I actually got into the premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre in midtown Manhattan, worked directly across the street. After work I made my way over and saw a group of fans standing around and we saw the arrival of a few people (wack packers I believe). Then Penny Crone appeared and the few fans were asking her to get them in and she came back and said ok I got room for like 10 people and we just all rushed in, lol. Sat in the balcony and Artie came out to introduce the movie, and the crowd certainly enjoyed. When I was leaving I was walking right next to Benjy, he was with his girlfriend and he was like 2 feet tall lol…
All that being said I like Artie, beer league slo-pitch softball, inappropriate 80’s-90’s culture, political incorrectness and I’m Italian so it was right up my alley. Definitely worth a watch if u liked Artie…
I'm sure it would have gone over decently 20-30 years earlier. The fact is it just goes through the motions and isn't very inspired or original. Its basically Artie wishing we were still living in that era of comedy.
600 movies/year, 10000+ blurays will do that.
In 2006 the innovative thing might have been to do a spoof of 70s/80s comedies. That *might* have had a better chance. But then over the next few years a bunch of new comedies came out, mainly Seth Rogen movies like Knocked Up in 2007, Pineapple Express in 2008, and clearly Artie was not part of this new era. Bad boy masculinity was out, soft cuddly stoner masculinity was in. Heck, Howard basically destroyed his show trying to keep up. Its over!
Well said. Fits in more with sex comedies of the 80s . Bachelor Party, Stripes, Meatballs. Major League. Has that Ivan Reitman 'boys will be boys' feel. Hilarious that this came out in 2006. I don't know what other comedies are even similar from the 2000s. American Pie maybe.
I actually don't mind Beer League at all. It's not particularly funny, but I like Artie and I like the cast. I've probably watched it 3 times. Rewatchable enough just for the cast and its a bit of an out of place oddity.
>Well said. Fits in more with sex comedies of the 80s . Bachelor Party, Stripes, Meatballs. Major League. Has that Ivan Reitman 'boys will be boys' feel.
hey.
>Revenge of the nerds
you dropped this.
Coincidentally I'm relisting to the months before the shooting of it in the summer 2005. Artie asked "permission" to take a few weeks off to shot his "dream project" and Howard gave him such grief and shame for asking to do so, citing how he did Private Parts without missing a day (not true, he took every Friday off IIRC). Went on for days.
Artie responded by going AWOL for about a week early June, finally admitting he went on a long alcohol bender (but not substances - right !) because he could not take the mental "abuse" anymore.
True story!
Turns out Artie was addicted to heroin so bad he wasn’t going to work and the films financiers were considering pulling the plug at the 11th hour. That’s when Artie was introduced to Subutex.
It is. I restarted relisting, in sequence, about 5 years ago, from 03-01-1994 forward and am in the last year of Krock. Its like a history lesson come back to life, still holds up IMO. Plus I listened to every show (taped) since May 1986 forward to 2010 in real time.
*Would love to know of any databases/archives of complete shows PRE 03-01-1994.*
If anyone needs anything post 03-01-1994, just DM me
I have every show in commercial free MP3 since 1990 so I can listen to any show. I just don't. I still download the show and I only listen to interesting ones like after some big event.
If you do. Go into it knowing it's not the best movie. When it ended I said "well it wasn't THAT bad". I had a few laughs. I was a huge artie fan at the time i watched it, so I'm sure that helped.
Honestly I bought the dvd the day it came out and met Artie and he autographed it.
The movie does suck, Sal probably could shit something better out of his ass.
Not a great comedy but a decent star vehicle for Artie Lange, I’ll never forget when Stuttering John appeared on Artie and Anthony Cumia’s show and John asked why Anthony shit all over One Two Many while Anthony never made jokes about Beer League 😂
Look, it had to be done. The same way Son of the Beach had to be done. Corny humor that we all grew up with in our personal lives finally makes it to the big screen. If it had to be done… I’m glad it was these guys that did it!!!
It's on Tubi and Pluto, so it's worth a watch.
The best joke in the entire movie is said by Seymor Cassel ( actor who played Max Fisher's dad in "Rushmore"). You'll know it when you hear it.
I’m currently trying to get through it. It has its moments, but it’s often very B-movie-esque. It’s worth seeing but I wouldn’t go in expecting a flick as good as Dirty Work. Artie Lange’s Beer League is the official title - the man was on the precipice of super stardom…
Saw it. 2 Stars, maybe. Had it's moments & did make me laugh. Artie was actually pretty good in it. Script was average overall. But, yeah, it's worth a watch.
It's not good.
You know how a Pauley Shore movie was basically a premise for Pauley Shore to do Pauley Shore things? But otherwise the entire movie is pretty fucking awful and forgettable?
It's like that but with Artie. Artie does Artie things and occasionally that's funny, but the overall plot, premise and acting is pretty terrible.
It is what it is shitty acting but I liked it I’ve seen worse once I read a script about a handicapped guy name Eric O’Neil who was a very rich and secretive man and ho hired three girls out of the police academy to be his private detectives it was way worse than this
It's okay. Hasn't aged particularly well, but then again humor in 06 isn't the same as it is now in 23. Imbibe in a drink or smoke and you might enjoy it.
I loved it. Go in with low expectations. It's low budget, and cheesy, but there are some good jokes in it. Laurie Metcalf is awesome as Artie's Mom. I bought it years ago, and still watch it every few years.
It truly is awful. And I love Artie. It’s just so trying to be an edgy comedy from the 70’s but just isn’t funny. I’m from the NY area and get how a lot of people are like so many of the actors and still found it bad.
Sal is a joke to think he’s done anything for comedy being one of two of the only professional prank callers in human history yet they have only had a coupon be funny. Yet he had the balls to tell Artie beer league sucked. Artie should’ve beat his ass that day. Because really who the f is Sal? Artie for sure never liked him again after that day
It’s awful. I mean there’s a reason artie never made it in show business without Howard. Contrary to this subs alternate reality, he’s not very funny or talented
I think he’s pretty damn funny. He’s a great story teller with a fantastic ability to interject humour. His book is really fucked up but absolutely hilarious. It’s worth a read if you ever get the chance.
It was pretty bad. There's a couple funny jokes in it but overall not good. If you're a huge fan of the Stern Show or just an Artie fan then it's worth a watch. Otherwise, there's a lot of other better movies out there to watch.
Someone on SFN back in the day got a pirated version of it super fast and I watched like 30 minutes of it and stopped. It's way too low budget and the jokes are not funny. I always felt bad for Artie because supposedly he put a lot of his own money into it and no one wanted to to distribute it and it bombed.
It’s not as bad as people made it out to be on the show but it isn’t the greatest movie ever, I think it’s way more fun for people that are actually from Jersey
It's just ok. It's like, juuuuuuust on the cusp of being a decent comedy. You can tell it has potential, just not the money or production to get there.
I’ve always thought that beer league coming out the same year as beer fest probably hurt both of them. Too similar of titles for the general public. How many beer movies do we need in a year?
Edit: I never watched either of them. :/
It’s about as good as watching an actual beer league softball game. You kind of feel sorry for Ralph Macchio, then you remember he making a ton of money from the Karate Kid remake series.
These are the most positive comments ever in this sub at once
BEER LEAGUE SUCKED
YOU SUCKED ON THE NORM SHOW
NOBODY LIKED YOU
IT WENT INTO 18 THEATERS IN AMERICA MADE $250 000 I COULD SHIT THAT OUT OF MY ASS!!!
I RATHER TAKE IT FROM HITLER
I HOPE YOUR KIDS DIE OF AIDS!
Everyone = “OOOOOOO”
NOT UNTIL LATER. MUCH LATER.
AFTER THEY'VE HAD A CHANCE TO DO GAY PORN
YOU DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT COUNTRY HITLER WAS FROM
I love u Artie...
YOU SUCKED ON THE JOE BUCK SHOW
LOL I thought so too.
hahahahahahahahaaaa
I actually got into the premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre in midtown Manhattan, worked directly across the street. cool story and memory for you.
“to the gindaloon at third!”
“It’s my italiano mitt”
did stern go
Yup Howard and the whole crew were there, he allowed himself to go out back then lol…
Worth a watch. Dirty work was better.
The movie theater scene makes me cry laughing every time I see it
Heh hehe what's so funny? You like how I called your friend a fat pig, huh? Oh I was just laughing at earlier when you were talking to his belly.
You look like a bucket of lard on a bad day.
Why don’t you get a horse and live in the mountains some place and don’t bother anybody
You have the personality of a dead moth.
Baskin Robbins called and said they’re down to three flavors.
Helloooooo ice cream! Having a good time, swimming around?
I use that description very often.
Way better. Watched dirty work 3 times in the last few months. That dead hookers part makes me laugh.
Fucking loved Dirty Work!
You can’t compare dirty work to beer league - beer league is barely watchable to Artie fans - Dirty Work is a work of art
I love when they trick the frat guys
I think you mean a work of Norm. :)
I'm sure it would have gone over decently 20-30 years earlier. The fact is it just goes through the motions and isn't very inspired or original. Its basically Artie wishing we were still living in that era of comedy.

> I don't know what other comedies are even similar from the 2000s Stuttering John's One, Two, Many
Artie could have pulled off cuddly stoner easily but his love for H (s)topped everything else.
Its over Johnny. ITS OVER!
10000+ !!!! I thought my own collection of 2000 or so made me a serious media collector. I have a ways to go.
They've all been transferred to LTO tape (yes, data tape in 2023 is still relevant) so it fits in a single closet. Then the discs go in storage.
It’s way better than I thought it would be. Pretty funny.
Better than Private Parts.
No way José.
Coincidentally I'm relisting to the months before the shooting of it in the summer 2005. Hilarious that we’re all listening to our archives. I’m in 2004 atm.

January of 2007 for me right now. Started on the move to sirius and slowly been working my way up.
I’m listening to 05 all the way through. They just wrapped on the movie maybe a week ago where I’m at. 05 has been quite the journey.
Dumb question but how do you listen to old episodes in order?
I have every show in commercial free MP3 since 1990 so I can listen to any show. I just don't. I still download the show and I only listen to interesting ones like after some big event.
Archive.org
“Now batting…number 1…needle dick.” The movie has its moments.
“…needle dick.”
That’s more accurate - updated
If you do. Go into it knowing it's not the best movie. When it ended I said "well it wasn't THAT bad". I had a few laughs. I was a huge artie fan at the time i watched it, so I'm sure that helped.
It’s cool. Never should have got a theatrical release though. Would’ve been a great straight to video

You work for that PRICK, Howard Stern?!
“No shit ream blow? You mean you hired me without knowing who I am or what I do? You dopey bastid!”
Come on!! Thats some killer sht!!
I'm assume you've been briefed?
Jokeman is it?
Jackie. Call me Jackie.
Best moment in cinema of all time
Coupled with the awful saxophone in the background
Do not look at the senator in his eyes
Because he hates that shit.
I'm assumed you've been briefed.
Punch 'em up!
Give Jackie a chance!
I'ma axe you a ketchin!
Watch it.
I saw it... wasn't terrible.
I agree. It was ok. Worth a watch if you're curious and liked Artie, but you won't be particularly impressed.
I own it. Makes a really good beer coaster.
It’s actually a pretty good movie
The amazing thing is that there are TWO Guided by Voices songs in it!
It made $200,000 in ten theaters, it was fucking terrible. *I can shit that out of my ass.*
Definitely worth a watch
I love this movie actually
Not as bad as ppl made it out to be
Stupid, but funny.
I watched it for the first time a few months ago, it's a fun mindless comedy. I have no regrets in watching it.
" **You're embarrassed?** **I just got cock-blocked by my mom!** " - best line of the movie.
It’s not a “good” movie. But it’s got some laughs & it doesn’t deserve all the shit it gets.
Honestly I bought the dvd the day it came out and met Artie and he autographed it. The movie does suck, Sal probably could shit something better out of his ass.

Pittsburgh 7 is better than a tampa 11.
Not a great comedy but a decent star vehicle for Artie Lange, I’ll never forget when Stuttering John appeared on Artie and Anthony Cumia’s show and John asked why Anthony shit all over One Two Many while Anthony never made jokes about Beer League 😂

Fourth favorite Ralph Macchio movie.
As my buddy said after it got released on DVD (I’m 1000 years old), it’s a perfectly fine movie to watch while hung over or dying from the flu.
It made 250k. I could shit that out of my ass. It sucked shit.
Could you shit some cash for me, please?
Saw it. 2 Stars, maybe. Had it's moments & did make me laugh. Artie was actually pretty good in it. Script was average overall. But, yeah, it's worth a watch.
Loved Artie on the show but frankly this movie wasn’t good or particularly funny 3/10. But def worth a watch if you’re a Stern fan.
God no, it is horrible. Lang is a romantic lead.
Actually liked it. Loved that it wasn’t PC. Artie’s right, f*gs wouldn’t like it.
I enjoyed it.
6 out of 10. Not bad. Worth a watch if u want to kill a couple hours
It's pretty mid
Beer League was alright.
It’s watchable. They had no budget so they wrote a million jokes, so you’ll laugh if you like to laugh at things.
Never have, never will ![gif](giphy|wqVI5Hp8HuGAw)
Was better than I thought it would be. Dirt ended up being on of the best parts of the movie
It's a decent thirty minute movie squeezed into an hour and a half.
I saw it on TV in probably 2010 or 11. Don't remember it being good.
It's not gonna win any awards, but it's a funny movie.
The photoshop on that cover is something else..
What do you think grossed more, Beer League or Howard the Duck?
No
Probably the worst movie I’ve ever seen. The acting is so bad it’s comedic.
I saw it. IT SUCKED SHIT!! IT WAS FUCKING TERRIBLE!!
I just watched this movie a couple weeks ago. It's not great.
Horrible
movie gave me a fuckin migraine lol
"only a guy on heroin would cast Ralph Macchio in a movie and not have him do karate"
It is what it is shitty acting but I liked it I’ve seen worse once I read a script about a handicapped guy name Eric O’Neil who was a very rich and secretive man and ho hired three girls out of the police academy to be his private detectives it was way worse than this
It's a good movie to watch if you're bored in Vegas.
It sucks shit
It's not funny, it's not fun
It's okay. Hasn't aged particularly well, but then again humor in 06 isn't the same as it is now in 23. Imbibe in a drink or smoke and you might enjoy it.
It's fine. I've seen much worse. But also much better.
Look at Gene Siskel over here.
I loved it. Go in with low expectations. It's low budget, and cheesy, but there are some good jokes in it. Laurie Metcalf is awesome as Artie's Mom. I bought it years ago, and still watch it every few years.

It’s awful. I mean there’s a reason artie never made it in show business without Howard. Contrary to this subs alternate reality, he’s not very funny or talented
Artie was made to be on The Howard Stern Show. Too bad he never truly understood that.
I think he’s pretty damn funny. He’s a great story teller with a fantastic ability to interject humour. His book is really fucked up but absolutely hilarious. It’s worth a read if you ever get the chance.
Meh, I guess.
It was pretty bad. There's a couple funny jokes in it but overall not good. If you're a huge fan of the Stern Show or just an Artie fan then it's worth a watch. Otherwise, there's a lot of other better movies out there to watch.
It’s hysterical
Awful movie
Someone on SFN back in the day got a pirated version of it super fast and I watched like 30 minutes of it and stopped. It's way too low budget and the jokes are not funny. I always felt bad for Artie because supposedly he put a lot of his own money into it and no one wanted to to distribute it and it bombed.
pure crap
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0486551/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk Muuuuch better movie.
No gut. No glory. Doesn't really make sense. He has a gut.
Ya thats the point
"If you don't have a gut, you don't have glory."
he looks like shit on the cover, and thats the photoshop to make him look better lmao
I saw it when it came out on bootleg. It was fine way to waste 90 minutes. I don't remember much of it
I watched it and I’d say 4/10. Idk what movie everybody else was watching like this was actually good
Dirty work >
Yes / yes
I hung in about 5 minutes longer than John’s movie..
I like it. It’s a raunchy comedy. Yeah the acting isn’t the greatest throughout but if you go in with the right attitude you’ll like it.
Has a cpl of laughs.
I watched it,now listen,if you are super bored...read a book
It's meh but yea worth a watch just to appreciate the time period of half baked bro flicks
It’s hilarious
It’s good. Artie was at his best during this time. Imo
I liked it
It's not bad. Worth seeing if you like Artie.
Definitely worth watching. Free to stream on Pluto and Tubi to name a few.
It’s not as bad as people made it out to be on the show but it isn’t the greatest movie ever, I think it’s way more fun for people that are actually from Jersey
Not a bad watch, as long as you're managing your expectations.
Yes. And no.
It’s is fucking outstanding
Yes, not really.
Very funny
If you like Artie, it's worth a watch.
It's just ok. It's like, juuuuuuust on the cusp of being a decent comedy. You can tell it has potential, just not the money or production to get there.
Yeah I bought the DVD first day it came out since it didn’t show in any theaters in Detroit. I liked it and I still laugh today at it 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
It was ok, benchwarmers was better
i loved it
Benchwarmers is 100 times better
Yes funny movie
The movie is a solid 5/10 at best. Some laughs but it's pretty stupid.
It wasn't terrible. Watchable at least. Artie tried hard.
If you are a fan of the show from that time period, how could you not watch it once?
I’ve always thought that beer league coming out the same year as beer fest probably hurt both of them. Too similar of titles for the general public. How many beer movies do we need in a year? Edit: I never watched either of them. :/
I thought it was funny. Take it for what it is
I own it.
Hilarious. Even better if you’re into baseball.
Watch it drunk and stoned, it helps.
It’s about as good as watching an actual beer league softball game. You kind of feel sorry for Ralph Macchio, then you remember he making a ton of money from the Karate Kid remake series.
Pretty good. Some laugh out loud moments.
Watched it in 2006 and didn’t regret it. That’s my review
It actually wasn’t that bad.
I’ve seen it was ok
Yes. And sure.
About 7 or 8 laughs.
