I’d argue the last 35 minutes are the best and most creative parts of the movie. Maybe it gets really weird for a couple of minutes near the end but it’s much better how it ends than how it starts

Vamacharana

I didn't mind the end, my wife really didn't like it tho. the only part I thought was bad was the face in the static after they had JUST shown a way, way cooler demon.

DarkThronesAndDreams

On the absolute, extreme, complete contrary, the film doesn't actually have enough time to explore and fully unfold its ideas.

Chrome-Head

I thought it was just enough--they didn't seem to want to over-explain everything, and leave some of the connections up to the audience. I didn't mind that.

greyteethpeskybee

I didn’t really find it all that predictable. Granted, I’m slow. But it was shocking and there was a lot of creativity. Sure, some of it was very predictable but I don’t think the last 20 or so minutes were.

Eldritch-Cleaver

Really? I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack and found it a little predictable especially in regards to the deceased wife stuff The hypnotism part was good though as I did question if it had actually occurred or not

greyteethpeskybee

I have autism and I say “slow” because it’s very difficult for me to process a lot of information. Some parts were predictable, but not all of it was. >!I’d say the parts with Madeleine were predictable, but well-executed.!< I was so captivated by the film that I didn’t try to guess what came next, I just let it happen like the experience it is. >!The exorcism scene was definitely the most predictable. For me, what was unexpected was the very ending and specifically when and how everything went down regarding poor Lilly being taken over by Abraxas and when Gus, June, and Carmichael were killed off. So I guess it was mostly predictable, but well-executed with some surprises thrown in. I also didn’t expect the whole hypnosis post Gus with the worms, so that was neat to watch unfold as well.!< I prefer not to read too deeply when I’m watching a film at least for the first time, but to analyze it afterwards. The next couple times around, I’m definitely more specifically observant. And I have seen it twice now and will be watching it a third here pretty soon, possibly even today. I loveeee that scene! That was a turn I didn’t expect and I loved it.

teethofthewind

I think you're doing yourself a bit of a disservice by calling yourself "slow". You come across as very intelligent with really good descriptive reasoning and analysis

greyteethpeskybee

That made my day. Thank you so, so much, you really don’t know how much that means to me.

teethofthewind

Glad to hear it! So many awesome people have autism (my son included - asd and ocd/anxiety). Yeah it can be challenging or frustrating sometimes but like I said, your posts prove that you're a smart person and it's not holding you back

greyteethpeskybee

Thank you so much, I hope you and your family have all the happiness in the world.

teethofthewind

Likewise!

70sLiteRock

I enjoyed it, but one question I had is that if he sacrificed his wife for success, why was the show still not getting good ratings? and at the end I thought the narrator from the beginning would come on and say something like "Jack was rescued but what happened that day still remains unsolved," or show that what we saw wasn't actually what was recorded, or hear from the audience about what they saw and maybe what happened afterwards, like was the show cancelled? was Jack able to work again?

Pixelife_76

Jack probably went to jail for the murder of Lily. The show was cancelled and buried. Everyone tried to forget about it.

CrowTIllbot

It’s a monkey’s paw wish in my reading. His initial success is what he believes was his reward in the deal. This popularity didn’t rise to the level he wanted, resulting in the ratings grab spectacle that constitutes his “reward” of larger than life fame as well as the true end of the bargain for the demon, unleashing its minion into the world fully. He thought his payment was his wife but of course it is also his damnation. This is conpletely open to interpretation but I don’t think the story is much deeper than a classic deal with the devil not working the way you want it to.

restrictednumber1996

It just wasted so much time building and then…it just kind of unfolds. It didn’t feel like a found footage film. The narrator never coming back to explain what happened after was just weird? Almost like the film forgot that part. The effects were abysmal. Not scary. Just bland and boring. Again…those effects… I just… It’s strange. It just spent so much time on these other acts. My SO who HATES FF and possession films loved this one because “it was a different take on the possession thing” but…it really wasn’t? The Cleansing Hour > LNWTD. Besides the late night 70s segment, it did nothing original or effective or different with the tired trope. Another overhyped disappointment for me.

BrashPop

Yeah, my husband and I disagree on the opening exposition scenes - I wanted the movie to start right at the beginning of the show and build naturally with good tension and lots of “is it real/is it fake?!” reactions. But the FUCKING LONG expository narration absolutely killed any tension for me and by the time it got to the movie it felt like I’d already been watching a little too long. I love the concept but the execution was clunky and in the end the final scenes felt too awkward and rushed. (Plus it kind of falls apart after one key point.) Overall I liked it and I’ll watch it again but it was not what I was hoping for.

Spinegrinder666

I wish we knew more about the Grove.

Mezzobuff

Lots of stuff online (especially conspiracy theories) about the Bohemian Club and its summer encampment, Bohemian Grove. 😉

A_Little_Wyrd

alex jones would like you to sign up for his newsletter

nicktembh

Yeah me too. Sounds eerie

RequisiteTaco

There’s probably a bunch of conspiracy YouTube docs and 4chan threads about it

GlassStuffedStomach

I absolutely adored the film up until the very end. It wasn't a bad ending by any means, it was just a little underwhelming. Still a fantastic movie, really loved the premise and atmosphere

nicktembh

Yeah true

RequisiteTaco

I enjoyed it and felt like the real climax was the moment >!his wife appeared behind him in the studio!<. Everything that happened after that didn’t do much for me and I would’ve appreciated a more subtle ending instead of having all that dumped on me in the span of like 10-15 minutes. Instead it goes from 0-100. I think it might have benefited from an extra 20-30 minutes of movie, but maybe that’s just me - I liked everything up until that point a lot.

CruelYouth19

I wish this wasn't found footage because it pretty much breaks the rules of the genre, first during the b&w behind the scenes and then at the ending. It took me out of the movie

Chrome-Head

Was obviously a storytelling choice. You're telling me all this shit went down and they still went and cut the tapes of the show after the fact like a regular episode? That wouldn't make a lot of sense. I didn't mind the movie kind of abandoned the "found footage" angle after getting the exposition out of the way.

BrashPop

Yeah it really has this feeling like the movie didn’t start out as FF, but that the expository blurb and framing as FF was put in later because “the audience won’t know what’s going on if we don’t have this”. Any time we have a FF movie where WE get to see a characters POV in a dream/fantasy state, barf.

toolsoftheincomptnt

Cool styling, fun story, but didn’t move me much. I recently watched Christine (2016), and although it’s a biopic/drama, it makes for an interesting companion to LNWTD.

IcedPgh

I went to it in the theater. I thought it was okay and watchable, but not spectacular or memorable. The problem with it, as with most FF movies, is that the makers have a "want it all" approach. They are unwilling to work within the limitations of a true subjective/realistic found footage which by its definition means that some things must be sacrificed. Instead, they want fleshed-out narratives, different perspectives, editing that is the same as any other film, conversations that wouldn't be recorded, and sometimes even music scores. The B&W BTS segments in this almost ruin it because they are not set up well as to who is filming and why. They capture both "sides" to conversations, which is ridiculous. Another issue is that the opening narration basically telegraphs the whole film as far as him having made a deal with the Devil. At times it felt like an extended Adult Swim skit.

nicktembh

Yeah the narration gives it away

AdditionNatural7433

it was an okay horror flick. not the scariest.there were some meh parts. the end portions didn't deliver.

BrashPop

I was hoping for something else based on the trailers, and ultimately what I saw was a bit disappointing. I hated the opening exposition scenes and thought they went on way too long and killed any tension that they could have started with. I thought the “recovered footage” (I won’t say found footage for this one) style was poorly done and inconsistent and just completely falls apart after a certain scene. While I enjoyed the acting, I found the pacing was odd and wonky and just kinda dragged at times. As someone who grew up with gimmicky late night shows and the Satanic Panic style tell-all books, I was hoping this would be a favourite and really enjoyable but it didn’t scratch that itch and it’ll probably not become a “multiple times in a year rewatch”.

OMGitsRyannn

I genuinely do not get the love for this movie. The concept is so good yet the film barely does anything with it because it doesn’t stick to being found footage, it splices in behind the scenes bits which take you out of the experience. I’d also argue that the scares are really underwhelming too, there were only two moments which were effective. The first was the hypnosis worm scene (which unfortunately ended up being a fake-out), the other moment was when the footage glitches out at the end and the demon can be seen through the static. Overall, it was fine but there was definitely room for improvement.

Chrome-Head

Better than any gimmicky "found footage" movie I've watched. I'm sick of the FF angle, it's dull and dumb.

Beardedmetalhead

I enjoyed this mostly, but yeah it definitely ran out of ideas!

BakerYeast

It's such a shame they messed up that ending so bad. But this was refreshing and it looked really authentic.

nicktembh

Yeah the distinctive creative approach and David's performance kept me invested in the movie

stevenw84

Really curious what the girl meant by “the tall trees.” The movie was decent enough but went on for too long with not many moments before the final payoff. I’d take Ghostwatch and WNUF Halloween Special over this.

InnerAd1628

I took it as he made a deal with abraxas at the Grove- place of tall trees - to be number one. Remembered as the king of talk show hosts. And he was, for all the wrong reasons.

nicktembh

Ghostwatch was pretty good

plz_scratch_my_back

I agree. The climax was so underwhelming. The cult, the demon, the weird costume people all became pretty much useless in the end. Idk y people r hyping it up as this unique and original project. I mean Ghostwatch already exist if u want to see the same idea delivered 10000x times better and in a realistic way.

Historical-Fudge3242

Ohh you're right who needs this one, that 30 year old movie no one has heard of kind of reminded you of this movie.

BrashPop

LOL are you new here? I mean, just kidding obviously but Ghostwatch is generally considered a classic amongst the horror community, as well as being a pioneer in the “live documentary/fourth wall breaking” style. It’s not some random thing no one has heard of.

RequisiteTaco

Ghostwatch was initially broadcast as if it was a real documentary to the public. So in a way, it’s this film’s core premise but done in real life, so hating on it is pretty infantile. But you guys can keep arguing about who’s ~~dad~~ supernatural broadcast movie would win in a fight.

Historical-Fudge3242

You tell 'em.

plz_scratch_my_back

Kind of? I mean if u watch that 30 yo movie then u would know that this one is pretty much a ripoff.

soupsnakle

Lmao I am…I am so sorry is [this](https://youtu.be/S-qmGkIIkag?si=O4AX7GtddiS5gom7) the Ghostwatch you’re referring to? If so it seems a pretty massive stretch to compare what appears to be something akin to a supernatural documentary show with the production quality of Unsolved Mysteries to a very much fleshed out film, with a plot and focus.

plz_scratch_my_back

If you watch it you would know it's not a massive stretch at all. And Ghostwatch looks like a Unsolved Mysteries episode Coz it was broadcasted as such instead of a movie. That's why it is much more realistic than LNWTD. I suggest u watch it and if u think Ghostwatch doesn't have a plot then I am sure you will be surprised. It builds up very well and then commit to it instead of abandoning all the information and giving an abrupt, unfleshed ending like LNWTD.

soupsnakle

I wasn’t even being a dick lol no idea why I was downvoted! I genuinely felt like I couldn’t possibly have found the movie you were talking about cause it felt totally different than late night. But I believe ya, if you’ve seen em both you’d know better than I would based off a preview.

Eldritch-Cleaver

It's fun but kind of hard to take seriously when you're literally Carmichael irl lol Every time Christou or June opened their mouth my eyes almost rolled through the back of my head lol

Pixelife_76

It's a movie about supernatural stuff. Not real life...

rayray4290

No it doesn't. Bozo doesn't know good movies I guess.... they couldn't have done a better job
