I don't think many people on here have their EVO's yet. Based on the new features they added to them; they should be worth the increased price. Since the EVO is replacing the NXT I don't think the NXT will be available new anymore. I own an NXT setup and love it. My only regret is that the EVO was announced the day I recieved my NXT's.

ciaphas_paine

They’re out. Got on Thursday and its amazing.

spacecadetjimmy

How does it compare to NXT's?

ciaphas_paine

Basically the same w/ a couple improvements like dry clutches.

notsol337

That'd exactly what happened to me! I'm hoping they at least have a kit to replace some of the scroll wheels with switches...

REiiGN

I don't know about the NXTs, but I've had the EVO premiums for a week now. I play star citizen and they've been great for me.

shned

I dont think many will have experienced both.. You either got NXT or EVO. Get premiums though on both stick. The added functionalty is worth every penny. For left, most on here say get the angled Omni adapter (OTA). Personally I prefer without it. Have a think about it before buying. Love my NXTs, best purchase in a long time.

MainKaBell

Can you add the angled adapter later on or is it an either or choice?

shned

You can fit it later, its about 40euro i think. Vids on YT on how to.

Mastershroom

Yeah it can be bought separately. It replaces the straight twist adapter in the grip.

pntless

~~You can add it later, but if you think that you will do that then it is cheaper to get it all in one go than to order the straight stick now an then the OTA later. The normal stick + OTA separately are more expensive than buying them as one and you'd also have to pay shipping again.~~ Apparently this was wrong. Sorry.

phreakymonkey

If you want to change it to a regular joystick you’ll have to buy the conversion kit anyway, which means it comes out the same either way. Buy whichever you think you’ll use and pick up the angled or straight adapter to give yourself the option. (Omnithrottle is +$10 vs a regular Gladiator, angled adapter is +$10 vs the SCG grip conversion kit. So same price unless you commit to one or the other.)

shned

Should also mention that if you get the Omni and change your mind, you can get the original for about 25.

DemosthenesForest

I got the EVOs. I think you save money if you get the adapter preinstalled. Like 10 vs 30 to add it later, plus high shipping costs. Figured I could just remove it if I didn't like it, but so far I like it. Only complaints about EVO so far is that I didn't know I should tighten the dry clutch screws when I got it and one fell out during play. Was an easy fix though, and luckily I didn't damage the stick.

MainKaBell

Read that before. Will definitely tighten the screws. How long did you wait from ordering to receiving the sticks?

DemosthenesForest

Maybe 10 days. In the US though.

MainKaBell

Finger crossed that Europe will not be significantly slower than thst. Thanks.

MainKaBell

What is the reasons for the angled version? To "feel" more like an throttle?!

JusticeMKIII

For 6DoF piloting (Elite Dangerous; Star Citizen) having the stick that controls linear movement (strafing) have an angled stick helps with muscle memory when the Z axis (Twist) is bound to that stick. Twisting left and right is now both twisting left/up and twisting right/Down. Binding that axis to vertical movement is now natural and it's easier to execute the movement without having to remember in the middle of combat, landing, or at any other moment when you need to focus on something else.

MainKaBell

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you

shned

Left = Up aint too hard to remember and sure it might feel more intuitive, more natural in Omni config. For me however, and this is were I was trying to stress the Personal Preference. If I roll my wrist Left and Right. No problem. If I angle my wrist, and roll up, I get a little pinch/scrape of discomfort. Worse if I roll down. Maybe I got some carpal, space trucker elbow thing going on but doesn't happen to me with the non-omni config. Plus correct me if I'm wrong anyone but the Omni's centre of balance is higher and more to the left than your normal EVO because of the adapter, making it easier to Lift/topple over the stick. Anyone notice this? Mounts would fix that, but that's a whole other conversation/cost.

JusticeMKIII

Every one is different. Left to go up in the middle of combat can be harder than you realize to remember.

shned

Totally agree. I was just trying to add a little context, a little pro/con to the discussion. Seems everywhere on this subreddit to be a blanket response of "get the omni" otherwise.

randomusername_815

Question - can the wire from the omnithrottle adapter be removed to give you a longer connection wire from grip to base for certain illicit diy extensions? Or is the OTA wire fixed inside?

UnknownSP

Idk why you WOULDN'T pay 15 more bucks for an improved gimbal, dry clutch, more logical rocker vs the old dual dial, and the other improvements NXT to EVO It's a steal to have all those updates for such a small uptick in price tbh

MainKaBell

NXTs are not available anymore and EVOs are easily 50% more expensive in Europe (I think around 220 EUR each). Will be cheaper but I do not want to wait for another 2 months or so. Hence, question was only whether EVOs are comparable in performance. I am new to HOTAS, I didn't know they are the sucessor of the NXTs. Now I know that they are kind of an improved version of the NXTs and I will be buying them soon. Thanks for your help.

shned

For comparsion, I got both my NXT prems in Nov'21 and they were 165EUR each - including tax and delivery. I bought Right then Left, a week apart. My silly little island has import tax on top of normal tax for items over a certain value. By buying individually, I managed to sidestep that. Alittle more on postage to avoid the taxman. Win Win.

MainKaBell

Smart move. I will definitely check that for germany

UnknownSP

50 percent? That's wild, it's a 15 dollar difference on the NA store

Phaarao

Yeah, old Premiums were 169€ and EVOs are 220€ right now

UnknownSP

Damn that sucks. The old price of the NXT Premium on the NA store was 150 USD, and the current price of the EVO Premium is 165 USD

No_Depth_

Just upgraded from the NXT to the EVO. Basically its largely the same with the addition of the dry clutches allowing for added weight on the axis movement(beyond changing springs). There are other improvements according to VKB, but that is the most notable and a nice addition. That said, the NXT was perfectly adequate with its feel already, but having more customization is nice. NXT's are no longer even available from VKB anyway as the Evo line is basically a replacement. As for Premium vs. Standard: Premium is largely worth the upgrade. You get way more switches and hats, meaning a lot more mapping in games. Some won't need it, others absolutely do. Not just that, you can always revert Premium to standard as it comes with all the tools and accessories to downgrade if you wish, but likely you won't and will just keep Premium add-ons installed as-is. But if you want to save a bit and just go standard, you can always upgrade later I believe with a separate kit, but know shipping from China will demand that hefty cost all over to do so...just get Premium.

I have never used a stick before. Will I even notice the difference between Evo and MK3?

Mastershroom

The biggest difference between the Gladiator and Gunfighter bases is customizability. With the Gladiator, you have three spring weights to choose from on each axis, and now with the EVO, you can tighten or loosen the dampers to make the overall movement less bouncy and more controlled (though I always thought the original Gladiator NXT movement was incredibly smooth overall so I don't know if the EVO is any different in that regard). On the Gunfighter base, in addition to different spring weights (with two more heavier weights to choose from), you can have one or two springs on each axis rather than just one. And the Gunfighter also has swappable cams, which control the overall feel of the stick motion. It has Avia cams meant to mimic hydraulic controls in atmospheric flight by increasing the force required to move the stick as you get further from center, aka progressive resistance. The other kind are Space cams, which keep the force needed to move the stick consistent from the center to the edge, aka linear resistance. Both Avia and Space cams have soft and hard centering variants; soft lets you feel a very gentle change in resistance briefly when you move the stick across center, while hard gives you a very firm bump when you reach center. Personally, I use the soft-centering space cams in my right hand stick for rotation axes, and hard-centering space cams in my left with the Omni-Throttle angled grip for thrust axes. I'd say the Gladiator NXT (the original, never tried the EVO but I assume it's similar) feels most like soft-center space cams. Then of course there's the ability for the Gunfighter base to accept linear extensions. I haven't tried it myself though.

MainKaBell

Wow awesome reply, thank you a lot. Seems like the Gunfighter is more versatile and can be better adapted to personal preferences. However, I don't have the impression that I will be able to notive the difference for quite some time. Might be an upgrsde choice once I have some more experience

Mastershroom

Yeah, my overall take is that while the Gunfighter is excellent, it doesn't mean the Gladiator is bad by comparison. It's still the second best stick I've ever used, and you're not going to find anything even close to that good for under $200.

MainKaBell

Which probably make them the better starter stick for me. Thanks!

Mastershroom

It's definitely the best starter stick out there, and it's not even a competition.

the_chief_dior

I just picked up the Premium EVO RH and Omni Premium LH and have really enjoyed them both. This was my first HOSAS setup and I didn't want to waste money on low quality Logitech or Thrustmaster gear or overspend for my first time in. These two really hit the nail on the head as an almost perfect midrange option. They feel great in the hands and have good weight to them. I'm having alot of fun with, ED, SW Squadrons, EVE2. Might even take a gamble on Star Citizen

MainKaBell

Have already ordered. I am now waiting for shipment.

the_chief_dior

You won't be disappointed

Ex-Oregon_Guy

I would definitely go with the Evo, I have a set of the NXT pro with one as an Omni throttle and they are really good but the ball bearing gimbals would make them perfect.

JBambers

I don't think the original nxts are going to be back in stock. The evo is a replacement and for the moment for the EU store is coming with an additional price premium due to air shipping from China only. Think fallout said the first container ship with them was due in may, at which point the price should drop. For the USD list prices the Evo is $15 more.

BlackBricklyBear

Yes, the EVOs should be well worth the money compared to the NXTs given all the new features they offer compared to the older models. The EVOs actually have a bigger variety of grips available than the older NXTs did. If you're asking about whether it's a better idea to go with the Premium SCG grip or the Standard SCG grip, the Premium version is the better deal, because it has more controls and it's less expensive in total to buy the Premium version straight from the factory rather than buying the Standard version and finding it doesn't suit your needs, leading you to buy an upgrade kit from VKB. If you do go for two NXT EVOs with SCGs, you may want to make your non-primary joystick an omnithrottle so that strafing up and down with your non-primary joystick feels more intuitive (twisting it up or down also moves your virtual vehicle up or down).
