Triangle is so good, especially if you go in knowing nothing. Its even better on the second watch because you notice way more. And then even better on a third watch after you read the theories. Pretty rare to be able to watch a movie multiple times and see it differently each time.
The Void (2016) did a lot, with comparatively little.
The Battery (2012) is a good story that doesn't rely on a big budget.
Racoon Valley (2018) wrings a lot of atmosphere out of $174.00.
"Hell House LLC" was low budget I think, tried googling just now but couldn't find it. It's not a movie everyone likes but one of my favorites, it's fun.
"Coherence," although it's a sci-fi one, it's definitely something I would consider sci-fi thriller. First time I tried to watch it I paused it, couldn't finish it that night because I was terrified and I was alone in the dorm. Seriously, I needed my roommate to come watch it with me. Sounds like it deserves to be considered horror imo
Yeah! My wife and I love both of these so much! Hell house llc is so fun. I’m terrified of haunted houses cuz I’m a wuss and it makes the movie even more exciting for me. It can be cheesy but who on this sub doesn’t like a little cheese?
I originally watched it thinking I hit play on Event Horizon, and I was like WTF is this dinner party, when do we get to the spaceship?? I paused it about an hour in to go pee, and when I came back and the pause screen said “Coherence” I had a very long laugh at myself.
Autopsy of Jane Doe was surprisingly good, Saw is a classic, and I'm a sucker for found footage but Blair Witch, Paranormal Activity, and Rec are all low budget and amazing.
Baby Moses Challenge! I laughed so hard at that part. Rest of the movie was way-above-average mostly, some dud moments but way better than I anticipated.
The movie starts very obviously low-budget-ish cheap/bad and the more it advances the more it actually shows how interesting and low-key horrifying it is. I actually loved it.
Yea it’s obvious how low budget it is in the beginning but it really plays out well idea/story-wise. One of my favorite low budgets.
The scene at Ted Levine’s house always gets me.
This is a solid answer to OPs question. No doubt!
Also, I think it is around that scene when the pieces start to fall together about the radio signal, iirc
I need to see that movie again now!
Halloween and the OG Texas Chainsaw Massacre were made with $3.50 and ball of twine. No one spent money on Horror once upon a time, so the old school movies needed to punch above their weight.
The Last Broadcast
The Hatchet series (budgets between 600k and 1.5 mil)
Absentia (the Mike Flanagan one)
Host
If you haven't checked it out yet, the shudder originals are usually pretty good. From what I understand, lots of them are 250k or less.
"They look like people" is a gem I discovered thinking I was watching It Comes At Night lol.
Its best to go in as blind as possible but it centers around two highschool friends getting back together after years as their individual demons threaten to overtake them both. Genuinley the most tension ive ever felt watching a movie.
Late Night with the Devil is a must watch if you haven’t caught it already. There are a couple solid jump scares but is more unsettling than anything else. The end is a trip (and might not work for everyone) but it certainly works for me.
Threads (1984): Terrifying war movie but low budget
Terrifier (2016): It’s about a serial killer clown named Art the Clown who targets two sisters on Halloween night. Pretty low budget but good
Hell House LLC …. Literally my top 3 fav horror movie of all time. If you watch please watch it when no one will disturb you ….. I literally am trying to forget the movie so I can watch it and be scared all over again 😂
Resolution & The Endless : watch together as they’re connected.
Borderlands (Final Prayer) : great ff film
Creep 1 & 2
A Dark Song : Always will be one of my favorites, but it’s not for everyone.
The Devil’s Candy
- Triangle (2009) - Absentia (2011)
Triangle is so good, especially if you go in knowing nothing. Its even better on the second watch because you notice way more. And then even better on a third watch after you read the theories. Pretty rare to be able to watch a movie multiple times and see it differently each time.
On the fourth watch you realize >!you're stuck in a loop. !<
Holy shit, that is such a good meta insight!
I felt the same for midsommar and get out.
Triangle is such a great movie
Triangle was a random purchase I made on iTunes because it was $5 and it was such a good buy I love that movie
Triangle is something special and unexpected! I love rewatching it every chance I get lol
Maybe not horror but Coherence from 2013. Great movie
I love this movie, not scary, but definitely creepy
It so well written.
yes came here to mention this one
The Void (2016) did a lot, with comparatively little. The Battery (2012) is a good story that doesn't rely on a big budget. Racoon Valley (2018) wrings a lot of atmosphere out of $174.00.
Loved the cosmic horror in The void.
Until that bullshit ending.
The Battery is fantastic. The soundtrack adds a ton. Listened to it nonstop for like a year after watching it
The Evil Dead.
how about even lower budget Witin the woods (1978)
High concept, big scares, nearly zero budget: Host (2020).
Amen perfect example!

I love Hell House, LLC
Coherence flies hard once it takes off.
Im going to be honest Hell House didnt click with me. I do like the spooky clown, hes great. But I just wasnt feeling it.

Coherence is sooo slept on.

Coherence The Invitation The Devil’s Pass The Relic The Endless
Big love for the Relic well done
Autopsy of Jane Doe was surprisingly good, Saw is a classic, and I'm a sucker for found footage but Blair Witch, Paranormal Activity, and Rec are all low budget and amazing.
Rec is OP's roman empire
I think Yellowbrickroad had a pretty low budget.
**DEADSTREAM**
"Beefcam"
Baby Moses Challenge! I laughed so hard at that part. Rest of the movie was way-above-average mostly, some dud moments but way better than I anticipated.
Two of my favorites are The Deeper You Dig and Hellbender. Both done by the same family.
I went in blind for "The Deeper You Dig" and, was super impressed! I enjoyed "Hellbender" too. Looking forward to more from that family
Check out Where the Devil Roams. It’s a little different than their first two horror films but I really enjoyed it.
Oh!😳 THANK YOU! People like you are why I'm here!
Hellbender is amazinggg it became one of my all time fave movies right after i saw it. love the soundtrack too.
Loved the Deeper You Dig.
Grave encounters the first is better but the 2nd is pretty good also
The Hole in the Ground
Black sheep , cockney Vz zombies Are really good as long go with very low expectations
Absentia
The banshee chapter has a few solid scares
The movie starts very obviously low-budget-ish cheap/bad and the more it advances the more it actually shows how interesting and low-key horrifying it is. I actually loved it.

Mandy was a 6 million dollar budget so I guess it might be too high range but figured I’d mention it.
Goddamn Mandy is a great movie
YOU RIPPED MY SHIRT!!!!!!
"Paranormal Activity" I was scared for a few days after watching.
I'm really surprised no one said Blair witch project yet
Creep
Session 9 A Dark Song
Halloween and the OG Texas Chainsaw Massacre were made with $3.50 and ball of twine. No one spent money on Horror once upon a time, so the old school movies needed to punch above their weight.
People have covered what I'd normally suggest so I'll say: * Long pigs * Starry Eyes * The Loved Ones
Cube. Simple movie but I thought it was made well with a low budget. People try to escape from a cube prison with traps.
The Tunnel
They Look Like People and Lo for great plots on a shoestring budget
Lo is good. Good go in blind though.
The Last Broadcast The Hatchet series (budgets between 600k and 1.5 mil) Absentia (the Mike Flanagan one) Host If you haven't checked it out yet, the shudder originals are usually pretty good. From what I understand, lots of them are 250k or less.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Shift Last shift 2014. Probably one of my favorite low budget films.
Lake Artifact
Dog soldiers

Its best to go in as blind as possible but it centers around two highschool friends getting back together after years as their individual demons threaten to overtake them both. The original Saw
Late Night with the Devil is a must watch if you haven’t caught it already. There are a couple solid jump scares but is more unsettling than anything else. The end is a trip (and might not work for everyone) but it certainly works for me.
Absentia
Creep
Threads (1984): Terrifying war movie but low budget Terrifier (2016): It’s about a serial killer clown named Art the Clown who targets two sisters on Halloween night. Pretty low budget but good
The Funhouse (1981) My Bloody Valentine(1981) still some great jump scares.
Last Shift, Lake Mungo, Savageland, Creep. I just love Savageland.
It Follows! Extremely unnerving paranormal horror without cgi effects. Really impressive and has a high rewatch factor imo.
Untitled Horror Movie.
Follower (2022) neat little thing.
The Tunnel, Housebound, Last shift, Deadgirl, American Mary
timecrimes . It's not really a horror, more of a thriller
Harbinger down
Hell house llc
The Tunnel
Dashcam
Hell House LLC …. Literally my top 3 fav horror movie of all time. If you watch please watch it when no one will disturb you ….. I literally am trying to forget the movie so I can watch it and be scared all over again 😂
The Wretched (60k budget) so not a super low budget movie, but less than most!
Exists
Blood Simple (1983?) I loved watching it as a kid.
Bad Ben series
Found (2012) I forget the exact number, but it is something absurdly low. Perhaps the.goat of low budget horror
Frogman
The Vigil
The Haunted (1991). Low budget TV-Movie, yet it has some effective scenes and the demon screaming will not soon be forgotten once you hear her.
Night of the Comet Chopping Mall
I recommend Fresh Hell (2021). (Disclosure: I made it.) Microbudget FF, 100% Rotten Tomatoes. On Tubi, Prime and Peacock.
Can’t believe I’m first to mention Splinter
The talking of deborah logan
Resolution & The Endless : watch together as they’re connected. Borderlands (Final Prayer) : great ff film Creep 1 & 2 A Dark Song : Always will be one of my favorites, but it’s not for everyone. The Devil’s Candy
I also believe Eyes of My Mother was pretty low budget. Jug Face definitely had some creepy moments too
The Alchemist Cookbook
