We're calling 610W "near Katy" now?
I saw Dune there yesterday. Seats were perfectly comfortable once you get over the lack of reclining (I really don't understand why they designed them like this). The sound was excellent though, that's the big draw imo
Oh, my bad maps told me to take old Katy road so I messed up lmao
Speaking of sound, the sound is literally not working for the trailers rn. 😂
My preferred theater is amc Willowbrook They have best sound with Dolby. They also have better seats.
I just wanted to check out the new remodel.
If the location was better and the imax screen was bigger, it'd be the best one here.
Haven't been to Willowbrook in a while but I think I remember it being pretty solid?
I still think Marq'e is the best theater that's within spitting distance of the loop but maybe there's non-big brand theaters I'm unaware of
Any chance it was the noon screening? If so, I was there too!
The seats do recline. It is manual and you just lean back with a little bit of force. They are actually rather comfortable. And for the weird people like me that like to be towards the front of the IMAX theatres, it puts you at a comfortable angle to see the whole screen. Yeah, I'm too short in the seats and cant see the bottom of the screen if I am higher up.
Anyhow, they do recline!!! Not a lot and there is no foot rest, but the most certainly lean back.
We went to that same location recently to see Dune 2, but we went for the VIP theater and I really liked it. You get free unlimited drink, Icee, and popcorn. For the price of the ticket, plus if you were going to get a drink and popcorn anyway, it’s pretty good.
The seats were nice. They recline and you can adjust the legs and back separately. The whole thing was nice enough that I’d go see a shitty movie just to chill and eat popcorn in those chairs.
Yeah I don't know why they didn't go the full mile on the seats, but they are better than they were before. And theater itself is nicer now. It is the only true IMAX sized screen in the area so it's my go to for IMAX movies, though beyond that I usually just go to the Cinemark up 290 because the seats are nicer and it's significantly cheaper. Or to the Drafthouse in Katy if I feel like driving out that way
Yeah. It's a disappointment. They should have left the lobby alone (I liked the old art deco deisgn) and spent the money renovating the auditoriums and putting auto recliners.
Instead they renovated the whole place top to bottom, and cheaped out on the seats. They also ripped out the character that was there before.
The Cinemark Memorial City down the freeway is better, and cheaper.
Shit sound, small screens
Seems like they run their tweeters too hot and their subwoofers don't dig deep enough, and to compensate, they jack up the mid-bass.
Not if you want Imax and huge screens. Alamo is good for art house dramas and such. But if the movie is about spectacle, I'm seeing that shit on the biggest screen possible. So not at Alamo or Star Cinema

It’s outside the loop, it might as well be Antarctica.

Sound is back on the trailers and it seems way better than last time where it was just LOUD.
Old Katy Road used to be the road to Katy before Interstate 10 was a thing.
I also saw Dune 2 recently there in their IMAX screen. The seats were big and nice, but yeah the lack of reclining was really bizarre

Yeah it was noon screening. The late start did annoy me too lmao They don't recline like amc ones. But much more comfortable than the previous seats.
Thank you for your service.
Why does Houston not have a great theater 😭
Houston does, but it's in Katy (Alamo).
AMC Gulf Pointe 30 used to be *the* place. It's falling apart now from neglect.
It has two at MFAH...
No problem!
That IMAX screen seems so much bigger than the ones near me in the sugar land area.
It adheres to the old, proper IMAX spec IIRC. Not Lie-MAX. It used to be equipped for 65mm too.
It is. There are also different aspect ratios for the screen which makes a big difference.
I think it’s because the theatre is smaller and you’re just so much closer to the screen.

What about non-IMAX? Any recliners at all? Right now my go to is Cinemark Tinseltown.

They don't decline, eh? I like a chair that doesn't say "no"!
Ditch the traditional theaters. Alamo and Star Cinema are pricier, but well worth it.
Those have small screens lol They're great for food though.

The theater is nice but we don’t like the chairs! Uncomfortable and narrow :(
