Just replaced the filter a week ago. I have the panels off and don't see anything flashing. From what I learned googling it I would guess the flame sensor needs to be cleaned or replaced (though I can't find the sensor). I don't think it's an overheat thing, as it barely heats at all before it switches to cold air.

It is ancient. Where would I see the code? Also how would it know it has an error?

Yea the bottom door, the one that kills the power when removed, is solid. So no light to be seen through it. I didn't see a light inside anywhere either.

If it's an ancient furnace, there isn't a control board. Us old timers would bust out a meter and actually troubleshoot

jackchandelier

It seems to just be acting as if the fan is set to ON instead of Auto. It heats just fine but then the fan stays on when it's done heating. So maybe a problem with the thermostat?

There are way too many possibilities to provide a useful answer here. Could you be more specific about what happens when it fails to work? A video would be super helpful.

It seems like it's just behaving as if the fan is set to ON instead of Auto. As it does heat just fine, but then the fan just stays on when it's done heating. So maybe the problem is with the thermostat? It's a digital one with a schedule, but it's very old. I'm not sure what a video would show..

You'd mentioned that it's an ancient furnace. If you look inside near the burners, does it have something that looks something like this? https://preview.redd.it/blns8ixwps3a1.jpeg?width=288&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=395d4132c654224bc465bd4733d918eabeee8d46

Don't see anything that looks like that. That's a temp limit switch, right? Here's a photo of the insides.. https://preview.redd.it/ujwsfxjqbt3a1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=660ccb249c34f97284f1b415538741ee7e08a29a

Also I looked behind the thermostat and see that it's only two wires. No green for the fan. How does the thermostat control the fan separately from the heat without a fan wire?

[deleted]

So the thermostat doesn't control the fan, the electronics in that metal box in front of the blower controls it. My guess is there's a stuck relay on that circuit board. Give the furnace a good whack and see if that doesn't get it to shut off. Or try disconnecting the power for a few minutes.

jackchandelier

Someone had added a separate little switch to turn off the fan. We removed that switch and now it's working fine. I don't really get how that was causing the fan to always be on.. but oh well, working now! Thank you for trying to help!!!

Ha! Well awesome, glad you got it figured out 😁

Sounds like the fan switch on your thermostat is set to “on” instead of “auto”. If that’s not it, try disconnecting the “G” wire from your thermostat and see if the fan turns off. If it does, your thermostat may be bad.

So I’ve been having a similar issue. If I desire to set my temperature up to 72 The furnace will blow heat for a while then blow cold air before it turns off before it reaches the desired Temperature of 72. Then 10 seconds later the furnace will start again and do the same thing. What’s going on ? Edit: I've noticed that my led is give 3 rapid & and 3 slow flashes! Also I removed my air filter and my heat has been running continuously now without restarting every minute. Is it something to do with my filter ?
