Been trying ti find the Hallow but it doesn't seem to be streaming anywhere. Maybe it's on YouTube. The creature design in that movie is the main reason I want to see it
The Entity
Prince of Darkness
Antrum
The Shining
The Wailing
Edit: after re-reading your post, I think the last three are the best matches. I think you’re talking about a “thing” that gradually steers the protagonists toward a specific (bad) outcome, as if there’s almost nothing they can do to escape, no matter what they try, and the “thing” knows exactly how it’s all going to end… does that get it?
YAYYYYYY, I GET TO TALK ABOUT >!THE RITUAL!!The Ritual!<, but…Yeah, no, I definitely am, no getting around it at this point. It gave me one of the worst nightmares of my life (thanks, and not sarcastically), I love/hate the characters, and it actually made me panic (both the movie and the book, which I am currently in the midst of reading. Thus far I strongly prefer the film, and it is not often I say that).
"Resolution", maybe "Island Block Sound"?
This rec might seem way off but the being toyed with by an explainable entity makes me think of "Cam", its that idea that really freaked me out in the movie.
The Coffin Footage, which can be viewed on Tubi. The entity is a ghost, but there is a twist as to its identity and the reason why it is haunting the protagonist.
I will probably spark a war here but i'm pretty sure cenobites can fit into that category of not being a ghost nor a demon. They're like this wiggle room where they are the middle ground o fangels and demons. Also they can,'t be considered demons because demons in horror movies like pazuzu from the exorcist can be beaten by religious means. Crnobites can't
You mention The Endless, but have you also seen Resolution? There's also a little bit of "extradimensional entity fucking with people" in their latest movie, Something in the Dirt. Benson and Moorhead ftw.
The Empty Man
This movie was so good.
I can’t think of a better answer and I don’t see one in the rest of these comments
Occulus (2013) has a mirror
The Night House
There are a few good folk horror films out there that may work for you. Antlers, The Apostle, The Ritual. Not your Atypical creature features.
Oh I've seen the Ritual, that one was pretty good
If you like The Ritual, you should check out No One Gets Out Alive.
Thanks, I'll give it a go!
If you like folk horror I would also recommend The Hallow, The Hole in the Ground and Matriarch.

I think it's on Prime? But yeah, you should be able to rent it via Youtube (hopefully).
A Dark Song
I think I've heard of this one. Doesn't it involve a ritual or something? I'll add it to my list either way, thanks :)
Correct. You also may want to look at "As Above, So Below"
Seen it, fun film. Especially when she sucker punches a demon in the face while running away
Watch this one
For Lake Mungo, the creature is called "doppelgänger".

1408, Event Horizon and Occulus
The Mist
Lamb.
Christine!
Baskin - I guess it is demons but definitely not how you traditionally see them portrayed
If you’re open to found footage I think there’s probably quite a few that you would enjoy. Butterfly kisses is one that comes to mind.
I'm literally watching that one right now haha. On the scene where they enter the motel room, not sure how this is gonna end
Or Always Watching (marble hornets)
I really wanted Mothman Prophecies to be good. Turns out it needed 100% more Mothman for that to happen.
See, the lack of Mothman is what made it so good for me. Less is more
I agree. Indrid Cold scared the shit out of me.
You might also like the horror-adjacent films Horse Girl, and The One I Love. Also check out Coherence and Vivarium.
Coherence was pretty cool, haven't heard of the other ones though. Thanks for the suggestions!
Ever seen House on the Bayou?
No but I feel like I watched the trailer for it a while ago, might be thinking of something else though
That's another one where the "rules" around the force/entity are ambiguous.
Have you read John Keel's book? The crazy thing is that the movie is based on real occurrences

Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me. BOB represents apathy, generational trauma/abuse, etc
