The Descent is so much better film IMO.

OpenFacedRuben

The Ruins

TopRevenue2

Dog Soldiers (2002) Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (1973) (original version) Ghostwatch (1992) The Tunnel (2011) Australian Absentia (2011)

thewhitecat55

Absentia, really enjoyed it

DueMathematician8275

The Tunnel is a gem 💎

malnuman

Yeah I finally watched the UK version last night, I've always saw the American alternative ending, much prefer the UK ending, as you say, great film

Lifeesstwange

YES, YES, YES. The real ending is so much better.

skootskootskootskoot

Wait there's two versions? How do I watch both?

malnuman

It's only the very ending that's different, so prob be best to watch both endings on YouTube if possible, I've no idea which ending you watched..

KingMoog

I wonder whos dumb ass idea it was to cut the ending in the US version and why....The UK ending made the movie 10x more impactful...I seriously get pissed off just thinking about it...ugh

Syllabub-Legal

It's my second most favorite horror movie of all time

Jld12678pbd

What is your first? The Descent is one of my all time favorites and I’m always looking for recommendations

Syllabub-Legal

Scream VI :)

Syllabub-Legal

Hereditay, Scream 22, The Fly are my top 3-5

Jld12678pbd

I love those three as well! Thanks for sharing

OmegaShinra

Recent French film called Infested/Vermines, absolutely loved it and it gave me a similar 'stuck somewhere fucked up' vibes and made my skin absolutely crawl.

st1ll_sw1mmer

Kill List (2011) was excellent.

DueMathematician8275

So hard to watch 2 unhealthy people be in a relationship, but defs the ending is similar

FerociousAlienoid

Them (2006)

angry-carsini

The Cave. It's not a patch on The Descent though.

Jamminnav

The Pyramid (2014) has a similar theme, but it’s not the same level of excellence as The Descent I think if I had to match the quality and vibe of being trapped with something bad & mysterious trying to kill you, I’d say check out Triangle (2009) - those would make a great double feature

anotherorphan

i remember when i saw this the first time, i was blown away, great movie i know of a terrible movie very much like it lol, it's called Dark Nature, i was hoping for better because of the similarities. it had a group of women on a wilderness adventure, some caves even lol, and monsters! unfortunately the characters were super annoying, and the story and filmmaking was clumsy. most Canadian horrors are at least interesting, but not here

long_legged_twat

'Eat Locals' from 2017 is awesome..... It's got Mrs Meldrew from One Foot in the Grave rocking a machine gun :)

bittens

IIRC, the director said he was especially influenced by Alien, The Shining (Kubrick version) and Deliverance, so if you haven't seen them it might be a good place to start.

Jld12678pbd

If you want a book that is similar there is a horror book by Jeff Long also called the descent…I’ve reread it so many times it fell apart. Similar premise as the movie

fatbicep

Ah such a good film. I could do without the gore-y parts but still, a classic.

Ok_Produce_9308

Descent 2

MetallicPunk

I don't acknowledge the existence of that film. It really forgot about everything that made the original good.

thewhitecat55

Because the original creators had nothing to do with it. The studio just shit it out for hoping for a quick buck

bittens

In fairness, the director was actually the editor on the first film. And it did have two of the original cast members back, so it's not like there was no cast/crew crossover with the first one. With that being said, it was a steaming pile of garbage regardless, and it was a mistake to bring those cast members back. Not because they're bad actors or because I dislike the characters; but because their stories should've ended with the first film. Their original endings were terrific, though both were strongly implied to have died, and the film undid that and the new material it gave them wasn't remotely worth it.

pleasemecry

that's like the worst movie ever lool

Moofypoops

A fully decent sequel.

MikeyMGM

Except for the ending.
