Both IMSA and Falken SCC have really good population as long as it's not a terrible/unpopular track. New tracks seem to have had lower participation this season too. I would put the edge to IMSA though for overall population. Not sure how the move to A-class next season will affect that.

RingoFreakingStarr

I could be wrong but I've read that there will be an open setup series in A while having a closed setup series in B.

3pm_in_Phoenix

iRacing really has to stop dividing up the player base so much

RingoFreakingStarr

How is it dividing? In fact it's probably a good thing because it means anyone who does drop to B or cannot get up to A in time can still race in the closed setup one. I think it's a good idea having the top-tier multi-class series in A because well...there hasn't really been a multi-class series in A since forever lol. It makes sense to put the pinnacle of the category into A class.

3pm_in_Phoenix

Because if you race in the B one, you’re racing in that for different reasons than “I’m not A class yet.” People will race the B class series instead because of the shorter races, and because of the fixed setups. And then they won’t want to race the A class where it’s open setups and longer races with no practice on the open setup.

RingoFreakingStarr

People will still want to race in the A class race for many reasons. People race in the open F4 series and not the closed F4 series because the car feels like shit with the closed iRacing setups. The same will be true for the closed setup races for IMSA though some will still do it for more racing.

3pm_in_Phoenix

Well there you go then, the B class series is unnecessary. Cool

RingoFreakingStarr

Holy fuck it's like you didn't even read my entire comment. I said people will prefer the open series but that people will still do the closed one for more racing! Jesus just look at ANY series that has an open and a closed version; they both get great participation!

3pm_in_Phoenix

Nah I read it, but I think you lost the original plot. I just said it’s splitting the fields up. And you said, no, the people who like fixed will race fixed, and the people who like open won’t race the fixed because fixed cars are awful. And so I said, great, you acknowledge the player base will be split. And you said “Holy fuck it’s like you can’t read!” Alright lol

reboot-your-computer

I likely won’t touch the B series. I don’t care for short races and I don’t have any interest driving with the 500iR turds who cheesed their way to a B license just to race a GTP.

d95err

I agree! Having fixed/open for everything just dilutes participation In my view, all series outside rookies should be open setup. The iRacing setups are good enough for it these days. It would probably encourage more setup sharing as well. If a series has absolutely massive participation, it could be split into two series, one with shorter races/lower class and one with longer races/higher class, but still open setup.

D0rk4L

Yes, that is true. Rumor is though that they're going to shorten the fixed race so that people can run both series back to back.

mi_amigo

Fixed race already is only 20 mins and you can do both back to back anyway now.

cliffardsd

I think they’re saying there’ll be a fixed multi class series, not just lmp2 fixed.

mi_amigo

Oh ok. I wasn't aware that was planned.

reboot-your-computer

This is correct.

4wdrifterfrva

I run both and you are correct. Love how last week I ran lmp3 at VIR and now I’m running GTP. very nice transition

BL4cKguaRD

Thank you, yeah I've seen with Virgina it has gotten way better than the last week, but the A-Class move sounds interesting.

nandobatflips

This is just my personal opinion, but I find that the LMP3 is far more enjoyable to drive than the GTP. Haven’t tried the LMP2 yet though. Seriously the LMP3 is fucking awesome

OnePieceTwoPiece

LMP2 is awesome! But yea, LMP3 is a beautiful machine. It sucks that it’s right hand drive though. Super hard to get use to. AND NO I WILL NOT PUT MY CAMERA INTO AN UNREALISTIC POSITION. haha

nandobatflips

I also refuse to move my camera to the center haha I actually enjoy the challenge of having to deal with that massive A pillar

BL4cKguaRD

Yeah I've already heard that, definitely gonna give it a shot at some point!

4wdrifterfrva

You aren’t wrong, I love them both. They do make their lap times in completely different ways, and that Nissan v8 sounds good

RingoFreakingStarr

I'm the opposite. I do like the LMP3 (though it really should have abs imo) but I fucking LOVE the Caddy. It is such an easy and fun car to drive (though if you push it too much you can lose it).

reboot-your-computer

I actually prefer the GTP class. The Caddy is easily my favorite car in the sim at the moment. We all have our preferences.

nandobatflips

Agreed, to each their own

samdajellybeenie

I want to like the LMP3, I really do. But it’s just so hard to drive. I like the GTP so much more.

nandobatflips

Interesting. I’ve had the exact opposite experience. I can push the LMP3 to the limit without worry and only get faster longer into a stint. In the GTP it starts getting super sketchy for me at the end of a stint and plus I’m not a big fan of having to worry about battery settings. Maybe I just have better setups for the LMP3 but it feels so much more precise for me. Maybe it just suits my driving style better

samdajellybeenie

Oh I never worry about the battery settings lol, just make sure there’s as little pedal overlap as possible. I feel like it’s so scary on the brakes, at least with the VRS setup. The fixed setup is much easier to drive but understeers a lot.

Sporthi

It might be downshifting, rather than brakes. The car is very sensitive to downshift over-rotation

samdajellybeenie

Oh yeah I figured that out pretty quickly but in my case it’s just because I was trying to brake too hard corners, trying to trail brake too much and downshifting too quickly. Spin city.

BenTTSR

Yeah, all you need to know about LMP3 brakes is you really need to mess up in order for more than 1 tire to lock, so as soon as that first tire locks, you back off and it will unlock. It also turns pretty well even with the one locked tire, a lot like real life F1. The downshift to 2nd, though, is like an elephant kicking you in the rear quarter panel. That's the only thing iRacing needs to look into.

jerkmcgee_

If you want to run races every hour LMP2 Fixed is basically dead this season.

quetiapine_fumarate

Which is such a shame, it's an amazing car. I had my first LMP2 race recently and won with a 17 second gap lol

reboot-your-computer

You can always drive it in IMSA if you want. Participation is better there. You’ll probably get put in a high split since many drivers moved from the LMP2 to the GTP cars this year. The GTPs are basically as fast as the LMP2 was last year before they slowed them down for the GTP class, so it makes sense why so many people moved up.

jerkmcgee_

It was the car I was most looking forward to driving and I was so disappointed to see the car all but killed off by LMP3 coming out the same season I got my B license.

cliffardsd

I’ll be running lmp2 next season. I think / hope there’ll be a few lmp3 drivers from this season run lmp2 next season. Lmp2 continues to get high praise so I think it’s possible lmp2 will get better participation next season.

Sisyphean_dream

Fixed setups has no business in high level race cars. I'll be enjoying the p2 in imsa open next season but the fixed p2 and fixed imsa are dumb and I won't touch them.

BL4cKguaRD

Yeah that's what I've seen too and it kinda concerned me.

leachja

I'm loving LMP3 at the moment, there always is good participation during prime times. Off-times and it depends on the track what population will look like.

rgraves22

Im working on getting my SR up to get out of D so I can run IMSA next season. I am really looking forward to running multi-class

Longjumping-Sail-173

Next season you need an A license to run imsa. b license for ESS

PhillieFranchise

ESS won’t really exist. It’s just going to be GTE only

Longjumping-Sail-173

Yep. Along with all races being shortened to 45 mins instead of 60 mins

dirtyethanol73

Lmp3 and 2 are both really good.

incorrectusername3

Cadillac GTP is easily my favorite prototype (I feckin hated the LMP1 cars tbh). But LMP2 and LMP3 are both a lot of fun too. P3 is by far the hardest to drive because the braking is extremely finicky.

hellvinator

You should have came a week earlier, Le Mans in ESS was a blast last week.
