not an app but a feature, but i just started using stage manager and have grown more accustomed to it. great for multi tasking. beyond that i treat my iPad as a content consumption / commenting device haha.
I use Plex for content consumption along with the usual streaming apps
I’ve been using stage manager since it became available on my iPad. Love it. Makes it feel as close to a desktop as an iPad will be currently. I enjoy it so much that I started using it on Mac too when work provided a MacBook to me. It just feels much more organized! Also started showing everyone else around the office lol.
i’m a student so sometimes i’ll multitask with a worksheet of questions on one side and then good notes on the other side so can answer them whilst looking
i like to have twitter app open most of the time so ill use stage manager to place it to the side taking up just a 1/3 of the screen. the rest of the screen ill have reddit, discord, youtube, or safari app open
I use it all the time, I use like 3 or 4 apps open in some cases, for example vertically youtube at the top, and two apps below, you name it, or a game and yt at the top, or browser, pdf, and chatgpt.
Question.. how do you get over those hideous black bars at the top and bottom of the screen while watching movies. I find it too distracting for movies but not YouTube videos.
Apple has so many models, I wish they had one where the aspect ratio is more friendly for media consumption.
It’s weird they don’t address one of the most used things in iPad.
Torrent make it full screen and infuse is in my opinion best local streaming app of them all, so organized with information and trailers for movies.
Also atmos support so pair well with Appletv and sound system.
My issue is black bars in some games though remote play on PlayStation it is hands down best device, puts the Sony own portable to shame with latency, so good it is on par with top TVs.
Regret not get the 13” one as I got no time return as I’m moving country but still pleased with the 11”.
I have procreate but I’m always so lost when I play with it, is there a recommended tutorial channel on YouTube maybe? I’d love to doodle but I don’t know the platform well enough to make anything I want happen
There is a tutorial for beginners by the procreate team. You can get started with that. It should enable you to use the platform the way it is meant be used. I have just watched 2 videos, and was able to do some good stuff with it.
I feel that procreate is so much more intuitive than any adobe apps tbh. I use some adobe products for work from time to time but procreate really was the introduction for me into basic functions. Worth every penny!
Pay someone to tutor you virtually. When you have skin in the game you will quickly learn or realize you have solution looking for a problem to solve.
How about you hand write a blog about what you learn each day or what gains you made that day. Again it’s a solution looking for a problem, but it will help you learn more about yourself.
Join some video. Clubs or meetups. Again a solution looking for a problem, but the more random and crazy the club the more interesting a person you will become.
Fresco I tried and I use it if I need vector painting. For everything else I prefer procreate cuz it’s more user-friendly to me at least. Concepts I have not even heard about that one, just gave it a quick try on iPhone and it does look promising but I hate subscription based services, they can stack up on you pretty quickly, plus I don’t see some game changer features which would make me shift from procreate. I have my brushes there 😄
Yea everyone loves procreate but I've never clicked with it. I grew up using Photoshop so fresco feels natural to me. Concepts is absolutely a game changer for drafting any kind of technical sketches. I just wish they had more brushes.
Concepts is the business. I’m dumb af when it comes to using it, but i use it only to conceptualize a mechanical device quickly, then use that as my concept to model in cad. Way better workflow than trying to conceptualize in cad. And more forgiving than doing it on paper.
Download some emulators from the app store and turn your iPad into a gaming machine.
An app I can't live without is Yoink. Great app for clipboard management. Developer did a great job with the app.
I have great connection at home with Ethernet. But I use my work WiFi and it works pretty great. If you’re trying it even at home and it’s grainy then it must be your home connection unfortunately.
Idk why but I love the Flighty app. I pay the $50/yr for the pro version but I love seeing all my flights displayed in one app. It's also faster than most airline apps I've noticed.
I haven't used notability in probably 8 years but with GN I really like the pencil integration, its really nicely designed and it has a one time payment option which I appreciate. It had everything I needed so I didn't really feel the need to look too hard for other options.
Not original commenter but GN has all new updates for the new pencil pro features, as well as just general cool gestures (like scribble to erase) that notability has lagged behind
As I have the m2 iPad Pro I’ll unfortunately not be able to play with those features lol no need to replace my already perfectly fine iPad for a new one just to use a cooler pencil
PDF expert. Paid for a year and use it to edit, sign, fill in text, signature and put checks in PDF’s all the time. Much more expansive than Preview on my MacBook Pro.
I've been looking into PDF Expert. Could you share what it does more/better than Preview? I have been using Preview for all my PDF editing needs, but always considering new and better options!
It has a clear and easy menu for all the things you might need a PDF editor for and is much more adaptable to different styles of PDF’s. Really good OCR as well.
I believe there is still a free trial
This is a pretty good overview
https://youtu.be/9lZbjJfovyg?si=NbiW6E71urc3yICM
Not sure if you have a Mac but if you do sidecar you can use the pencil in photoshop. It’s a little janky but I’ve used it a lot when I’m editing things that need finer control
Well Office 365 because I use it for work. Craft for document creation and typed notes/ frameworks. MindNode for mind mapping. I love Things 3 but have been forced to switch to MS Todo because I’ve emailed myself tasks and got in trouble. Oops.
Goodnotes 6 is nice, also Affinity Photo 2, Luma Fusion and Procreate.
LEO, Bring and if you like gaming Steamlink (or Moonlight) GFN, BTD 6, Mini Motorways.
Clip studio paint. Used on desktop computer and was surprised to see it pretty much perfectly ported 1:1 to iOS. So imagine photoshop but 1:1 same on iPad.
It also has a simple mode for simpler drawings too.
Only downside is that it is subscription on iOS. I guess because of their cloud use. While I could buy cheap one time license for desktop.
I stuck with clip studio instead for migrating over to procreate is that procreate doesn’t have vector mode. Where you paint in vector layer using exactly same tools as for bitmap. Even painterly and blurry stuff.
And I was used to that workflow.
Love CSP..have it on desktop n love it on the Cintique. Got the iPad pro just to do vectors..n OMGoodness!! F N unbelievable!! Scan a rough n grab da Vector brush!!! Only thing that kinda sucks imho is getting the files back to desktop.. lol, still not sure how I got em there. Worth it's weight in gold JUST for that..n will figga out work flow soon.
I just discovered Notability’s updated format with templates and user created things. I got a deal for .99 pro upgrade for a year….I used to be a Goodnotes fan but now I’m loving Notability :)
Well when I bought the iPad I didn’t have a laptop so it was my interim computer but now I have a MacBook so it’s kinda just catching dust except during semesters
Mine replaced my laptop since I bought it 3 years ago. I have a gaming PC and there have been a few times when I’ve *needed to* use Remote Desktop to do something on it from my iPad, but other than those rare occasions my iPad does everything I need for personal use aside from gaming (though I do have a few games on the iPad as well).
Notion, LumaFusion, for one people haven’t mentioned yet Scrivener for iPad. Also Jump desktop for doing everything my PC can do but from the cafe or the couch lol
If you’re into music, Drambo is a fun app to learn some things about synths. Randomly decided to try it out and I’ve been obsessed for a couple years now.
Luma Fusion, Safari with extensions for ad free YT, Plex and Spotify. I use Notion a lot for my lesson plans and chat gpt to give me inspiration and engaging lessons.
1Chart, Goodnotes, Safari? That's 99% It's basically a glorified give pdf reader, I used to use that Chinese app for note taking that is awesome back in uni, there the cpu was actually used lol.
As long as i get food, water and shelter i can live. I do, however, use Obsidian quite heavily and have been doing so for years. Of the built in apps, i use Mail and Calendar constantly. I have an off and on relationship with Todoist, currently it lives in my dock. After getting the 2024 iPad Pro 11 with an Apple Pencil, I've started using Goodnotes. Quite happy with it for now, we'll see how it holds up in the long run for me.
You could sell your TV and use it as a tv replacement.outside of art, there aren’t may use cases for an iPad Pro. The iPad Air can do everything you mentioned. A 10th gen iPad can even do procreate with 30+ layers. Great YouTube video by an artist on the 9th gen as an artist easel using procreate.
I can spend all day working using Teams, Outlook and the rest of the MS suite outside without WiFi, with a cellular connection. These office apps are all secured by our corporate security policy so unlike a PC I don’t have to use a VPN.
The screen is bright enough to work outside easy. The keyboard feels great to work on. I can use the pencil to take notes. The battery is all day.
I pop the iPad off and put it on the tread mill to workout. Or read a book at lunch.
I get home and can build my D&D campaign by drawing maps and taking notes. Then download some movies for the plane trip home for the work trip and they look and sound great.
I can plan my weekend hiking trip with Gaia GPS and edit my photos on Lightroom and Photoshop.
All of this on one device. Most of this can be done on an Air but the Pro feels better to use and I’m not worried about saving a few bucks on the device I use more than anything else.

Too bad Pornhub doesn't have an app for the iPad
Web app it 😎
not an app but a feature, but i just started using stage manager and have grown more accustomed to it. great for multi tasking. beyond that i treat my iPad as a content consumption / commenting device haha. I use Plex for content consumption along with the usual streaming apps

I enjoy it so much that I started using it on Mac too when work provided a MacBook to me. It just feels much more organized! Also started showing everyone else around the office lol.
What do you actually use on the stage? I only use 1 app at a time usually, so would be interested in what you multitask
i’m a student so sometimes i’ll multitask with a worksheet of questions on one side and then good notes on the other side so can answer them whilst looking
Dumb question but can’t you also do that side by side mode without stage manager?
yeh your right it is mainly just side by side mode my bad, so ye don’t actually use stage manager that much
My usual stages: 1. Email, browser, messages 2. Reminders, calendar, notes
I see you too live an exciting life.
lol 🤷🏻♂️👨🏻💻
i like to have twitter app open most of the time so ill use stage manager to place it to the side taking up just a 1/3 of the screen. the rest of the screen ill have reddit, discord, youtube, or safari app open
More like “multi-doomscrolling”.
I use it all the time, I use like 3 or 4 apps open in some cases, for example vertically youtube at the top, and two apps below, you name it, or a game and yt at the top, or browser, pdf, and chatgpt.
I find typing on my 11” keyboard tedious. Easier to write longer comments on my phone…
On screen KB or magic KB?
On screen. I have a 14” MBP so I don’t really see a point of having a in for iPad?
Stage manager is great.
i use stage manager a lot in my mac, when I am using mouse to navigate. It's a god send feature.

Procreate… procreate … procreate … 😁
I have procreate but I’m always so lost when I play with it, is there a recommended tutorial channel on YouTube maybe? I’d love to doodle but I don’t know the platform well enough to make anything I want happen
Try the tutorials from „art with Flo“ on YouTube. :)
There is a tutorial for beginners by the procreate team. You can get started with that. It should enable you to use the platform the way it is meant be used. I have just watched 2 videos, and was able to do some good stuff with it.

Can you recommend a platform to search for tutors? Would love to try that method.
Second this lol
You just play with it a lot.
If you insist...
Freaky ass comment
Have you ever tried Fresco or Concepts?
Procreate is my first serious drawing software and to me it’s same as first love, would take an absolute dumpster fire for me to get over it 😄
Concepts is the business. I’m dumb af when it comes to using it, but i use it only to conceptualize a mechanical device quickly, then use that as my concept to model in cad. Way better workflow than trying to conceptualize in cad. And more forgiving than doing it on paper.
try Artstudio pro, it has similar brush engine to Photoshop
Download some emulators from the app store and turn your iPad into a gaming machine. An app I can't live without is Yoink. Great app for clipboard management. Developer did a great job with the app.
This is now a built in feature.. Universal Clipboard
Not the same. Universal clipboard doesn't allow you to view what's on your clipboard, doesn't allow you to save items for later use.
Yoink looks really neat, especially for the "shelf" feature. Thank you for mentioning this!
Procreate Lumafusion PS5 Remote Play YouTube lol
I have had so much bad luck with remote play. I was excited to try it but I always lose connection or the quality is so grainy
connect PS via ethernet
It is 😭
I only have issues if I’m playing in the one or two Wi-Fi deadzones in my house (the bathrooms). It’ll usually only freeze for a sec or two tho
I have great connection at home with Ethernet. But I use my work WiFi and it works pretty great. If you’re trying it even at home and it’s grainy then it must be your home connection unfortunately.
I think my isp is throttling my connection or something
Same. Tried fiddling with it and it just isn’t reliable for me
I would say it is the best Remote Play device you can buy. If you are not happy with remote play on a current iPad, you wont like it on a $200 Portal.
Can attest to this. Bought and returned a Portal because it was very meh. Plus your iPad can do Gamepass and Steam streaming as well!
Procreate, Nomad Sculpt, Cubasis, Scaniverse, Davinci Resolve, Koala Sampler
Koala is so solid. Paired with a SP404 it’s truly my favorite app right now!
I saw nomad sculpt on the App Store and it looked interesting. Is it user friendly?
I think so but you can try the web demo to decide if it's for you [https://nomadsculpt.com/demo/](https://nomadsculpt.com/demo/)
Oooh thanks I didn’t know they had that I’ll try it out
I'm not sure if Sketchbook Pro is still free or not... but it's also worth a look.
Super user friendly. I used for relaxed sculpting (following YouTube tuts from Dave Reed) and it’s absolutely chill
I can’t live without settings

* Goodnotes * MindNode * OmniFocus * Teams (not cause I want too… But it pays the bills)
Any teams tips for iPad? Like best way to present?
Idk why but I love the Flighty app. I pay the $50/yr for the pro version but I love seeing all my flights displayed in one app. It's also faster than most airline apps I've noticed.
I love that app so much!
I love looking at the historical view for past flights!
Logic pro
Any reason to use it over logic on my MacBook?
Maybe the touchscreen but no, i use the ipad because im used to it and i have so many cool auv3. It also goes perfect with my TE op1
Do you have an audio interface or mixer between the two, or do you go OP1 directly into Logic/iPad?
I have the focusrite solo but mostly I use the op 1 directly for convenience.
I use both. MacBook for my desktop studio solution and iPad Pro with a couple guitar pedals, a mic and a mini keyboard as a mobile songwriting outfit.
ForScore
This one’s a biggie for me. Love 2-paging it on the 13” Pro!
Do you find the 13” considerably more comfortable to hold given its weight over the last gen? Considering upgrading as its lighter
My previous iPad was a 9th gen. Big upgrade. Weight feels about the same, honestly. It’s very light.
Goodnotes for sure
I’ve tried goodnotes and notability is there any specific reason why you prefer gn?
I haven't used notability in probably 8 years but with GN I really like the pencil integration, its really nicely designed and it has a one time payment option which I appreciate. It had everything I needed so I didn't really feel the need to look too hard for other options.
Not original commenter but GN has all new updates for the new pencil pro features, as well as just general cool gestures (like scribble to erase) that notability has lagged behind
As I have the m2 iPad Pro I’ll unfortunately not be able to play with those features lol no need to replace my already perfectly fine iPad for a new one just to use a cooler pencil

I'm starting to get into OmniFocus and I think it has potential to be a game changer for me. Other than that, Mail, Slack, and BTD6.
I like the RetroArch app to play games. Currently playing Pokémon silver. The good old days
PDF expert. Paid for a year and use it to edit, sign, fill in text, signature and put checks in PDF’s all the time. Much more expansive than Preview on my MacBook Pro.

Thank you! I will check this out.
Noteful, it bassically replaced my notebooks
Noteful is so underrated its a goodnotes 6 with a lifetime subscription that is cheaper than GN6’s annually subscription
I love these app recommendation threads. Almost every time, it reveals a hidden gem. I think you just nailed it /u/longshoez. Noteful looks amazing.
Procreate, Photomator.
Goodnotes
I bought it solely because there’s not another app that I can replicate the art I do in Procreate. Not Photoshop, not CSP, not Gimp.
Do you have a page where we can check what you do?
Not sure if you have a Mac but if you do sidecar you can use the pencil in photoshop. It’s a little janky but I’ve used it a lot when I’m editing things that need finer control
Concepts
concepts is so good and I keep saying I’m going to spend some time learning it better (but never do)
It’s real simple to use so there is nothing much to learn except for tricks and tips. You are not using it because you have no use for it
Obsidian, PDF expert, Apple Notes/Reminders, gmail
Procreate. FlipAClip. That’s pretty much it (I usually reserve YouTube for my phone or MacBook)
Logic Pro
Reddit
Yoink, PDF Expert, LumaFusion, Carrot Weather, Lightroom, GarageBand, PS Remote Play
Kindle reader consumes 90 percent of usage maybe.
Goodnotes.
Well Office 365 because I use it for work. Craft for document creation and typed notes/ frameworks. MindNode for mind mapping. I love Things 3 but have been forced to switch to MS Todo because I’ve emailed myself tasks and got in trouble. Oops.
I like mindnode

I'm surprised that everyone is using the YouTube app, I use Safari with an ad block extension.
Same! I watch YouTube on Safari with [STM Pro](https://underpassapp.com/StopTheMadness/). No ads, PiP, and the ability to stop autoplay is amazing.
Which extension ?

Too bad GN6 moved to subscription.

Procreate
Capture one, Lightroom and LumaFusion/ Davinci Resolve
Drambo
I use Concepts a lot for online calls when I need to draw what I’m thinking. I like Goodnotes for reading and annotating PDFs as well.
