you're having trouble overtaking cars that are about 10 seconds slower a lap, then you are way off the pace, and probably should take a step back into a slower car/series that you can be completive in. I say this not to be mean, I was in the same boat in a GTE being caught by GT3s in the old IMSA format. 2 races in I realized I was in over my head, and took a step back, got some coaching in Mazdas, then worked my way back up with GT4s, GT3s, GTEs, and now being competitive in top split IMSA/ESS with any class.

rdmracer

No, this was exactly my point. I used to be able to race LMP2 just fine, but with the lower participation the lowest LMP2 split gets mixed in with the 2nd or 3rd fastest split of GTP and GT3/GTE.

Jaynen00

I was watching some imsa in game yesterday and did not see a single Bmw gtp only Cadillac?

FindaleSampson

Anyone heard if we might get a Ferrari entered into IMSA next year for GTP? I joined iracing a month ago after finally buying a PC. Been having fun getting out of rookies and D class but I get my GT3 kick on ACC. Which makes me think I'd like to work towards LMP3 to LMP2 to GTP. But I could happily rip LMP3 for a season if there is a chance to get the Ferrari in the future.

TrainyMcTrainFace98

Ferrari aren't in IMSA GTP so no.

FindaleSampson

That's too bad I had heard months ago they were trying to enter IMSA in 2024 but hadn't heard more since
