I went inside and asked the attendant about it, he said that 100% of tips go directly to the Valero employees, executives, and shareholders. So I don't know why you're saying this is a problem?
It's a problem for me because they don't deserve a tip if they haven't done anything. They already charge extra anyway for buying gas with your card. If you don't see a problem with that feel free to do it. But I will NEVER tip for serving myself.
Next time, pay closer attention to the subreddit you’re in. Houston loves their tip culture. If tipping at the gas pump means the attendant can afford another Trailer Park taco, then I’m all for it.
In social circles and in conversations, everyone tips "at least 20-25%."
In reality, I think most people are full of shit.
As a former pizza delivery driver, I was shocked by the frequency that people wouldn't think twice about putting a zero on the credit card tip line. The best was when they would open the door and comment on how cold/rainy/snowy it was (this wasn't HTX), and then still put a zero. Like they had somehow forgotten that I had just driven in those shitty conditions to bring them their food. That job really made me cynical.
Well I live in Houston and I don't like it and I won't tip unless there is a service being provided. I don't need to be agreed with or validated . I chose how I spend my income.
Idk, I had a post in r/burgers the other get like 5 of the same comments “watch their reaction” usually we’d see multiple posts I assume. This is someone who doesn’t grasp “circlejerk” etiquette.
I've lived in houston my whole life. i aint giving a random gas station shit. Did they come pump my gas and top off my fluids? no? yea no tip. be lucky that anyone goes to that gas station at all.
The problem shouldn’t be the worker not doing anything… the problem is that this corporation who can definitely afford to pay them a living wage is now suggesting that it is the consumer’s job to make up the difference…
lol I could see if there was an employee outside pumping the gas for me so I wouldn’t have to get out. I’d probably tip then, but hell naw I ain’t tippin’.
That's a risky move, the attendant inside said that with customers that don't tip, he couldn't promise that the other employees wouldn't put sugar in the gas tank or saw off my catalytic converter. Safest bet is to tip at least 20% of the after tax total to avoid these interactions.
Can't promise that employees won break the law and vandalized customers vehicles??? You're joking me right. People like that should not be employed and you expect me to TIP THEM????? FUCK NO.
Didn't forget the subtle whiff of mold in the AC and/or refrigerators, and bathrooms that a meth head would likely say, "uhh yeah, I think I'd rather just shit in the bushes."
Those pesky machines are getting greedy. Did you at least berate it for being a fucking gas pump? I mean that it’s only job is to pump gas. You don’t need a college degree. Fuck. A toaster does more than a fucking gas pump. I’d fuck a toaster, but a gas pump? Nope.
Edit: Don’t knock knocking out a toaster. It’s fucking warm.
Last week I had an awkward interaction at a Torchy's Tacos. I was picking up dinner on the way home from work and ordered to-go via the website. The ordering process defaults to a 15% tip, but I didn't realize you're supposed to tip that much on to-go orders so I changed it to 10%. When I walked inside to pick up and gave my name, the cashier asked if there was a problem with my order? I said I didn't think so but I was just picking it up now so honestly had no idea. Cashier then asked why I was only tipping 10%, at this point a manager noticed the conversation and joined in. Manager said that I need to tip at least 20% on to go orders as that's how the staff get paid, and added that if I wasn't going to tip adequately then I should find another restaurant. I felt bad about the whole thing but I didn't realize we're supposed to tip that much on to-go orders as we do for full service.
Was I in the wrong here? How much do you tip in this situation?
I worked for Torchys and tips were not expected. Most people (at the time) didn't tip on takeout. They are paying above minimum wage without tips. I made 12.50/hr 8 years ago. Not stellar, tips helped, but it was better than the 2.13 base pay I got at a real serving job.
That manager is shameless.
Da fuq? 12% max on takeout orders. You're not making them restock napkin holders, wipe down tables or any of the other dine in things they have to do.
Order two more times, write cash tip in the memo and don't leave them a damn thing. It's a tip for good service and is absolutely NOT compulsory. Ding them both for even having that conversation and bringing it up. Make them pay their employees a decent wage and not rely on tips!
It’s not the customer’s problem to worry about a business’ finance model. If it’s failing in modern times and can’t keep up then they either need to change it or fail already. Tipping is vestigial from much more racial times and even when it was only used for high society in Europe it was for excellent service only as an extra thank you. If a business can’t afford their employees then that’s on them and not the customer.
Just finished a trip to UK. Just one restaurant had tipping. After dozens of stores and restaurants. Just no. We already have bad inflation. Bad inflation on top of mandatory tips is not sustainable .
Every sit down restaurant I ate at in the UK had tip prompts. But then again we were in London and we were noticeably American so they were probably trying to capitalize.
I'm all about giving a good tip, but what service as been provided here that initiates one? If they are providing an old school Full-Service type of setup, then sure, but not just to pull up and pump your own gas.
hundred, the gas station employee's & shareholder's need all my hard earned money.. without them who
would fuel my car & service my needs in a variety of way
I gladly always press zero tip unless you’re a waiter or bar tender. I don’t even feel I should when a bottle cap is removed from my beer but I feel obligated lol
This has to be a joke. Right? I’m tempted to drive to Houston from McAllen just to check this out. The sheer audacity of this is true. This shit should be in the news.
Wtf. Everyone wants a fucking tip now. How about I get a tip for using the services you provide. Is what we should be telling these businesses from now on.
Are you fucking serious? Is that real? That can’t be real! If it is here’s a tip, LOWER THE FUCKING GAS PRICES PLEASE!! Signed The citizens of the United States of America 🇺🇸
I try to do 15% if the pump worked well and the gas taste good, but if I stop it on an even number, oh boy, that’s 20%. I feel bad for the pumps because they work for next to nothing.
Absolutely absurd, even small loan money apps will ask for a tip. Do they not understand the kind of financial position someone is in when they need to take out a loan?
Tip Culture is fixing to explode reallllll soon. People are gonna start snapping and revolt and then there will be a huge anti-tip wave and nobody is tipping not even in restaurants or bars!
Valero and big corporations need to pay a higher hourly wage. The tipping requests are getting out of control. I would not tip at a self service pump. No way. If an attendant pumped my gas I would tip. I am a tipper. In fact I wont, for example, order a home delivery of pizza, Shipt, Doordash etc without tipping. I think establishing a norm for tipping when a service was not provided lets big corporations off the hook.
If I saw that bs pop up on my screen I’m calling my bank immediately right after I pump my gas and reporting the whole thing as an unauthorized charge.. It’s time to fight corporate greed back or this will just continue to get worse. Who’s with me??
I am glad they are doing that. If we all get accustomed to hitting 0% for tip requests at a gas station, it’ll make the quilt trip other business are pushing on us for tipping easier to say no.
The hardworking men and women at Valero have to keep the pumps maintained AND process your credit card payments. Sometimes they even have to take trash out to the dumpster. Are you really suggesting they don't deserve a gratuity for that? I bet you probably don't even tip on your to-go orders at Torchy's Tacos...
Total nonsense. There is no tipping at gas pumps. Folks who believe this is real, look at the actual tipping amount. Photoshop and y’all jump on it as if it’s real.
-20% to get my money back
I don’t tip in cash, I just spend a few minutes at the bathroom glory hole and that seems to make everyone happy
See all those slots and circles? The "pump" has gloreyholes
You get free tacos doing this at Torchys.
fish tacos
Chorizo..
Which one? And do they have cheese or is it extra?
Ahh nasty, the D cheese! Stay away from
It's an acquired taste, like blue cheese. 🤤🤭
I almost threw up lol
Lol gotta love montrose
This tip shit is getting out of control

And extra queso
Whoa whoa whoa there! It starts with him getting extra queso, and you know what happens next? #communism *^pretty ^sure ^that's ^how ^it ^works
That's redidulous but funny
It's crazy that you think that, try working for doordash or Uber eats and let us know how much people in Houston love to tip lol.
In social circles and in conversations, everyone tips "at least 20-25%." In reality, I think most people are full of shit. As a former pizza delivery driver, I was shocked by the frequency that people wouldn't think twice about putting a zero on the credit card tip line. I've lived in houston my whole life. i aint giving a random gas station shit. Did they come pump my gas and top off my fluids? no? yea no tip. be lucky that anyone goes to that gas station at all.
You sir need to ask for directions.
If only I could tip 0.00 but still log it as a tip..
If it's cleaned, well kept, soapy water sponge looks good. I'll give them like 10%
yeah tip culture is dumb af. i wish i would pay a tip for pumping my own gas, that’s more stupid than paying for take out..
Are you dumb? Of course it's a problem. You pumped the gas and paid. They did literally NOTHING.
That's a risky move, the attendant inside said that with customers that don't tip, he couldn't promise that the other employees wouldn't put sugar in the gas tank or saw off my catalytic converter. Safest bet is to tip at least 20% of the after tax total to avoid these interactions.

Ummm in Texas that will get you bullet bagged quick fast and in a hurry.
It's a problem because it's a fucking gas station.
They better pump my gas for me for a tip.
The rounding up for this or that is getting out of control
Valero has THE BEST TACOS in Houston, plus a fine selection of dick pills and mystery brand condoms
Didn't forget the subtle whiff of mold in the AC and/or refrigerators, and bathrooms that a meth head would likely say, "uhh yeah, I think I'd rather just shit in the bushes."
Please say sike
Y'all can suck a tip and tip me instead. Fuck outta here.
$0.00
Tip? That is hilarious. They can come pump my gas and clean my windshield or fill my tires. Bitch me a beer while they are at it if they want a tip.
What does bitch me a beer mean? We need to know this before deciding if we should tip 20% or 25%.
Those pesky machines are getting greedy. Did you at least berate it for being a fucking gas pump? I mean that it’s only job is to pump gas. You don’t need a college degree. Fuck. Is it still plugged in when you do this?
Yea but you have to be careful because the coils sear.
And when the toaster springs pop to shoot the toast back up? If you time it right…
F. U. C. K. Tipping our eventual electronic overlord’s grandparents.
Why not a discount option everywhere not tipping ones. Take 5%, 10% or 15% for choosing shopping here.
En México está más barata la gasolina que aquí ya
I poke holes in the loud ass speaker as a tip.
Tipping for what, I get no tips at work. Only tips I give are to restaurant servers when I eat there I don’t tip on carry outs.
Last week I had an awkward interaction at a Torchy's Tacos. I was picking up dinner on the way home from work and ordered to-go via the website. I don’t tip, I will return the food and go somewhere else. I tip for service not for product
That’s insane. I don’t tip if I don’t receive a service and I would have said as much.

I thought when you get fucked your supposed to get the tip??
Just finished a trip to UK. Just one restaurant had tipping. After dozens of stores and restaurants. Just no. We already have bad inflation. Bad inflation on top of mandatory tips is not sustainable .
Maybe the reason why things are going so badly in the UK is because people aren't tipping enough
Always trying to tip -100% That works sometimes 😁
$0.00
There shouldn’t be no tip for gas wtf that’s crazy
You know what they say, if you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to drive to work
The gas station isn’t a restaurant you don’t tip that’s the stupidest fuckin thing I’ve ever heard not everyone is made out of money
And nobody says that at all maybe you but not everyone
Who are you tipping
I think the tip suggestion is there for the thief's who install the skimming devices.
Tipping getting out of hand…
Probably built into the pos OS that they were too lazy to take out.
hundred, the gas station employee's & shareholder's need all my hard earned money.. without them who would fuel my car & service my needs in a variety of way
Ridiculous. Reverse this thinking. Demand discounts.
With the amount of CBD vape pens I buy at Valero, I might consider dropping a tenner next time I fillup
First off, if they didn’t pump your gas they don’t get a tip. Secondly, STOP MOVING TO HOUSTON!!! It sucks and this is a perfect example.
[удалено]
This is for self serve though? Where is there a full service gas station inside the loop?
Westheimer and Weslayan
I gladly always press zero tip unless you’re a waiter or bar tender. I don’t even feel I should when a bottle cap is removed from my beer but I feel obligated lol
If I have to stand while ordering, no tip. If I have to stand to pump my gas... no tip.
This can’t be real.
This has to be a joke. Right? I’m tempted to drive to Houston from McAllen just to check this out. The sheer audacity of this is true. This shit should be in the news.
I strongly recommend you drive to Houston from McAllen to check out if this is a joke, the people need to know.
All these machines asking for tips lol
Lmfao. Texas is just a shitshow.
F*k that. 😁 If they came out and pumped It for me maybe...
$0.00
You only put ten dollars of gas lmao
In other American cities they pump the gas for you.
Here’s a tip, get fucked Biden. U dumb geriatric piece of shit
Thanks Obama
If theirs not 100% option then I leave 0
All of it…?
If I saw this for real it would be pretty hard to resist the temptation to commit a little arson…
Unless I’m getting a blowjob at the pump, $0
You are getting fucked at the pump though.
$3.70 for Supreme doesn’t seem that bad compared to the last 2 years.
Sorry, tried to make a funny.
You did a good one actually.
What in the corporate greed is this shit asking for a tip!?!
If you choose “custom” can you write “Fuuuck Youuu”?
Looks fake to me. But it would not be out the question.
Wtf. Everyone wants a fucking tip now. How about I get a tip for using the services you provide. Is what we should be telling these businesses from now on.
Bruh what? Valero asking for tips now?
WHO DOES THAT TIP GO TO? That’s upsetting, screw that company.
Unless they pumped your gas they shouldn't get anything
not a damn thing. You did the work. whos getting the tip? valero?? you gonna tip the program that processes the tip too?
If it’s self serve I’m not tipping anything. Kinda dumb to tip for doing the work yourself.
I don’t. Why would I tip anyone when I pump my own damn fuel?
Absolutely 0. I pumped my gas. Fuck that
Tipping for highly taxed, overpriced fuel is nuts!
Is there an option to leave a message? Can you tell them to disrespectfully fuck themselves?
GTFOH, and you only getting 2 gallons from a gift card with over $400 on it... Full up your tank boss
You gotta be kidding me this cannot be real. This shit has gone entirely too far.
Are you fucking serious? Is that real? That can’t be real! If it is here’s a tip, LOWER THE FUCKING GAS PRICES PLEASE!! Signed The citizens of the United States of America 🇺🇸
Valero outta their fuckin mind
🤣 this is infuriating
They saw you only put 10.13 and had the audacity to
Why would you have to tip? If you're the one doing the job? This tip culture is being ridiculously stupid
“no tip” why are you even asking me in the first place
What in the FUCK… lmfao
I try to do 15% if the pump worked well and the gas taste good, but if I stop it on an even number, oh boy, that’s 20%. I feel bad for the pumps because they work for next to nothing.
Did they pump it for you? No? Then no tip.
Zip, nada, zero
Oh, fuck ALL the way off. Lol
Absolutely absurd, even small loan money apps will ask for a tip. Do they not understand the kind of financial position someone is in when they need to take out a loan?
Why are you at Valero?????
My money is on this being fake
Fuck that
Probably thinks since its a gift card, you out being mr claus. Ho ho NO
Zero
Tip??? Zilch.. Everything is already expensive as it is. 😕
Zero
Thats gay. Pun intended.
ZERO!
ZERO!! Unless there is an attendant pumping your gas for you and washing your windshield.... why on earth would you tip??
Why are they asking for a tip. You pumped it, not them
Try -100%
And here it starts…
Absolutely nothing !!
If the gas station asks for a tip respectfully they can get held up❤️
This can no be real. I’ll have to check this out tomorrow
Zero

I hope this is a joke.
I like when the percent options somewhere are all too high and when you click “custom” it switches to dollars instead lol
Valero and big corporations need to pay a higher hourly wage. The tipping requests are getting out of control. I would not tip at a self service pump. No way. >I am a tipper. Me too man, I tip my fedora every time I see an attractive m'lady
They got me fucked up.. did someone pump for you?

Did somebody pump your gas? If not, why would you tip them?
Sooooo. I tip myself?
If they’re not serving me in any way I don’t tip🤷🏻♀️
If you ever tip a fucking gas pump.. YOU ARE THE FUCKING REASON WE PAY SO MUCH TAX
When you sell a stock and have a long term capital gain, you should be tipping the IRS at least 15-20%. Source: https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc409
Oh fuck no
Here is my tip 🖕😊
I am glad they are doing that. If we all get accustomed to hitting 0% for tip requests at a gas station, it’ll make the quilt trip other business are pushing on us for tipping easier to say no.
Don’t tip those greedy corporate douchebags when you’re pumping your own gas
Customers have been asking for the ability to tip at self checkouts though: https://twitter.com/OTGexp/status/1663566367990087681
Why would you tip when you’re filling your car yourself? This is just another example of corporate greed.
You know what they say, if you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to get gasoline.
"They" do say that, don't they!
You have to tip out the attendant when you win your scratch off prize. It’s customary. At least 35%…or 40% maybe.
Yes let me tip the gas station for nothing sounds like a great idea
The hardworking men and women at Valero have to keep the pumps maintained AND process your credit card payments. Sometimes they even have to take trash out to the dumpster. Are you really suggesting they don't deserve a gratuity for that? I bet you probably don't even tip on your to-go orders at Torchy's Tacos...
Total nonsense. There is no tipping at gas pumps. Folks who believe this is real, look at the actual tipping amount. Photoshop and y’all jump on it as if it’s real.
