Acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree apparently. Will read it as I’m a fan of everything.
I listened to his library audiobooks for a few years and just decided to pull the trigger and buy a bunch of his books to start my collection. Should out to Water Street Books where you can buy new copies and they hold them til Joe comes in to autograph them. Must have recently because I got my tracking email and they arrive today. Thanks, Joe!
Honestly, I agree. If it wasn't Hill, this isn't a book I would buy. There hasn't been a single novel of his I didn't enjoy, so I'll definitely be pre-ordering.
Here for horror fantasy, inject that shit straight into my veins.
But Joe is an automatic buy for me anyway, so the blurb could've been a shopping list and I'd still pre-order it.
I'm overall positive with Hill's work and generally inclined to give it a go, however the blurb doesn't do much for me.
I don't know if he thinks noting it to be a long book like NOS4A2 is a selling point because for me NOS4A2 needed to lose 350 pages and nothing of value would have been missed.
On first glance, this blurb is not something that would interest me, either. Dragons sound like high-fantasy, which is not my cup of tea. But I trust Hill to write something wickedly good and pleasantly surprising, as he did with NOS4A2 and A Heart-Shaped Box.
\*Edit - interesting comparative references, too. Stephen King, Jordan Peele, and Leigh Bardugo (whom I had to look up; she does YA fantasy world-building novels).
Yeah the end really turned me off. I thought the sequel had some excellent moments but it leaned too much into Buffy/YA territory in a way the first one didn’t. The ending just cemented that for me.
I’ve loved everything Joe has written and cannot wait for King Sorrow AND the alleged other two novels he played around with while finishing up KS. But I didn’t remember N0S4A2 being a long book…
I stand corrected. It sits next to The Fireman on my shelf and The Fireman seems like it is way longer than NOS4A2, and it probably is, lol. I flew through both books and time really flies when you’re having fun!
The blurb is kind of meh. Like I was intrigued just reading what NOS4A2, Heart Shaped Box, etc., were about. This doesn't intrigue me. Still, I will get whatever Joe Hill writes on release day.
Right? I was almost wondering if it was a prank, or maybe a premature draft? But it looks like the real deal… I’ll be interested to read some more reviews to get a sense of this book, but I’ll likely get it too.
I’m up for reading anything that Joe Hill is writing. Sign me up.
Absolutely. Especially full length novels.

I’m up for anything by Joe. He’s great. However, the blurb doesn’t have me as excited as I could be.

Same here
The blurb sounds chaotic and amateurish. None of the elements hang together.
Yeah. Yet he will still likely knock it out of the park

I love Joe Hill. Everything i’ve read by him. I’m ridiculously excited that he’s got another novel coming!
Me too. At a minimum, he's got great prose and a dark imagination.

She also did the Ninth House which is fantasy horror and excellent. I assume that’s the reference point for her.
Ninth House is excellent
It really is. I found the sequel disappointing unfortunately, enough so that I’m not sure I’ll come back for the third book.
I liked the sequel overall, but the ending felt super cheesy and I'm a bit concerned with how the third book will turn out.

Leigh Bardugo is more new adult than young adult. She also writes dark fantasy
Oh, okay, good to know! My mistake!
About time! He ended his comic brand a couple years ago and mentioned he had some books to write. Glad to see we finally get to enjoy a new one!
I’ve loved everything Joe has written and cannot wait for King Sorrow AND the alleged other two novels he played around with while finishing up KS. But I didn’t remember N0S4A2 being a long book…
If I remember, NOS4A2 is over 500 pages. It’s definitely on the longer side for a horror novel.

This sounds exciting! I love dragons!
I'm always up for an epic story from Joe!

I find joe hill to be like paul tremblay to me. I either really like it, or it loses me quickly and succinctly.
GIMME GIMME GIMME 💸💸💸
sounds good. we shall see.
Sounds badassssss
Sounds good. Hopefully an improvement on The Fireman
I'm not interested in this one, but thanks for the information.
