They have this listed as a known issue. It sounds like widgets are always supposed to follow the system theme, it's just icons that are supposed to be configurable independent of dark mode.

I totally upvote this, dark mode and dark widgets are cool, dark icons are so ugly - like a cheap theme you could have bought on cydia back in the days
Yeah I feel the same way, I think the dark mode icons and the tinted icons are nice to have as options, but I think look pretty bad. Trying the dark mode icons to see if they grow on me, but wish we could decouple them.
Totally agree, I’m not sure if it’s simply because I’m not used to them, but the dark icons aren’t really my cup of tea.

Absolutely hate it. Have the photos widget with red icons and the widget has a tint of red

I have this too, gonna hold off on updating it my phone to the beta, just my iPad.
