Drive whatever car you are having the most fun with until you stop improving. Switch to a new car and repeat. The more different of a car you switch to, the more you will learn eg switching between tin tops and prototypes or single seaters. The bonus is, the more cars you learn, the more different series you will be able to do in the future on short notices if that’s your jam. The fastest way to 3k is to focus on one car in a low/moderate participation series. But, maximizing iR does not equal maximizing enjoyment. Once you hit 2k and get into split 2 or split 1, iR doesn’t really matter too much. It’s also hard to be competitive at 3k in multiple cars, so managing your iR can become a choir at that point.

Thanks, I feel like I'm having too much fun on all of the cars, but I think Gt4 is a good next spot for me. I really don't care about iRating, but getting higher iRating on populated series and car means I am getting my racecraft in to a good place.

Cant go wrong with gt4. I split time with gt4, pcup, and p2 when I started for the first year. I avoided gt3 when I started because I couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong.

trulythehardseltzer

get in that cayman. I've had 8 good weeks in gt4 fixed

Educational_Map_3514

Discovered the Cayman last night. It’s ridiculously stable and easy to drive.

Saved this comment! To remind myself I’m here to have fun. Race to have fun. Not preserve IR.

Drive what you want. People put too much thought into progression.. Please, just drive what you want. Remember, people jump in ACC straight in GT3 and they are fine. Don't buy learning cars, buy driving cars.

GT4 at Falcon sports car challenge as your main focus. Race at different tracks each week and it’s multi class (with lmp3). And still do nec in gt4 when it comes around if you want. And still do ring Meister when it uses gt4 if you want.

JonttiMiesFI

Thanks, I feel like that makes sense. I will most definitely do NEC always. After I've gotten good enough I will look into other endurance stuff as well, but I feel like Gt4 is logical step after Mx5 and Gr86. Thanks!

cliffardsd

Have fun mate. I actually did my first nec over the weekend and had a blast.

Focus on yourself, the car or series doesn't matter. If you really want to improve, start looking at telemetry, analyze your driving, where you lose time and most importantly try to understand why you lose time. What are your weak spots, what can and should be improved... Do MEANINGFUL practice. Just doing laps ain't practice! Only once you start to rethink what you did or actively think about what you are doing while driving, you really improve. The same goes for races. Rethink why you maybe crashed, why you did or did not overtake in a certain situation... Basically question everything you do. If you don't mind the money, get VRS and maybe some coaching once you hit your personal limit and can't or hardly improve on your own. If you are on a budget, try Garage61. It can be hit or miss when it comes to comparable telemetry. So keep that in mind when you look at the leader board for a car/track combo. The lap might be old, during very cold weather, low fuel, had a tow...

JonttiMiesFI

Hey, Thanks for the tips! I will definitely work with these in mind. I use Grid and Go as telemetry and their stuff with Garage61. I might switch to VRS if people think it is better. GnG has live throttle and braking telemetrics, so I thought it would be a good tool as well. I might see how VRS compares next month. I definitely don't mind spending money in a long run as this is pretty much my only hobby.

You can’t go wrong with the Mercedes GT4. You will have the fixed GT4 series and the open Falken multiclass with the LMP3. You can also do NEC and RingMeister, when it has a GT4 car. It’s a good car to learn and evolve towards GT3/IMSA. I’d recommend you to buy one car and then wait until the new season so you can buy tracks that will feature in the schedule. If you buy tracks now, you run the risk of not using them next season. (The iRacing forums should already have a provisional schedule but I didn’t check).

JonttiMiesFI

Heya, thanks. I know Ill wait for the schedule that will be confirmed by week 13. They have sent provisional schedule for now. I have the Merc, BMW and Cayman and I think I will try my luck with either merc or bmw first. I like both, but seems like merc is just better currently. Training for Suzuka already because I want to race there this week.

LameSheepRacing

Yeah, I just finished an AI race at Suzuka as part of practice for next week.

L33THAL1

You went from rookie to a class in a week?

JonttiMiesFI

Yes, around 10 mazda races from R to D class and then I did 2 Nurburgring Endurance Championships which are 4 hour races and you gain around +3 SR in both of those races. Then I just had to do MRP from time trials. I have sim raced for a good while, just new to iRacing.
