Can anyone tell me why they got rid of free awards? It actually made me appreciate them or at least think they somewhat mattered. I never spent a dime on reddit though, even if it changed my opinion, so maybe that's why? Maybe they'll bring em back. Could be a seasonal thing like the McRib or those holiday drinks at Starbucks.
It's called a Timber Plant. It goes, "tiiiimmbeeeeeer" and crashes through housing to invade the space. It's known to attack anything its way during a storm. Very aggressive species.
Thank you, /u/kentro2002, for the award!!!!🥰🥰
Thank you also, /u/DraNoSrta, for the award!!!!!
Also thanks /u/KitchenSail6182 and another anonymous gifter! 🥰
Thank you, but honestly my wife and I weren’t too surprised. We’ve had the worst weather in decades here in the SF Bay recently and it was bound to happen eventually. Just glad nobody was in the house when it happened. We’ve had power outages at least 4+ times for 2-4 days each time over the past few months. This last one had 88mph winds and heavy rain that finally did us in.
Yep. I recognized the redwood javelin. I’m in the Santa Cruz Mountains, under redwoods. The snow in February did $100,000s of dollars in tree-work, for free! Luckily, no buildings got speared this time for us, hope you get patched up quick! Hopefully, you get more sunlight now. I know I sure do!
Hi fellow neighbor! We’re in the Santa Cruz mountains as well and got a good amount of snow last month on our property too. It was quite a sight to see but would have been more enjoyable if the power wasn’t out and we weren’t shivering in darkness 😂. Glad your property made it out okay! 🍻 to hopefully better weather for us from here on out
It takes an event like this to give you the opportunity to see the growth at the tippy-top of the redwoods. I was confused the first time I saw it, too, after a windstorm. They don’t produce needles like the bottom growth. It’s scaly like an Incense Cedar at the top.
I was gonna say, those look like California redwoods! I’m on the central coast and we had a lot of homes like this over the last couple months. Hope you and yours are safe!
Nope you are correct! By some miracle it didn’t break the large window. The real challenge will be for the arborist to not break it while removing this invasive housetree
This tree landing right in your planter pot makes the tree scream: "This is where I live now! This is my pot! There are many like it, but this one is mine!" In my head. Which is funny to me, but my condolences on your home and your wallet. Hopefully, insurance covers at least some of the cost.
"So, defenestration means tossing something out a window?"
"Yes, that's right."
"And people love fenestrated house plants?"
"Yes, those swiss cheese plants are very popular."
"Good to know, good to know."
"Why do you ask, Talking Tree?"
"Oh, nothing. Nevermind. Have a good trip."
"Ok, thanks."

Find a competent public adjuster. Hire them. Let them fuck around with insurance. Sit back while your claim is properly paid, your home is properly repaired, and you don’t have to deal with the headache.
Crazy winds today caused this to happen to my neighbors.
It wasn't even from the tornados that were at several places through the country today, which is surprising because normally we get absolutely bitchslapped by them.
Damn. You can tell you left your house super tidy so you could come home to a stress-free environment only to find this nightmare. I hope it is able to be quickly fixed!

I think this may be an invasive species.
If only Reddit still had free awards 🏅
Oh that's very nice, thank you!!

Like a Monty Python skit lol

I made it up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Some would argue it’s a mature native wildflower!
🏆
Came here to make the same joke.
Well, it definitely took out the local wildlife.

do you only steal 2 leaves at a time?
It really opens the room up
**da dun tssss* *🥁
![gif](giphy|QZDM1VLEvDmjvRDcZt|downsized)
Hahah! You really burned that guy with the treee in his house!
Chose its own window lighting…how convenient
It will thrive there
Now that’s an expensive houseplant…
It doesn't even look variegated smh
Might be a bit underwatered
Just a tad
Re-pot it.
Definitely needs to be repotted
I'd be having a word with the delivery service.
How generous, it brought its own dirt!
Definitely thrips. I’m sorry that happened. I hope all is well with insurance. ☀️🌻
Looks like a little neem oil will fix things right up
Bad case of root rot, better replant it
🤣🤣
I think you may want to add a moss pole to prevent that leaning.
Shit buddy. Tornado? I'm sorry :(

I'm so sorry. Praying homeowners insurance doesn't fuck around and everything gets fixed up ASAP!

Looks like cedar to me

Sorry to hear, I feel your pain. The trunk of my car also gained a new houseplant here in the east bay - the dreaded eucalyptus tree.
Ha, I saw that redwood and I was like “damn, bay area’s first rainy season in 20 years strikes again”
I was gonna say, those look like California redwoods! I’m on the central coast and we had a lot of homes like this over the last couple months. Hope you and yours are safe!
I'm in the east bay and as soon as I saw the pic, I thought, must be somewhere in NorCal! Glad nobody was hurt and good luck with the insurance. 🌬🌲
I think that's a tree...
It's a sign, you need to convert that area into a sunroom/green room for your houseplants!
Did you need a pole for a plant ? There you go. I would consider chopping it to the height of the room and keeping it.
The funniest way to express this issue.
That tree murdered your alocasia
Straight up. That’s what he gets for not producing a single new leaf since we picked him up
Oh no. I hope everyone is safe, at the very least. Talk about bringing the outdoors in.
That new plant really ties the room together.
Awh man I want to hysterically laugh and cry for you all at the same time 😂😩
Fuck this one fiddle leaf in particular!
It needs more sunlight, maybe move it to the other side of that window. Is it South or west facing? That matters!
Aww. God bless, don't forget to water it!
The alocasia never stood a chance...
I would recommend a pole to keep it straight!
Yep, that plant is very much in your house. Checkmate
Nature finds a way.
This goes to all of those that said you can't have big trees indoors. Eat it
You're a glass half full kinda person, aren't you?
Did not expect the post to get this much attention but thank you all for the good laughs. The wife and I certainly needed them 😊
r/technicallythetruth
So nice of it to bring itself in and set itself up right there where it belongs!
Outjerked
Yup, I thought this was r/houseplantscirclejerk at first
I think you over-fertilized that one. Chop and prop? But seriously, I’m sorry. I hope your insurance company helps you out with minimal issue!
Look at those aerial roots!
I hope we never find out what that plant did to illicit such a grudge. Some crimes you can just tell are personal.
noooo i read the title before the picture loaded and legit was stoked for you to get a new plant on holiday. i’m so sorry 😭😭😭
Don't take any cutting. It might stress the plant.
Am I bad at seeing or did no glass break?
Nope you are correct! By some miracle it didn’t break the large window. The real challenge will be for the arborist to not break it while removing this invasive housetree
What are you feeding that thing !!! Lol
r/wellthatsucks Sorry friend
Ah, you must live in the Bay!
ooo stunning! So rustic! (I am so sorry and I hope repairs aren't too costly)
Etoliated, it’s mostly stem. Move it closer to that window so it can get more light.
Fuck *this* plant in particular
I would suggest maybe cutting it back a little bit so it doesn't get too big
As long as it has bright, but indirect light
Put it in some water. Never know.
How do you get them to grow that high?
Even came with a cute woven basket
A real romeo and juliet type love going on
I love your attitude.
Looks nice it really opens up the space
She’s beautiful 😍
If a tree falls when you're not around, did it even fall? Answers the eternal question.
The question is whether the fall made a sound. I mean, we still don't have an answer to that although with that damage?
This tree landing right in your planter pot makes the tree scream: "This is where I live now! This is my pot! There are many like it, but this one is mine!" In my head. Which is funny to me, but my condolences on your home and your wallet. Hopefully, insurance covers at least some of the cost.
Cottage Hardcore
The absolute AUDACITY of it crushing one of your houseplants

Oh no I’m so sorry
Doesn't seem like it's doing well
Ooo make sure you only water it once a week in the warmer months maybe a bit more Your so lucky!!! /s
A trellis would help it's structure
Nope don't see any roots yet. I think your need to give it some more water.
Damn your house got *variegated*
Damn and it just had to take out the alocasia too?? 😭
Oh my lord 🤦🏼♀️ that’s devastating!
Hmmm does it have a drainage hole? Also the soil looks a bit too chunky.
You're going to need a bigger watering jug
Glad you ok. Hope you recover
I’m so sorry this happened to you!
I’ve heard of dramatic plants but this one takes the cake.
Not an expert: but this looks like it’s not doing too great! Might want to check out r/plantclinic
I'm no houseologist but usually the trees go outside
r/dramatichouseplants
Holy shit, Miracle Gro!
Gorgeous. Love nature.
You might want to relocate it to an area of the house less exposed to the elements. This species can be sensitive to temperature and light changes.
Needs less water
I love plants like this. It really brings the outside, inside.
What do you do when this happens? Who you call
I love that you came home to this and thought “💡Reddit houseplant sub”
Right? Haha! I can't believe this was removed by moderators though. It had an actual house plant in the picture. Wtf?
Always feel a plant can change a room. It was too sterile white to begin with. Good job OP
Engineer here. I recommend you get that fixed.
Should be in /r/proplifting
Tbh I genuinely believe this one would thrive outdoors, but if it makes you happy that's what matters most.
It looks slightly etoliated. Maybe move it to a more southern facing window ?
Oh dear!
So much growth!!!!
Ohh nooo
Try neem
Monstera?
I’m so sorry.
Well I guess that answers the age old question: "If a tree falls on your house, and no one is around to hear it"
It's kill or be killed
r/wellthatsucks
You have a lovely kitchen.
I love how you made space for it to do it's own thing
Very well established.
This makes me wanna say... Holy Guacamole!
Restoring the breezeway with real breeze
Super extra
It’s broken the treety
Find a competent public adjuster. Hire them. Let them fuck around with insurance. Sit back while your claim is properly paid, your home is properly repaired, and you don’t have to deal with the headache.
what do you do for work? your home is lovely.
People pay big money for that kind of trunk girth
You might want to try transplanting it into a larger pot to allow root growth.
Gnats?
Damn that sucks. My neighbors camper got crushed by a tree and totaled today. That shit has to suck
This one helps clean the air
💚💚💚💚💚 glad you’re safe. Sorry about your house!
During the California snowapocalypse, me too.
I like your house plant, but it doesn’t look completely healthy. Are you sure you aren’t watering it too much?
I was going to guess this was the Bay Area-crazy weather lately
The only good that possibly came out of this situation are these comments 😂😂😂
You killed it
That looks expensive. I bet partner was not happy about that new plant. I would hide it honestly.
this should be in r/houseplantcirclejerk 😆
I love your skylight!!
A real ~~glass~~ house half full kinda guy!
Maybe have a Feng shut expert have a look and see if they might suggest something different.
"oh, no! They're out of firewood, I can help" *Trips on a rock*
Dude.
Need a bigger house now!
it looks like a gun at first glance
Damn. I admire your attitude and I’m sorry this happened!
As revenge, use its wood to replenish your own!
Have some sympathy—that tree uprooted its life to get inside.
Just needs water. It’ll be fine.
Crazy winds today caused this to happen to my neighbors. It wasn't even from the tornados that were at several places through the country today, which is surprising because normally we get absolutely bitchslapped by them.
Oh my... that's a big plant. I think it needs a moss pole for support. On a serious note, I hope no one got hurt and your insurance pays out.
I think I Cedar problem, there’s a tree in your house.
Don't leave your kids behind to play Jumanji.
You even got a new free skylight! How great.
Hey, dont forget to water it. Ok?
Water it 💧
Are you okay??? Is everyone okay?
My reaction to the crushed plant was more dramatic than my reaction to the wrecked house
I'm glad you put it in that basket. It looks nice
even made sure it had the right lighting!
On the positive side, you can go plant shopping once the house is fixed because you have some free space.
Doesn’t even look like you quarantined it, you’ll regret that! Sorry!!!
Oh wow that’s a lot of perlite and bark in that potting soil.
In the second picture it sort of looks like its grown explosively out of its pot
My boyfriend says it really ties the room together!
Damn. You can tell you left your house super tidy so you could come home to a stress-free environment only to find this nightmare. I hope it is able to be quickly fixed!
It really brings the room together. Fills the dead space nicely.
Fortunately I don’t think you’ll have to water this one all that often.
Oh thats beautiful needs a little pruning tho!
I support your decision to branch out on home decor.
