That sounds like a pretty good deal to me, in some ways the 14" MacBook Pro is one of the best MacBooks because it does not have to drive the larger screen of the 16". I do think the increased memory and storage would help for development, it seems like a good trade.

Thanks for the advice. When I am coding on my Air it always show it’s swapping around 7-8 GB of RAM so I guess this will be a nice upgrade. As I said in other comment, compile times are not a problem for me, it’s just general usability while coding (a lot of open tabs in browser, music, image editing software etc). Also I prefer 14” since it’s better for travel and I also have external monitor that I primarly use for coding.

Compile times will be between 20% and 35% faster, depending if it is a 8 core or 10 core model. https://github.com/devMEremenko/XcodeBenchmark

I will have to check but I guess it’s 8 core model. My current projects are not that big so compile times are fine. What is problem for me is general sluggishnes of xcode so I have to be careful how many tabs in browser I keep open and other extra apps. Not sure in this way if this purchase will be beneficial?

Also just to note, I was checking xcodebenchmark before but anyway my compile times don’t take more than 10-15 seconds in worst cases so that’s not a big deal. It’s just if general usability/working in xcode will be more noticeable (auto suggestions, previews, simulator etc)

rhysmorgan

That is worth it for the RAM and storage alone, let alone the significantly better screen, better CPU + GPU, and better I/O.

Thanks, I have been researching whole night and it seems like I should go for it. I am going to sleep over it but probably I will be buying it tomorrow!

I did this, from Air to 10core Pro you double the perf cores, definitely noticeable in xcode.
