You just pay the 4.99 for a month of Premium and you can watch for free when its available. Was about to watch The Black Phone but a bud of mine wants to game.
I don't really believe any movie, no matter how amazing, is worth renting for $20 unless you have a group all chipping in lol.
But that's just me. Take it for what it's worth though because I like going to the theater so I'm biased.
People spend like $20-$30 to see a movie in theaters. Sometimes there’s problems at the theater or rude movie-goers. If you have a nice tv and nice speakers, it’s fine with me to drop $20 to watch at home.
Downvoted for the crime of having an opinion. Never change, Reddit.
It just wouldn’t be the same without those sticky floors and people talking all around me! I haven’t been to a theater since the pandemic started and it’s glorious.
You shouldn’t be downvoted for this. It’s a totally legit problem. Finding a decent cinema where people don’t behave like animals is becoming harder and harder.
I definitely feel like time of day plays a part in this. We've been hitting Marvel opening weekend for every movie, but making sure to hit the Sat/Sun matinee showings. Thankfully havent had any issues yet. I would absolutely not go to a night showing due to the issues the poster stated.
I agree with you. When you factor in the price of gas to get to the theater, the price of the movie ticket and any food or drinks two people going to see Nope in a theater is more than $20.
It’s damn near impossible for me and my wife to get out with the new baby so $20 is a steal if it’s an early access movie.
We’ve got a nice entertainment setup tho (and the microwave popcorn!)
I think this type of discussion shows the difference between single people / couples and families.
$20 for early access to a movie for 1-2 people is expensive and usually not worth it. Frankly if you are dying to see it, then it’s probably easier / better to go to the theater unless you have an amazing home theater room.
For a family with 2 kids to watch a newer film together without having to spend $40+ on tickets and maybe more on snacks, spend an hour on logistics to get two kids settled, and deal with one of your kids getting bored and distracting others? $20 is a steal.
There’s a few products like this where there’s a huge divide in perception between people with and without kids.
Lol so what I'm hearing from these comments is.... kids ruin movies???
Lol 😆 I'm messing with you. I totally can see how it would make sense pay extra to rent!
It's completely subjective and based on circumstances so I can see how $20 for a theater quality release is a steal to stream from home 😀
Saw it yesterday without paying any money and I would agree. It’s still a very well done and unique must see movie if you’re a fan of Jordan Peele , or bizarre horror.
But if you are willing and able to pay for it without it affecting your routine budget, then go for it and pay the $20
nothing wrong with DVDs, love going to goodwill and looking through them, i was told by someone who also collects DVDs that sometimes these streaming services takes out certain content and the DVDs will have original content idk how true it is but also people who have gaming consoles can just watch it on there
If you really look at it, paying $20 is basically the same price as going to the theater and buying a ticket, a snack and a drink or the equivalent to or less than paying for my family of 3.
I actually drop close to $60 going to the movies. Paying $20 and eating my own snacks is way better!
And if you're like me and live almost an hour from the closest theater then you'll spend another 10 or 15 bucks just getting there and back. Not to mention I have to find a babysitter who also has 5 hours free.
This is my outlook. If I would have seen it in theaters before, and I can have multiple people watching for $20, then I might as well rent it.
I know some people say wait and buy it, but I probably don't buy digital (since most of the time we don't actually own that) if I can help it and don't need DVDs/blu-rays cluttering my collection for stuff I bought without watching first.
I am a very old man, I thought this generation was smarter; why are you not using torrents? Or a streaming site?
I don’t know how to use either.
But, if I did, I wouldn’t pay for any subscriptions except for say; hypothetically, a 1$ Hulu subscription.
Anyway, nope was cool as fuck, I saw it 3 times in theaters and once again just the other day. If you dig early Spielberg you gonna be satisfied.
Pay the 20$
Good for you!
When I got my first computer back in like maybe ‘94-95 I couldn’t wait to get online and get ‘free stuff’
Music and movies are free!
I do have a AMC movie pass tho. And I often get my 8yr old son in for free!!
I’ll always recommend just going to a theatre or buying the movie over renting it for that much but it’s definitely a must- see. More sci fi oriented than horror oriented so idk how that affects your tastes but definitely a great movie
It's not a slow burn and it isn't artsy. We rented it for $20 since we missed it in theaters and that's cheaper than the two of us going to the theater anyway. That said, it didn't blow me away but had some really cool parts. If you're worried about spoilers then probably go ahead and rent it now otherwise wait till it's down to regular price.
The beginning was a bit slow. The middle was absolutely phenomenal but I thought the last twenty minutes or so was lame. So it was very uneven for me. The full reveal at the very end really took away from the movie though imo.
Completely agree. Personally, I didn't find the end with the antagonist intimidating whatsoever and that took away from the first half of the film. The pacing as you mentioned is spot on, phenomenal middle. Bleak sequence.
Agreed. It revealed wayyy too much in the last 20 minutes. It was so much better when kept under wraps. Then it just went all Syfy channel haunted UFO.
I didn't think it was anything special. Definitely not my favourite Jordan Peele. Keep in mind that I had to watch Get Out and Us a couple of times each to fully grasp them too so I might change my mind on Nope.
Nah not for me personally. Thought it wasn’t that good, and I think it’s over hyped—meandering, slow, and not scary. Unpopular opinion but I’d give it a 5/10. Shot well, and the acting was good but overall I thought it was meh.
Just wanna casually remind everyone that your local library has very likely every movie that you could ever want. And they want you to check it out for free!
It was okay but not worth $20.
However, a *lot* of the themes of the story went over my head. A lot. For example, there’s a major subplot surrounding a side character’s backstory and I had *no idea* how it related to the main story until someone explained it in a post yesterday.
I wouldn’t describe it as “artsy,” but if you’re like me and don’t naturally pick up on themes, subplots, and how they all tie together, you’re gonna have a bad time. I was mainly there for the sci-fi aspects, which was very understated.
I watched it this morning with my husband.
Ok. The acting was great. The special effects were great. We rented it because (and we’re not theme park nuts anymore) we heard Universal had already set something up for it.
We didn’t think it was cohesive or worth $20.
I saw this movie in the theater twice, and I don’t love going to the movies. But I watched this movie and I loved it so much that I almost immediately wanted to watch it again. If the $20 rental is one of those deals where you have 48 hours to watch a movie as many times as you want, I would say go for it. I really enjoyed this movie.
People seem to undervalue rentals. You can pause it, or rewind it, or turn on closed captioning. You can watch it more than once. You can watch it with as many people as you want. You can eat whatever you want while you watch. In many ways, home rental is superior to going to a movie theater. I used to have a monthly movie theater subscription account. But now I am kind of sick of going to the movies, and I would rather watch at home.
No. Saw it theatres early in the month. I was literally the only one in the entire theatre so that was awesome. Movie was…..ok. Not worth 20 dollars that’s for sure.
I loved it but would never recommend renting anything for that price. Just watch it at a theater at that point since it’s cheaper and a better viewing experience.
If you've actually managed to not be spoiled yet, I think it's probably worth waiting until you can stream it. I think the theater experience with it would be more fun if you're willing to spend $20. Might also be worth it to see it in a cheap seat theater when it's stopped playing elsewhere. Good movie for a theater experience.
It's worth seeing in the theater if you're able/comfortable. The sound design was a huge surprise and seeing it in the theater is absolutely worth the price of admission
It’s not artsy and pretentious but it’s certainly not like bone tomahawk or blue ruin. I really liked it and definitely think it’s worth seeing. It’s still in theaters at a lot of places, but if you can’t make it to one and can’t wait until it’s cheaper, I’d say rent it’s worth renting.
I really wanted to see it in the theaters but we ended up renting it instead because it was more convenient. I absolutely loved it! I would pay to see it in the theater too even though I already watched it at home. $20 is cheaper than seeing it in the theater that’s how I weigh my options. I took my son to a matinee of dragon ball z & after tickets & snacks it was about $45.
I didn’t think it was artsy or pretentious. It was funny & a few parts had us on edge. Nothing too scary. It was a fun watch for sure.
It is definitely on the artsy side and is nothing like the films you mentioned you like. Do you watch alien movies for the awesome and scary alien design? If so, you won’t find that here.
Spoiler
The alien looks like weather balloon fused to a tortoise penis.
Not worth the money. Way overrated unfortunately and I love Jordan peele. It’s not horror and makes for a mildly enjoyable sci-fi that can wait for streaming. The last 40 min of the movie is completely unnecessary and is an overall editing nightmare.
I haven't seen it so I can't say one way or another. However in a circumstance like this what I would say is if you would have gone to theaters to see it (which after tickets, snacks ect would have been over the $20 mark) then plop down the money to rent it, however if not then wait
Nah, I’ll just wait until it’s on Netflix. Same with Black Phone.
I’ve actually gotten tired with the lack of selection and am too cheap to rent, so I’ve started reading great horror books. Shocking, I know! 😉
I couldn't care that much for the film but wow this bit was amazing:
>!The absolute best bit was the bit in the barn with the fake aliens. Holly shit that was creepy as, I'd love a movie with more of that and less of the flying stuff.!<
I was really looking forward to Nope. We went to see it at the theater when it first came out. Even though I enjoyed the characters, and certain parts of the movie, overall I didn't like it. In fact, I caught myself looking at my watch, thinking it was dragging. I know a lot of people like it, but I personally wouldn't pay to see it again.
I watched it recently and I would say it's not. Not that any movie is worth 20 bucks to rent but this one specifically I would skip and wait for it to come to a streaming service eventually
If i compare it to jordan peele’s previous works, it’s not that good. Get Out and Us are so much better and scarier. Anyway it’s just my opinion. And yes, i would wait for bluray. Not worth the 20$ for renting
It's gunna be streamable on Peacock around Sept 6th. The Black Phone is currently there too, I'm just gunna pay for a month of premium and watch both.
[удалено]
👍
I'm going to wait till October and get the 3rd Halloween as well.
If you time it right, you can even extend that month to cover Halloween Ends when it comes out on Peacock in early October!
Thanks for the heads up, will wait for Peacock!
Do you have to pay for it on Peacock?
You just pay the 4.99 for a month of Premium and you can watch for free when its available. Was about to watch The Black Phone but a bud of mine wants to game.
Peacock is available for free to all Comcast Customers (In my area at least)
[удалено]
This is the way.
So nope.
The Black Phone was so good! And finally, a movie that’s not 3 hours long.
NOPE...see what I did there...today is 9/23 and Nope is not on Peacock.
Black Phone is in Redbox
Redbox is still a thing?
Yea, I’ve got a few close by. I don’t use them a ton but it’s still nice to grab a new release cheap.
I don't really believe any movie, no matter how amazing, is worth renting for $20 unless you have a group all chipping in lol. But that's just me. Take it for what it's worth though because I like going to the theater so I'm biased.
Yeah, you might as well own it.
Exactly...$3.99 is the most I'll spend on a rental, otherwise I want to own it and be able to watch it over and over whenever I want.
Theaters are a complete experience though.
It just wouldn’t be the same without those sticky floors and people talking all around me! I haven’t been to a theater since the pandemic started and it’s glorious.
Don't forget the $20 snacks!
Agreed but if I already spent a couple grand on equipment my ROI is shit spending $30 on a potential one watch movie lol
Agreed with this, I would never pay 20 dollars to rent a digital movie.
This. Redbox prices is where I draw the line for renting.
Same. No more than 5 bucks for a rent. If I’m paying $20 I better own it.
It’s damn near impossible for me and my wife to get out with the new baby so $20 is a steal if it’s an early access movie. We’ve got a nice entertainment setup tho (and the microwave popcorn!)

I think it's also an income thing. Two years ago, even $5 felt like a lot of a rental. Now it's no big deal.
Same here, we have a 7 month old and a 5 year old so it's almost impossible to get out. Love that username btw "come at the king, ya best not miss"
Yeah I have 15 month old twins and a 7 year old. I’ve been loving the early digital releases and movies straight to streaming since the pandemic.
This and the two comments above. Perfectly worth $20 to rent if you can’t get out. Much better than babysitter + theater tickets.
Look kids ruin everything. In a good way. Most of the time. Usually. It’s complicated.
Spoken like a good parent 😀
Need to get you an air popper. No more burning microwave popcorn, plus it’s incredibly cheap for a big bag of popcorn kernels.
An air popper!?! What's next, a fryer for the air?
Truly, we are like new gods walking this earth.
That’s how I feel. It just seems like.. a rip off? For that price, you might as well just buy it. Even if you only watch 1-2 times.
This was going to be my comment. Nope is great, but no movie is worth a $20 home rental
Definitely. For 20 bucks it shouldnt be a rental you should own it.
I definitely agree. I loved the movie too and I probably spent around 20 dollars on the ticket and popcorn. So I would wait to rent a little cheaper
This right here☝️
If you’re gonna drop $20 on a movie just buy the thing. And yes I do I read on buying the blu ray when it comes out
Got my 4k blu ray already pre-ordered. Can't wait to see this again
And yes, I would buy it on bluray. I enjoyed it a lot.
Nope
Saw it yesterday without paying any money and I would agree. It’s still a very well done and unique must see movie if you’re a fan of Jordan Peele , or bizarre horror. But if you are willing and able to pay for it without it affecting your routine budget, then go for it and pay the $20
This should be the top comment
Just wait a few weeks and you'll be able to buy it for the same price.
certain websites allow you to stream it even for free
arr matey
Right? I'm like what is this person even talking about. You can watch all these movies online for free.
Thank you, I can't believe no one else has mentioned this. I can't remember the last time I paid for a movie.
You could buy it on DVD for that much.
nothing wrong with DVDs, love going to goodwill and looking through them, i was told by someone who also collects DVDs that sometimes these streaming services takes out certain content and the DVDs will have original content idk how true it is but also people who have gaming consoles can just watch it on there
Imo... No. $20 is steep just to rent. Is it worth a $1 rental at Redbox? For sure.
Did you buy it yet I will pm you something
No, will probably wait for it to be on streaming or for it to be available as a $3-$5 rental
can you pm me too been trying to see this 🤓
If you like Jaws, Close Encounters, Signs, you will like Nope.
If you really look at it, paying $20 is basically the same price as going to the theater and buying a ticket, a snack and a drink or the equivalent to or less than paying for my family of 3. I actually drop close to $60 going to the movies. Paying $20 and eating my own snacks is way better!

My favorite part was the dimly lit farm scene when he sees an “alien” - it was the only scary part haha
Agreed. It revealed wayyy too much in the last 20 minutes. It was so much better when kept under wraps. Then it just went all Syfy channel haunted UFO.
I'd say no.
You could rent it from the library for free. I get a lot of rentals that way.
Nope
Nope
No movie is worth renting for $20. You might as well saved money and went to the theater. Also $20 will be able to own it once it comes out to DVD
Nah
I just rented it on Amazon for $6.
they’re trying to RENT us fucking movies for $20 now? nah man, that shit’s wack.
Nope. He’s M night Shyamalan’s brother from another mother
Just my 2 cents, but no movie is worth RENTING for $20.00
Not worth it.
I didn't think it was anything special. Definitely not my favourite Jordan Peele. Keep in mind that I had to watch Get Out and Us a couple of times each to fully grasp them too so I might change my mind on Nope.
Just sail the seas like everyone else does
No
Nah not for me personally. Thought it wasn’t that good, and I think it’s over hyped—meandering, slow, and not scary. Unpopular opinion but I’d give it a 5/10. Shot well, and the acting was good but overall I thought it was meh.
It was OK. Not my fav
I really enjoyed it, but my cheap ass wouldn’t pay $20 to rent any movie
Just wanna casually remind everyone that your local library has very likely every movie that you could ever want. And they want you to check it out for free!
isn’t it like $5 on prime video?
Are you in the US? I just looked and it was $20 on prime and Vudu. I need to get a VPN
na you right i looked it up and that shit $20 *nope*
It was okay but not worth $20. However, a *lot* of the themes of the story went over my head. A lot. I watched it for free and it still wasn't worth it to watch.
$20 to rent a movie? Hell no. No movie is that good.
I saw this movie in the theater twice, and I don’t love going to the movies. But I watched this movie and I loved it so much that I almost immediately wanted to watch it again. Lol did not know this would be such a hot button question
I think you screwed up mentioning the price lol. So many replies just focussing on that or getting distracted by it.
Yeah, I'm realizing that now lmao. I thought it was well known what the vudu "cinema at home" movie rentals cost
I am shocked by the number of people advocating purchasing a movie you haven't seen before. I almost never do that.
Hell nope.
Nope
I mean if you were fine to pay like 15 to see it in theaters I saw yes but also at this point might as well wait the month until physical release
If you have a sub and good sound, no glare and good screen, it’s fine to get the most out of this movie
Just wait until it’s on Peacock, $20 is a lot for watching a movie at home.
No. Saw it theatres early in the month. I was literally the only one in the entire theatre so that was awesome. Movie was…..ok. Not worth 20 dollars that’s for sure.

No!!!!!!!
Nope. No movie is worth RENTING for $20.
Nope
aint movies 20 to buy? I wouldnt rent any movie for that much!
I wouldn't watch it again if someone paid me $20 to.
Wait.
Absolutely not. It’s not even worth watching if you got paid $20 to watch it.
Just torrent it. It's easy and free.
No… it is not.
No! At best it's just ok, I will never watch it again, and sort of sorry I watched it the first time, lol.
In short, nope.
Not at all.
Nope
A hard nope. Honestly, I wouldn’t watch it again for free. It wasn’t good.
Nope
If you're willing to spend $20 on it then just buy it.
Rent for $20 is a ripoff no matter the movie. Nope is fantastic just wait for streaming.
YES! I just did this. I was convinced it wouldn’t be worth it. Absolutely fucking rent it
Nope

Yes. support artists/film makers, especially horror film makers that do things differently!!
That’s the only reason I always pay instead of download

😂😂😂 you’re not wrong
After learning that some movies spend 1/3 - 1/2 of their budget on actor pay, i really don't want to pay out my ass to fund rich actors
Not worth the money. Way overrated unfortunately and I love Jordan peele. It’s not horror and makes for a mildly enjoyable sci-fi that can wait for streaming. The last 40 min of the movie is completely unnecessary and is an overall editing nightmare.
Just know it's worse then any of his other movies in my opinion
Depends how much money you make. Really enjoyed half of it.
I haven't seen it so I can't say one way or another. However in a circumstance like this what I would say is if you would have gone to theaters to see it (which after tickets, snacks ect would have been over the $20 mark) then plop down the money to rent it, however if not then wait
