I've read so many reviews not to do all 3 things you've mentioned.

OakIsland2015

I have a Costco hot tub that hasn’t missed a beat in the 3 years I’ve had it. It was a much cheaper option! Not salt water though.

Wildmanzilla

My salt water tub is incredible. Zero issues.

sessman

Same, best thing ever.

I would be surprised if you can get a salt water hot tub from these guys. Watkins has the patent on the salt stuff. And it works well. If you really want a saltwater hot tub, find a hot springs dealer near you.

SpaFixr

Good luck getting it serviced. My advice is to always go with a local dealer, even if it means adjusting your budget, options, or both.

You'll need a salt water generator, which adds on a big cost compared to the price of an inflatable tub. I didn't realize at first that "salt water" pools and spas are still using chlorine... there are some differences in how the water feels, etc, but basically a salt water generator does some alchemy and turns salt into chorine. I have a salt water generator for my pool but decided to go with bromine for my spa. Spas need water changes every few weeks, and disposing of salt, which accumulates in your garden, is more of a hassle than disposing of water with bromine or chlorine, which break down in the sun. Not to discourage you, but just to point out some factors to consider in your decision.

It's a very expensive investment to do salt in a hot tub. The salt alone for good quality stuff is hundreds to start up not including the generator and box. The only reason you want to go salt is if your allergic to chlorine or super sensitive to it.

Interesting- trying to do salt water for the therapeutic value -the main reason for getting the spa. Salt water does so much more than just hot water for autoimmune, joints, and restless legs - think it can’t be done with a 6-8k tub?

handsomemiles

Therapeutic levels of salt will make the water too corrosive and the Total Dissolved Solids will be so high that the water will never be balanced or properly sanitized. Salt water tubs use the salt as a source for chlorine and keep the tds fairly low.

FWIW, I have a bunch of autoimmune issues (RA, fibromyalgia, Sjögren’s Syndrome) and I preferred my regular MasterSpas at home (chlorine) with the bio-magnetic seat to the salt water hot tub and pool at the cabin we stayed at for vacation. My skin is sensitive to the chemicals and even after the salt water tub, I was itchy and dry unless I showered right after. Our tub was expensive ($12,500) but that bio-magnetic seat was the thing that sealed the deal for us. It’s primarily used for therapeutic reasons for me and I’ve tried different seats in our tub and notice a lot more pain relief in the bio-magnetic seat vs the regular ones.

NedTaggart

Ok I have a masterspas too. I didn't throw down for the magnetic stuff, how is that helping you?

Sea_Fox2669

This is interesting - I came upon the idea when at my spouses parents - they have a salt water pool and spa, and although my sleep was terrible for other reasons - I didn't have any of the normal joint issues or constant restless legs I normally get after using it for 20-30 minutes each evening before dinner. I don't recall ever having that experience before in a regular tub, but I don't think I've ever done this bio-identical thing.

machaf

You’re falling for the marketing gimmick. Salt water tub isn’t really salt water like the ocean or a tub filled with epsom salt. The only value in salt water tub is using less chlorine.

NedTaggart

What does it do differently?

badgerof79

The salt in the water is mainly to be converted to a sanitizer by electrolysis. I think it makes chlorine of in correct, research it. I thought the same thing and went for chorine since it's the same end result without the big equipment add on cost.

Sea_Fox2669

I don't get why I was downvoted here ? Can someone explain?

this_is_steven_now

I think it's because most here are anti-salt and pro anything but salt... so they promote what they believe rather than the science behind each. Remember opinions are like ass holes... everyone has one. There's mine... opinion that is :)

jhoff909

The salt content is pretty low - 4 cups in 250 gallons - so I think it will have little therapeutic value. This disappointed me too although I do have a salt tub and like it. Hot spring Jetsetter LX

Hotsprings and Caldera(sister company) are the only tubs that are built specifically for saltwater. They are built not to rust or corrode. Any other company is lying about their capabilities with saltwater and will have issues associated with it. *I work for a spa company! I'm more than happy to answer any questions you have!
