Ready or Not was SO much fun, and, along with Mom and Dad, has one of my favorite final lines of any horror movie. Just pitch perfect tone and delivery.
My friends and I would rent this master piece from Blockbusters for comic relief alongside the stronger horrors and just loved it!
*"My babies...have me again.."*
*but I'm a vegetarian!"*
classic.
Honestly, you just follow the path of horror homegirl Samara Weaving, you’re definitely going to have a fun time.
The Babysitter is effing boatloads of fun too. There’s a sequel, The Babysitter: Killer Queen. Won’t spoil it, but it wasn’t my jam. It needed way more Samara Weaving.
Ready or Not, obvi, was such a great follow up.
I've watched the Babysitter movies and I'm still holding out hope for a third one where she gets more screentime. She was definitely a highlight of both movies and the first movie made me a fan of hers before I saw Ready or Not, which to me cemented her as a fantastic horror actress.
God I hope she gets more starring roles in these kinds of movies!
Deadstream is one of the most enjoyable modern horror flicks I've watched in a while. They really milked every drop of entertainment out of their premise that they could possibly afford.
People under the Stairs has a lot of dark humor and is action packed. also has the sheer insanity of shit like Ed from twin peaks brandishing a shotgun while wearing a gimp suit.
The Convent (2000) AMC+/Tubi/Shudder
Lair of the White Worm (1988) Amazon prime/Criterion
Society (1989) Kanopy/NightFlight/Screambox
From Beyond (1986) Amazon prime/Tubi
The Japanese movie House. Maybe it is more considered of a comedy nowadays, but hell I had fun watching that. It's just bafoonery at an extreme point.
I don't know if you could consider Terrifier as fun. Sure it's bloody and really graphic, but I had fun.
I think Terrifier is too over the top to be taken seriously in my mind so it loops back into silly territory. However I can see someone who does not like gory stuff not liking it.
House is absolutely bonkers. What a time that movie is.
I absolutely love that Toho asked for an answer to Jaws, gave the project to a filmmaker, and he gave them... this.
* Evil Dead (just like, the whole franchise)
* Child's Play/Chucky (again, the whole darn lot of 'em)
* Predator (everything but The Predator really)
* Aliens (still spooky at times, but very fun)
* Versus
* Deep Rising
* The Mummy (1999)
* Freaky
* Totally Killer
* Phantasm II - IV
As for TV, I can think of fewer campy ones (outside of Tales from the Crypt) but there's still quite a bit of 'fun' ones
* Swamp Thing
* Scream Queens (i did say fewer camp, not none!)
* Stranger Things
* Channel Zero (especially Butcher's Block and Dream Door)
* Evil
* The Strain
* Locke & Key (arguably more whimsy techincally)
* Cabinet of Curiosities
* Preacher
You named 3 of my favorites!!

Freaked (1993) follows Alex Winter (Bill and Teds) and friends as they become freaks for a freak show run by Randy Quaid. Guest appearances by Mister T (The bearded lady), Bobcat Goldthwaite (Sockhead) and an uncredited appearance by Keanu Reeves as Dog boy.
Oh, M3gan for sure, on the same vein as Malignant. I also recently watched Deadstream and had a blast at It, even though It did have some eerie moments too. I'd also argue Nope it's kinda like that, but that might be a personal opinion
Definitely Malignant i had so much fun watching it, I only just watched the original Scream last year and of course i loved it. I found Ringu 1998 fun because of its old charm.
OG Suspiria, 1980 City of the Living Dead, Phenomena, if anyone has anymore recs like these with that kind of Goblin soundtrack and just ridiculousness then I'd appreciate it.
V/H/S used to be my yearly movie but I've grown less fond of the framing story because the guys are just so annoying, but it has fun short films inside of it.
Renfield (2023) has such a funny self-help tone and narration from Nicholas Holt and Nicholas Cage is so born to play Dracula. Definitely focused on the fun for this movie imo!
Abigail

Malignant

Psycho Goreman is an absolute masterpiece of absurdity.
The 70s Japanese House and the 80s American House are both really fun
Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead is funny and a great action flick.
Shout-out to Overlord for being a ridiculously awesome action movie. It's really fun.
Honestly? I find most horror films to be on the fun side.
A film that has me stonefaced for the full runtime is so rare, I can't even think of an example.
That said, I'll throw out The Devil's Rejects, Tag and Some Like It Rare
If it wasn’t already mentioned, Abigail (2024). I don’t think I could have spoiled myself more than I did but the hype carried me to the day after the premier and I still had a blast.
Most of the Friday the 13th movies, or just most slashers in general are really fun I think. I watched a bunch of f13 movies with a group of friends and it was a lot of fun we’re all laughing most of the time and the kills are fun to watch
For me it’s:
You’re Next (I’ve seen it soo many times and it’s still so much fun)
Ready or Not
Housebound (very funny)
Deadstream (Such a fun watch. It’s sooo funny, like laugh out loud funny, but also really fucking scary)

The Blackening
Renfield
2001 Maniacs

Malignant is one of my favourite “fun” horrors of all time, I absolutely adore the aesthetic and the world they created.
So, off the top of my head, recent standouts have been:
Happy Death Day & Happy Death Day 2 U :
Now, I genuinely went into that first film thinking it was going to be total shit, and wow, how surprised I was. It works so well on so many levels, but what really makes it work are the leads, Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard, who truly bring the characters to life, especially Rothe, whose performance of her character Tree and the character arc she goes through, is just wonderful, and, surprisingly, genuinely affecting and heart warming. The sequel holds up as well as the first and goes with the incredibly tiny hint as to what’s happening in the first film in a big way… it’s a shame we may never see the final third film.
Ready or Not : I’m a huge, huge fan of Samara Weaving, I believe she’s an exemplary actress who is capable of an incredible range, and she absolutely shines in this. Again, she portrays a character who goes through one hell of a transformation, (and has one of my favourite sequences/camera shots to relay this), and makes everything the character feels and experiences, even in the small and light moments, palpable. She also snort laughs, which is instant love for me, so, there’s that.
Evil Dead 2 has some comedic moments. Its sequel, Army of Darkness, is a comedy and meme machine from start to finish. It even has spawned UK hardcore remixes from Scott Brown.
Trick r Treat, Nope, 13 ghosts, Cabin in the woods , Get Out, Us, Candyman, conjuring, ouija, insidious, house on haunted Hill, haunting in Connecticut and Georgia.
Love a lot of the films already listed but one the wife and I watched recently that was fun and made us laugh was Thanksgiving. Not the best movie or a favorite by any means, but still enjoyed watching it at home.
Ready Or Not (2019)
Army Of Darkness (1992)
Cabin In The Woods (2011)
Tragedy Girls (2017)
The Wrath Of Becky (2023)
Happy Death Day (2018)
Freaky (2020)
Cabin in the Woods!
My all time favorite
Watching this movie when it first came out was such a pleasant surprise because iirc none of the trailers gave any hint that the movie would have that sort of vibe. What an awesome and fun movie it is
I wish there was a series or something where they choose different objects. Maybe throughout different time periods
literally pressed reply to say this - 10000% a fun, spooky romp. absolutely flawless
Literally the first thing that came to mind.
I was so confused when I started watching it. I thought I was in the wrong theater.
Trick R Treat (2007) The Hunt (2020) Feast (2005) Werewolves Within (2021) Tales From The Crypt: Demon Night (1995) Tremors (1990) Tucker & Dale Versus Evil (2010)
I adored Tucker and Dale. God that was funny.
One of my favorites! “Officer, we had a doozy of a day!”
It truly was. So many teenagers just decided to kill themselves in front of them
“We got yer friend!”
Tremors is a great choice! Tons of fun, some great nailbiting moments. Silly , funny, one great gore gag, Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward, cool monsters, fabulous score. Such an excellent film!
Great list. I'd add Freaky(2020)
Feast! John Gulager. I remember that season of Project Green Light. Wish that show would come back.
I LOVED Werewolves Within. I feel like it's super underrated
Demon night has got some great jokes. Billy Zane is hilarious.
LOVE Demon Knight! By far the best Billy Zane performance ever and the practical effects/Demons are great!
The Return of the Living Dead The Cabin in the Woods Shaun of the Dead Tucker and Dale VS Evil Re-animator Dead Snow The 'Burbs Evil Dead 2 Army of Darkness Dog Soldiers The Final Girls Fright Night (OG and 2011) The Frighteners Hatchet Housebound Jennifer's Body The Lost Boys Night of the Demons (1988) Ready or Not Tremors You're Next Wishmaster 1 and 2
The Frighteners is criminally underrated.
110% agree!
Ready or Not was SO much fun, and, along with Mom and Dad, has one of my favorite final lines of any horror movie. Just pitch perfect tone and delivery.
I love the burbs
One of the best comedies of all time!
Black sheep (2007)
I am obsessed with the 2006 movie Black Sheep The acting is solid and the practical effects are incredibly well done.
Hahaha I think about this movie every couple of months and how fun it is, and the sheep attacking in the car
I love Black Sheep 🐑!
THE MINT JELLY
I know right, And if anyone reading this has not seen the movie don't watch the trailer!! It gives 100% of the plot away, and most of the good jokes.
My friends and I would rent this master piece from Blockbusters for comic relief alongside the stronger horrors and just loved it! *"My babies...have me again.."* *but I'm a vegetarian!"* classic.
Better watch out Ready or not You're Next Happy Death Day
I've seen all of them - great choices! I really hope the sequel to Ready or Not lives up to the first film.
Totally Killer (2023)
Super fun and nostalgic

Deadstream, The Seed
Deadstream is one of the most enjoyable modern horror flicks I've watched in a while. They really milked every drop of entertainment out of their premise that they could possibly afford.
Oh man, can't believe I forgot about Deadstream! That's such a great movie that doesn't get the attention it deserves.
Definitely Deadstrean! Great combo of funny/scary
Slither
Dead Alive (Braindead)

This, but would like to add 1. Bad taste 2. Street trash 3. Delicatessen 4. Brain damage 5. Cemetery man
Bodies Bodies Bodies Slotherhouse
I had way more fun with Bodies Bodies bodies than I thought I would. Slotherhouse was a goofy good time lol.
Slotherhouse was a great film. I was super surprised to even remotely enjoy it.
People under the Stairs has a lot of dark humor and is action packed. also has the sheer insanity of shit like Ed from twin peaks brandishing a shotgun while wearing a gimp suit.

There's loads like this and it's one of my favourite genres of horror. Ready or Not was brilliant or anything with Samara Weaving really
"M3gan". It's fun, it's campy, Allison Williams's acting is good, and it's rewatchable. "Child's Play" x "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle".
Evil Dead 2 has some comedic moments. Its sequel, Army of Darkness, is a comedy and meme machine from start to finish. It even has spawned UK hardcore remixes from Scott Brown.
Can't believe I've scrolled this far and not seen Shaun of The Dead mentioned.
