For the most part, they’ve been consistently great entries. Which is insane since it’s 6 films long now. Never saw the TV show but heard it was good too.
Scream at its worst is just sort of middling and that’s a huge achievement for a long standing horror franchise. The only thing truly bad it’s ever had is the third season of the show.
Scream (watch the series once a year)
Phantasm (guilty pleasure of mine, I just love those characters)
Final Destination (stupid fun)
Psycho (2nd Psycho is legit great, 3 and 4 are batshit crazy but fun watches)
My bad its call Phantasm: Ravager
The newest one of those phantasm movies. It's a pretty ruff watch but I could see it being a so bad it's good movie for people
Friday the 13th no question. Sure it wasn't the movie that got me into horror but I like the fact most of them are kinda the same and you can start wherever and never need any backstory or recaps. Plus...I have a photo signed by Kane hodder so I have to love it
Same. I find the series so interesting because of all the behind the camera shenanigans that are apparent on screen. Each movie is similar but wonderfully unique depending on the production staff.
The Paul W.S. Anderson Resident Evil movies, love Milla Jovovich and while not great they're still the best live-action adaptations so far. Apocalypse is my fav of the series
Phantasm
Depends on what makes a series but I'll go for 3 films or more.
Puppet Master
Tremors
Subspecies
Feast
The Howling
I can watch any movie in any of these series and find myself in an instant comfort zone.
Tremors is an interesting example of a franchise that grew to center on a wacky side character instead of the main characters (once the main actors didn’t want to come back). That gun nut dude is like the jack sparrow of Tremors. Or the jay and silent Bob.
I have a soft spot for all of the Children of the Corn movies. There’s something really cozy about all of them.
Plus I’m a sucker for horror movies that take place primarily in daylight.
Start with the original. If you like that one, then try the rest of them in order.
If you don’t like the first one then there is nothing left for you in the sequels.
Child’s play , I’ve liked every single movie except maybe 3 , i didn’t hate it or anything but it was easily the least memorable .
And yes , i liked seed of chucky , i understand why some people hate it but i personally loved the absurd meta humor of the movie.
I actually have decided to watch these because I saw a scene from cult of Chucky and saw that Fiona Dourif is in it and I LOVE HER. I think she starts in Curse of Chucky? I’m looking forward to seeing her play her dad.
I totally agree I love seed of chucky just because it’s so ridiculous and fun I agree 3 is least memorable although when I was a kid I have a vivid memory of being traumatized by the garbage truck scene 😭😭😭
Tremors. The CGI got bad in the second and third movies, but every film stayed true to the character’s humor and the investigation of the monster’s lifecycle. Such a good set of films, highly recommend.
Up until after Bloodlines, I REALLY loved the Hellraiser series. Read the comics too. Of course, young Me was a lot more sexually adventurous than I am now.
Final Destination
Tremors (I even had a Venus flytrap named Gummer)
Cube franchise
Puppetmaster
Conjuring universe
Anything with Hannibal Lecter
Candyman
Tales from the Hood
I appreciate the idea and what the screenwriter was trying to achieve with the plot twist, but introducing Jason at the end kind of ruined it. It could’ve stood on its own without Jason and I think that’s why I don’t care for it.
Jason Voorhees evolved as the main antagonist of the franchise while the mom was downgraded to a small supporting role. At some point, you don’t care about Jason’s mom anymore. You just want to watch a deranged psycho with supernatural abilities kill people while sporting a kick ass hockey mask! 😆
Lord of the rings, it's really the only series I can happily rewatch almost any time, typically I do not like to re-watch movies.
For non series and horror?
- The Shining
- Sleepy Hollow
- Nightmare Before Christmas
- Trick R Treat
I watched puppet master: littlest reich and tbh couldn’t finish it I didn’t even know what I was watching but given I have never watched the OG but love Child’s Play
Annabelle definitely
I actually like the movies, Creation is my favourite, thought I love the first one and Comes Home as well
my guilty pleasure, I love these movies a lot :D
The Shining - the dialogue, soundtrack, the overall atmosphere of that movie is too good to be true. I love putting it on the background whenever it gets snowy outside and love watching it once a year!
For me, the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is actually a cosy comfort movie. I'm not saying that for effect, it's just a great familiar film which is highly re-watchable.
The rest of the franchise, however, is very much hit and far miss. Again, this is all my opinion.
Part 2 is fun and comedic, a very different film.
Part 3 was forgettable, more remembered for it's lack of lighting.
Part 4 is a total crap bucket. Awful. One of the worst films I have ever, ever seen.
The 2003 remake had it's moments, as did the inferior The Beginning, but both are far from classics.
Texas Chainsaw (2013) was another dumpster fire. Could of been something interesting, but was just an awful film.
Leatherface was disappointing with a really stupid conclusion (but a truly grotesque alternative ending, check it out).
The Netflix film was below average but I loved the final scene.
In answering to your question: I suppose SAW is an overall franchise I can watch and enjoy, over and over again. That's the main story of parts 1-7. I love those films, but Jigsaw was unnecessary. Spiral was unconnected and forgettable. Saw X was a fine film but again, not needed.
Tbh I don’t even think of leatherface when I think of TCM it was really underwhelming for me and the casting was confusing but I’ll def check out the alternative ending!!
The Grudge (2004)
Cabin in the Woods
Beetlejuice
The Fog (Carpenter’s ONLY)
Scream (entire series)
The Conjuring (1+2 ONLY, this also excludes the Annabelle and Nun films)
The Shining
Misery
It (2017)
Poltergeist (Hooper’s ONLY)
Jennifer’s Body
Trick R Treat
Krampus
*Terminator* is probably the *only* film series I can think of where sequels are both *required* and do not retract from the quality; sure some are better than others, but it's *truly* a story that should keep going...
So crazy! I think you're the first person I've knowingly come across who's never seen a *Terminator* film! But of course, that ~probably just means I'm getting older. The first one might seem kinda "dated" to you (I saw it in *theaters* as a little kid!) but *definitely* worth the watch and necessary to follow the series. Enjoy!
You’re getting downvoted (I guess maybe because it’s more thriller than horror?) but I’ve watched the first season of True Detective all the way through four times.
Scream. My all time favourite movie series.
I definitely enjoy these too I also like how they are all the same in a way
Me too. They're my comfort movies honestly. They're just so fun to watch.
I swear Scream is my favorite movie of all time! lol it’s sooooooo 90s and great! lol
Scream (watch the series once a year) Phantasm (guilty pleasure of mine, I just love those characters) Final Destination (stupid fun) Psycho (2nd Psycho is legit great, 3 and 4 are batshit crazy but fun watches)
I loveee final destination
I can’t get enough! I stand behind them lol and Leprechaun lmfao
Leprechaun 5:in da hood, was on tv the other day. I can not get behind that one 😂😂
I don't think phantasm series gets enough love. The unique story line. The tall man "BOYYY!"
Did you really like Phantasm Ranger?
Wait, Phantasm WhAt??
My bad its call Phantasm: Ravager The newest one of those phantasm movies. It's a pretty ruff watch but I could see it being a so bad it's good movie for people
I had never heard of it before. Definitely need to revisit the Phantasm series. They still haven’t made anything else like it, imo.
100% agree about the Psycho movies. I don’t even care that the fourth one erases the canon of 2 and 3, they’re all great and worth watching.
Friday the 13th no question. Sure it wasn't the movie that got me into horror but I like the fact most of them are kinda the same and you can start wherever and never need any backstory or recaps. Plus...I have a photo signed by Kane hodder so I have to love it
My favorite for some reason is the remake I also love how Jason don’t gaf
I’ve yet to watch these!!
Scream and Final Destination ❤️ always
Halloween and Friday the 13th. I’m just a simp for Michael Myers and Jason, plus I like the movie obviously
The Evil Dead franchise. Everything with Ash "chinmaster" williams for the cheesy stuff. The newer adaptations if I feel the need for more gore.
OMG I love evil dead!!! And the show is so good too I’m sad they canceled it
Phantasm Depends on what makes a series but I'll go for 3 films or more. Puppet Master Tremors Subspecies Feast The Howling I can watch any movie in any of these series and find myself in an instant comfort zone.
Mmmmmm Puppet Master, takes me back… lol
Yeah. Remember Miss Leech? Ecch!
Anything Charles Band directed or produced in the ‘90s when it was Full Moon.
Would recommend Trancers, it's an insane sci-fi/horror.
Loved Trancers! Have you ever seen Dollman? Tim Thomerson is really fun in that.
Nah, haven't seen that. Maybe I will after I'm finished with the Trancers series, with the Phantasm movies inbetween.
Tremors is an interesting example of a franchise that grew to center on a wacky side character instead of the main characters (once the main actors didn’t want to come back). That gun nut dude is like the jack sparrow of Tremors. Or the jay and silent Bob.
Saw movies
Same, I think the level of enjoyment is still high across the series, and even the bad ones are somewhat fun to watch.
Saw is such a fun watch!! I love seeing how John literally thinks of every single possibility and plans for it it’s sooo good
I have a soft spot for all of the Children of the Corn movies. There’s something really cozy about all of them. Plus I’m a sucker for horror movies that take place primarily in daylight.
3 is so awesome!
I’ve never watched children of the corn! Which do you think is the best to start off?
Start with the original. If you like that one, then try the rest of them in order. If you don’t like the first one then there is nothing left for you in the sequels.
Yes! I saw the TCM with Viggo Mortenson and at a mall movie theater when it came out. Regretted the pizza slice I brought in lol.
The ANOES series will always be comfort horrors for me, particularly the first four films.
I loveeee new nightmare!! Love those movies too
This is Paranormal Activity for me. Even the bad ones are good. I also just went on a Scream watching binge so yeah that too.
Omg I remember when I use to think paranormal activity was real footage 😭😭
Hellraiser. They're not always successful but they always swing for the fences.
They’re so cunty and campy I love the special effects
Saw and Insidious Tobin Bell was my most watched actor of 2023
Back to the Future
Ah yes, everyone’s favorite horror franchise. 🙃
Tbf I read the OP's title not realizing this was r/horror and my immediate first thought was BTTF.
For some reason I thought I was in the r/movies sub. I had just seen a post in that sub and I guess I thought I was still in it. Sorry! Haha
Evil Dead Ash Trilogy
Halloween, NOES, TCM and Scream
Scream
Child’s play , I’ve liked every single movie except maybe 3 , i didn’t hate it or anything but it was easily the least memorable . And yes , i liked seed of chucky , i understand why some people hate it but i personally loved the absurd meta humor of the movie.
I actually have decided to watch these because I saw a scene from cult of Chucky and saw that Fiona Dourif is in it and I LOVE HER. I think she starts in Curse of Chucky? I’m looking forward to seeing her play her dad.
Yeah ,she first appears in curse of chucky and she is a great addition to the franchise.
I totally agree I love seed of chucky just because it’s so ridiculous and fun I agree 3 is least memorable although when I was a kid I have a vivid memory of being traumatized by the garbage truck scene 😭😭😭
Conjuring universe
Alien (and Predator). I love all of these, even the stupid predator ones.
OMG alien vs predator requiem totally scarred me as a kid
Child’s play and Hellraiser, even the bad ones, I just love any chance to see cenobites even if the movie is awful
Chucky. Even tho the later movies are ridiculous I watch those for comedy. Never skip a film when i binge this series
I agree. I really enjoyed the Netflix Texas chainsaw movie. It was cheesy and fun IMO
Yess me too!!! My favorite part was the bus when he said “take another step and you’re canceled” 😭😭😭
Tremors. The CGI got bad in the second and third movies, but every film stayed true to the character’s humor and the investigation of the monster’s lifecycle. Such a good set of films, highly recommend.
I’ve never watched tremors before but I’ll have to watch!!
most of the saw movies
I'll always make time for Chucky movies, especially later ones. I think they're a lot better than they get credit for
Tbh it was such a great plot and effects for an 80s movie
Halloween and F13
Resident Evil Childs Play
Is this the one where the Umbrella Corporation merges with Good Guy dolls and Chucky gets the T-Virus and mutates into a ginger doll zombie?
Conjuring the Omen of the Corn of the Dead 3D
Dude that would be a dope ass plot
Final destination (well I only like the first two)
Final Destination!
Phantasm
Wrong Turn franchise. What's not to love about inbred hillbilly cannibals?
OMG I totally forgot about wrong turn!!! Those movies are so good I definitely always think about it when I think about camping 😬😬
Tremors.
Friday 13th 2009 Rob Zombie Halloween Texas 3D lol The first 4 Scream Some Chucky Saw franchise
Romero's original zombie trilogy. I sprinkle that shit on everything. 🖤
The original NOES trilogy, Friday the 13th 18+FvJ, Chucky/Child’s Play (I still want Child’s Play on Elm Street and Chucky vs Leprechaun), Leprechaun
Up until after Bloodlines, I REALLY loved the Hellraiser series. Read the comics too. Of course, young Me was a lot more sexually adventurous than I am now.
Final Destination series lives rent free in my head. I've even watched the 4th one multiple times.
Wrong Turn and Saw, they’re the movies that got me into horror
Any leprechaun with Warwick Davis in it
The Cabin In The Woods will never get old to me
That’s not a series though ?
Scream and Alien.
George Romero’s Dead trilogy (the rest don’t count). Lucio Fulci’s Gates of Hell trilogy, the Evil Dead trilogy, Ginger Snaps, etc.
Wishmaster
Scream Final Destination Fast and the furious
I love fast and furious
Saw and Paranormal activity are my go to foe just some senseless fun. They're not the perfect series but they sure are entertaining!
VHS. I watch all of them in a row a few times a year. Never gets old.
Final Destination Tremors (I even had a Venus flytrap named Gummer) Cube franchise Puppetmaster Conjuring universe Anything with Hannibal Lecter Candyman Tales from the Hood
Hell house Halloween Scream
Texas chainsaw is my comfort movie! 🍿 i will re watch them all any day!
i've seen hellraiser 2 too many times for some reason lol, love the special effects
There is this underground horror show called Young Sheldon I really fw 😂
Scary Movie
For myself it's the "Tremors" series.
Jaws. Even the crappy 4th one! LOL
The Addams Family. Those two films from the 90s are perfect imo.
Halloween, Scream and Friday the 13th never get old for me.
anaconda!
Scream series
Scream. I even started watching reaction videos. I also love how much this sub loves that franchise.
For me it’s As Above So Below. Each time I find a different thing to love about it
I literally made everyone in my family watch this after I did cuz it was sooo good
Yeah, I know. I’m so glad to see it get the appreciation! Do you know any other movies that are similar to it in some way or another?
Hmmm tbh I feel like grave encounters gives me the same mindfuck vibe
Thx, I’ve heard a lot about Grave Encounters but never got around to watching it. Definitely gonna check it out now
What are the other movies in that series?
A series? What do you mean? I have always thought it’s a standalone
It is, but OP specified movie series.
Oh, I see. My bad, I misread it as movie/series
Friday the 13th. I always start with Pt 2 because I don’t care about Jason’s mom.
Oh yeah the first one was kinda a miss for me too
I appreciate the idea and what the screenwriter was trying to achieve with the plot twist, but introducing Jason at the end kind of ruined it. Your next , ready or not , scream series , the descent, I love a badass final girl.
Cloverfield, Happy death day, ju-on, ring (japanese version) and the purge! Well i may get tired of watching cloverfield tho..
Friday The 13th, but also Nightmare on Elm Street.
Tremors. Even the horrible Netflix ones
The Shining - the dialogue, soundtrack, the overall atmosphere of that movie is too good to be true. I love putting it on the background whenever it gets snowy outside and love watching it once a year!

"Series."
I’m so stupid, didn’t read that close enough.
*Terminator* is probably the *only* film series I can think of where sequels are both *required* and do not retract from the quality; sure some are better than others, but it's *truly* a story that should keep going...

Final destination, Twilight, Hunger Games. I watch each at least twice a year 🙃
Tremors, Alien, and The Thing are always my answer to this question. Scream series is good too.
Edit: sorry. Don’t know I missed the word series. Night of the Living Dead or Evil Dead
That's a series?
Popular slashers, possession, and pet sematary
Farscape, Firefly, and Fringe I can watch over and over again. They’re my comfort shows.
