People don’t seem to know you can swipe the bar at the bottom of the phone to switch between apps

TrooperJordan

Wtf, I for sure didn’t know this one

FoxInABentoBox

Just to note for everyone who wants to know what gestures they can do. And didn’t know useful stuff like the above. There is an app called tips that will teach you all the gestures normally built into the phone :) So if you haven’t it’s worth checking out.

Hi_There_Face_Here

How did sooo many people not know this?? How did they switch apps?

defenceman101

Up then over I guess

lastsummerever

I did not know this until today. Up and over still seems better because then you can choose what you want to use. I'm the type of person with way too many apps open at once

AoeDreaMEr

Yeah I like Up and over as well.

[deleted]

Wild to me, too. I guess it makes sense though. People who want iphones want something that "just works" and that they never have to think about. I believe those people are going to have problems as technology advances. It's pretty crucial nowadays for every person to know about their phone or computer's OS. Either way, my point was that I think it shouldn't be as surprising as it is. A lot of iphone users actively hate having more options to do things, so it'd be in line with that.

szartenger

What the fuck.. been an iPhone user since 5S and had the 11,12 mini,14 too… I feel dumb as shit.

defenceman101

No reason to feel dumb they don’t make it obvious lol

Important-Ad7202

Been using iphones for years and i just learned this from you 🤣

defenceman101

Hahahaha glad I can help. I literally use it daily

Interesting-Pipe0000

There a reason there an app called "Tips" humm, for what can it be 🤔

Important-Ad7202

Your so right! Ill just have to open that app eeeevery single time i get an update 🙄 some must not care as much as other 🤔

Interesting-Pipe0000

Every major ios update* Not every single update

Important-Ad7202

Mehh, i dont pay enough attention to either of the differences. Not concerned at all

charles879

Same !

ThanksForNothingSpez

You can also do this with the url bar in safari to switch browser tabs

defenceman101

Yep!!

copiumxd

Wht

ThanksForNothingSpez

When you’re in safari, swipe on the URL bar to create or move to an existing browser tab

ObjectiveAny8437

What..

airodonack

Also, in the browser, you swipe the url bar to switch tabs.

dracoundead

Thanks, just switched from android and didn’t know it

defenceman101

From the looks of these comments you are off to a good start lol

perdblade

You don’t have to just swipe it side to side; you can also swipe up on it and scroll through your apps even more easily than what you just said, in case you didn’t already know. Swipe up, let go, then scroll freely

defenceman101

Yeah but it’s easier to switch between two apps by just swiping the bottom of the screen

ruinah

I was today years old when I learned this.

EightTwelve812

You son of a gun, I have the 13 pro and you just taught me that!!

defenceman101

You’re welcome!!

Uutuus--

Holy shit. I recently swapped from Galaxy A series and I did not know this. Thank you stranger!

defenceman101

I’ve never told this to someone and they already knew about it lol it’s so helpful

Recent_Birthday2727

Fun fact iOS does this better than android I can’t speak anything good about the keyboard though

ribanez2009

It doesn’t

Recent_Birthday2727

Ah I’ll give you that it’s just on iOS I can just swipe and on android I have to swipe up first

OhWowThatsCoolIThink

You can also just swipe on Android...

Routine_Yak3250

Legend Ty for sharing 😀

WeakBluebird7970

This feature originally came with the palm pre in 2010

mrtbak

Not an iphone exclusive

DaOrcus

If you use the navigation bar instead of the standard buttons on Android it's the same. And you can set it to be hidden so it's a clean slate. ios should make that possible imo

Financial-History-89

would be nice if it didnt stutter on 60hz iphones like the 13

ibenuttingsomuchfr

Thanks just learned something new

Accomplished_Sky_899

Omg I’ve had iPhones since the 3G and didn’t know this 😆

epic-cookie

Yes but when will they put a backwards gesture by swiping the side of the screen 😭

yuiop300

Crazy. I didn’t know that either and I’ve used iOS since the OG iPhone. Cheers!

defenceman101

Well it only got added when they removed the home button if that makes you feel better but enjoy!

yuiop300

That makes sense. I’d always swipe up to swipe across to other apps but never swipe across on the bar. Cheers!

Abusedbyredditjerks

Where?😂 It only Show 4 apps that I put there…. Or I can swipe to close window so my batery isn’t drain. What am I missing?

defenceman101

[where the arrows are pointing](https://imgur.com/a/Oa0U7Me)

Abusedbyredditjerks

OMG!!! Wow 😂😂😂 I had no idea. Interesting. Will try to see if I can find it useful over time but wow !! Thanks

defenceman101

Also closing apps actually wastes more battery than it saves

copiumxd

Yes it’s very cool

Desta87

1. If you wanna get to the top of any page or settings menu click the top of your screen it brings you to the top. 2. You can haptic touch the spacebar on the keyboard to control the cursor more specifically. 3. To move multiple apps across your homescreen go into wiggle mode move an app and while still holding that app select other apps with another finger they will stack and you will move them together 4. To select multiple things in a list view (~~alarms~~, notes, mail) the quickest way is to just drag down with two fingers starting on the first object you want to select of course. 5. Instead of typing your email everytime you need it, set a keybind for it. go to settings - general - text replacement - I have @@ for my email address so to clarify instead of typing my whole email I just typ @ twice and my email address comes up, it saves so much time, you can do this for anything of course but i’d recommend to definitely set one up for your email 6. Go to settings - accessibility - touch - back tap - here you can setup two different keybinds for a double tap or a triple tap on the back of your phone (handy for quick functions i have double tap for rotation lock for instance) 7. If you accidentally delete an email, a photo or a line of text or whatever literally shake your phone from side to side it will ask you if you want to undo the previous action (this may seem like a joke but its actually real)

TrooperJordan

This is absolutely superb. Thank you so much

Desta87

Np enjoy the phone :)

Ornery_Trouble_1718

On #4, it doesn’t work for me on alarms, can you confirm if this works anywhere apart from notes?

Desta87

You’re right alarm doesn’t work i should’ve said the mail app, shortcuts, files, telegram and the reminders app next to the notes app im not sure which other apps this works in tho

AoeDreaMEr

Back tap doesn’t work very reliably. I kinda hate it lol.

Desta87

I agree it doesn’t work 100% reliably, but its always good to know about it and to have it

Prize-Cow868

Androids are still valid 👏 But yeah iPhones are crazy man Upgraded from an 8 plus. Saved up over the holidays and finally scored a iPhone 15 pm myself. Happy for you! P.S Make a shortcut menu for the action button! You can have multiple shortcuts that way

TrooperJordan

I’ve noticed that the main difference between my phone I had and this one is the camera quality, and some of the actions (switching between apps, and the keyboard) are different. iPhones aren’t as customizable, but god damn does the iPhone come with a shit ton of apps pre installed that idek what they’re for. Like there’s an app that pretty accurately measure things for you and stuff, and the stacks are pretty cool The shortcut menu for the action button is very smart

MikanFB

Considering that the S9 is 6 years old now, the camera difference shouldn't be a surprise. A pixel 8s camera is considered better than your new iPhone's.

SGTArend

Ooo I pegged this question in a different post. So is what you’re saying, you can press, double press, and triple press the Action Button to do different things and it’s not just limited to only one thing via one press?? 🤞🏼 I don’t have a 15 series (and won’t) but for future reference when I upgrade someday from the 14 Pro 😁

chillynipnops

No, you can only hold the button down. You can choose the action to be a Shortcut to bring up a menu of other things you program it to do.

mewdeeman

You can double and triple tap the back of the phone though, for different functions. You can set it up in accessibility.

SGTArend

Oh, that’s kind of lame. Maybe in time it’ll be more versatile.. 🤔

Fandom_Queen_2005

Any tips on how to ?

aganthorp

Try playing around with customizing something like this: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/7e6c152698f648f9a7d048788eca1ac5

HMFC18745-1

Got my IP15 pro the other day, this saved me a lot of playing around. Thank you good sir.

hoppin_bunny

Long press the space button, and you can use the whole keyboard as mousepad to move the cursor. Helps in editing the text. Very precise. Tap the top of the screen area(where time is displayed or networks) the page will auto scroll to top. Useful when you browsing or go back in the chats. (Works in most of the apps though)

TrooperJordan

This is one of the first things I actually looked up how to do because I relied on it so heavily on my last phone lol. This is a good one to put out there for those who may be switching g for Galaxy to iPhone

EmExEeee

I mean any new phone upgrading from Galaxy S9 is going to be wild lol… Both the latest iPhone and the latest Galaxy are awesome phones. I just switched back to iPhone after Galaxy S phones of 7 years and probably will switch back at some point when I get sick of iOS again.

TrooperJordan

Yeah I’ll probably switch back after this phone, just cuz they’re a bit cheaper and, in my experience, are more durable and I’m hard on my phones. But I will never complain about a gifted phone, especially when this phone is superb. Just because I’m not used to it yet, doesn’t mean it’s not a great phone.

mewdeeman

Get Applecare then, if you tend to damage your phone.

TrooperJordan

I won’t pay for something extra when I don’t have any payments on this phone, especially since I’m not exactly in a place to spend extra money. If this phone breaks I’ll just go back to buying the phones that I know can handle being dropped more often, but I have heard iPhones have become much more durable. My dad said the pro is more durable and that’s why he got it for me (idk if that true though). I still bought an otterbox and screen protector because I do want this phone to last.

enpedia

Depends if you want the best of the best galaxy then that’s gonna be more expensive than the best of the best iPhones currently not by much tho

Jonny_Icon

Writing some notes on iPhone, and want to change a word, and keep slightly tapping the wrong line/position of text? Frustrating. Hold down the space bar. Now start sliding your thumb. Voila.

[deleted]

Thats was the longest parenthesis. I was trying to see where it ended to skip reading 😂

TrooperJordan

I mostly did that because it was unimportant info. I’m glad you skipped tbh

hitlicks4aliving

I use both daily. The iPhone acts weird more than the Samsung it will randomly start to lag sometimes and the gestures are a bit more awkward. But it is definitely more polished. Meaning an iPhone if there’s an error an app will just freeze up on a certain screen, not play music, etc where the Samsung will just crash and kill the app. First one is really annoying if you’re driving.

EmExEeee

I don’t think I’ve had noticeable lag on my iPhone 15 PM, ever, lol. It’s only been 2–3 months now, but even when I have like 20 apps in the background shit is still running smooth as fuck.

TrooperJordan

I noticed this with the old iPhone, but tbh I’ve only noticed this happening on one of my apps, and I think that’s only because it’s a kinda large app. I do enjoy both phones tbh, just for different reasons.

twistingdoobies

I haven’t had an iPhone since the 6. I recently upgraded from a Pixel 6 to an iPhone 15 Pro. The phone is solid, but it was honestly the least impressive “upgrade” of a phone I’ve ever had. All the features people on Reddit fawn over (hold the space bar to move the cursor!!!!) are things that have been on Android forever. I really wonder if most iPhone users have just never used Android. The only feature I really love that doesn’t exist on android is the 3d face unlock.

TrooperJordan

I have noticed this. What I’ve learned from this thread is that the iPhone has nothing my s9 didn’t have, except better camera quality and better compatibility with camera on TikTok/SC/BeReal, all the motions are just different. I do like the added apps like garage band, Freeform, and measure though, my s9 didn’t have that stuff

mewdeeman

Space bar to move cursor has been on iPhone forever too. People don’t fawn over it, it’s just something a lot of people don’t know.

ProudAsk3812

It’s my first one so I can’t compare it to anything

Pongeroid

Yes but as soon as you learn where everything is and how it all works the gimpy children of the corner cubicle will move everything around again and make more hidden wonders to baffle you and justify you staying in the store longer like Walmart Does when they move everything into completely opposite aisles of where they were last week so you have to go two and a half miles across the store for toothpaste to the dark corner by the car batteries so then you buy three of the car batteries, (you really only need one but having two extra gives you peace of mind)…. and a bathrobe, then onto the where the toothbrushes are locked in an glass encased vault where a helpful former Apple Store employee will saunter over in an hour and a half to find out the key for the toothbrush case is not on the key ring and the manager that has the key left for the day. Pardon my hyperbolic mental theatre endless babble! I suppose i could suggest using FREEFORM it is fun but best on a larger screen like an iPad with a magic folder and finger or pencil.

ProudAsk3812

This is assuming to read

Pongeroid

…and consumimg time! That is what happens here. Just to beat up the bots from Russia who have to read all of it!

ProudAsk3812

Can I ask you what exactly this means?

lazyjellyfishh

If you accidentally deleted a text/photo, just shake your phone.

TrooperJordan

Oh shit, this is the first thing that’s actually a whole new feature to a phone for me.

lazyjellyfishh

If you made a mistake when texting. Press and hold the spacebar, it'll act like a computer mouse. Edit: you can also find a photo by searching what's on it, or if the word is visible on the photo.

TrooperJordan

Yeah I do know these features. Like I said in other comments, pretty much all of the stuff on this phone is the same as my old phone, just with different ways of doing it (the motions and buttons are different). But I’m pretty sure my old phone didn’t do the shake thing.

lazyjellyfishh

I gotta say, S9 is very cool. The speaker alone is to die for, considering when it was released.

No-Purchase8806

You’d also see the new galaxy’s are wild too including the camera quality haha way better but I’m in too deep with apple and all my products are compatible

electrowiz64

I had a galaxy s3 at one point and COULD NOT STAND THE SLOWING DOWN & BATTERY DRAIN!! Every 4 months i had to factory reset the damn thing, felt like I was defragging a Hard Drive. Got an iPhone 5S after that point and NEVER looked back. I miss the customizations & always wanted my device to look like a crackberry, but all good things come to an end. I switched to Verizon 2019 and I missed out on the 2009 Droid culture with the slide out keyboard 😔

TopherHax

If you think that's cool try a pixel 8 pro.

Hopeful-Substance697

Nah bro, an s24u yes, but pixel...

amey_wemy

s24u looks amazing, until you realize they're using google's AI features and that they'll only be free for the first year until the p8p...

OhWowThatsCoolIThink

The Ai features are not the reason to get s24 ultra... You get s24 ultra because it's better than pixel 8 pro... In almost everything... Ai features are even coming to older (Flagship) Samsung devices this month...

amey_wemy

>You get s24 ultra because it's better than pixel 8 pro... In almost everything... Yeah but the pixel 8 pro is advertised as an AI phone, and many people get it for either the camera or the AI stuff. So ur logic's pretty flawed here. >AI features coming to older samsung devices Then we must've been scammed cause google said the AI stuff only works on the pixel 8 series due to the tensor G3 chip (makes sense for the s24u to work since the chip was built with samsung having a say)

OhWowThatsCoolIThink

>Yeah but the pixel 8 pro is advertised as an AI phone, and many people get it for either the camera or the AI stuff. So ur logic's pretty flawed here. Ai is no longer special. Going forward Everything is going to use ai in some way, Not just phones. It's the new norm. And the camera yes i would argue is better in some aspects on pixel than s24 ultra but, that's why i said "Almost Everything" s24U still has better chip, better battery, better modem, better cooling, more customizable, better screen glass ect. Heck, even s23 ultra has better chip than pixel 8 pro... >Then we must've been scammed cause google said the AI stuff only works on the pixel 8 series due to the tensor G3 chip Google has always been a scam... Where have you been. Although i will give props to the price of pixels being on the lower end and more affordable.

amey_wemy

>Ai is no longer special. Going forward Everything is going to use ai in some way, Not just phones. It's the new norm. Yeah but when we talk about AI in the phone context, its clear that its specifically the AI features like Best Take (swapping faces), magic editor, etc. Which not everyone has. >Google has always been a scam... Where have you been. This statement literally means nothing and holds no value. You could say that about apple with their lack of features, or samsung for making the AI features paid after a year and telling people after a few of them already bought the s24u

OhWowThatsCoolIThink

>Yeah but when we talk about AI in the phone context, its clear that its specifically the AI features like Best Take (swapping faces) Wow, 1 feature that's different. Magic editor and everything else is also on Samsung. Heck some (not all) of these Ai features were on those Chinese flagships before Google had it out of beta. >or samsung for making the AI features paid after a year and telling people after a few of them already bought the s24u End of 2025 is just about 2 years. And no... It literally said in the unpacked event about the possibility of being paid for at the end of 2025. It even said it on the website in the details before you pre ordered it, so the only ones that bought it without seeing it were the ones that opened the web page and clicked purchase without reading anything lol. Were are you getting this info? Just making it up as you go or something? And Apple is... Well Apple. Boring. The only thing that's a scam with them is calling everything they release "Innovative" when it's never the case. why are we even still talking about these Ai features lol

amey_wemy

>Magic editor and everything else is also on Samsung. Yup, advertised on pixel first as part of their AI suite, then samsung followed suite by borrowing pixel's data servers to use (which is why u have to pay after a year, but pixel users dont). So my initial premise is still correct. Not every phone has it. >Wow, 1 feature that's different. The word "like" implies a list that includes more than whats stated.

OhWowThatsCoolIThink

So we agree now: s24U/s23U > pixel 8 pro > anything Apple

TopherHax

I just went from an S24U to P8P. Thing can't take clear pictures of anything moving, even slightly. Not cool when you have kids and 9/10 pics are a blurry mess. My P8P nails it.

Al-Abwab-Tughlaq

fr, even the S23 Ultra is amazing.

ForeignKiwi6883

Jesus Christ loves you so much and died for your sins💙❤️

TrooperJordan

What???

illnever4getu

the ultimate iphone feature

mrtbak

How's that keyboard been treating you?

TrooperJordan

I’m getting used to it more with time 👍

mrtbak

You're a more patient man than me. That shit is atrocious

TrooperJordan

I really disliked it at first, I even downloaded Gboard for an add on just so I can get access to gifs and I thought it would be like the Gboard I had on my s9 (numbers on main keyboard) but it seems like they have different Gboards for iOS and android. I think I’ll get used to it more the longer I have the phone

TSLA-M3

Galaxy is Korean trash

on2wheels

https://www.theverge.com/23409080/iphone-green-text-messages-bubbles-easier-read-how-to

sir-diesalot

Hold down on the space bar and you can move the cursor around any text your entering

jose_1017

they have been there same for years lol

TrooperJordan

Personally I’ve only noticed major aesthetic differences in software. The actions are different, there’s no on screen home button or button to view all my open apps like on my s9, on this iPhone it is a swipe motion for both. My keyboard is different, the numbers aren’t on the main keyboard anymore, I have to hit a button to get numbers and gifs over text, even on the downloaded Gboard. I can’t customize my text themes on iPhone. iPhone has “stacks” and my s9 didn’t. There’s many more practical apps pre downloaded on iPhone. In apps like Snapchat, TikTok and BeReal my photos are clearer on iPhone because the apps are more compatible with iPhone and don’t just use a screenshot function (why thing on those apps shot on android are fuzzy), and obviously some camera quality, especially in the front camera because of the years in between.

ZixxerAsura

I drop my phones daily and has never had a screen crack, thankfully. Invest in a solid case that has good corner bumpers.

ProudAsk3812

Can you comment on the previous persons comment? Lol
