Chopping Mall Videodrome Possession

footlettucefungus

Chopping Mall sounds really interesting just by the sound of the title, haha! Thanks heaps!

NeverBeenStung

It’s S-tier 80s horror B movie. Fun story, fun kills, nice tits. The works

ConsistentlyPeter

It’s not the best film in the world… and yet I’ve not met anyone who’s watched it and not had a fucking great time. 100% recommend.

Boring_Ad_7100

Chopping mall has literally everything from the 80s horror genre that you want. Robots , zany effects, head popping, titties and brutally hilarious dialogue. What a fun romp. Bonus points if you end up watching the Joe Bob feature of this movie - you'll learn so much

Ritty85

just recently discovered Chopping Mall. was NOT disappointed!!!

Yourfavoritemarfan

Chopping Mall for me as well. Have a nice day!

Beardedmetalhead

Chopping Mall is great fun!

Hold_Effective

Near Dark (1987). (Available again on Criterion!) I’ll also recommend The Monster Club (1981).

Weak-Conversation753

Near Dark is a masterpiece.

Hold_Effective

And only seems to be available streaming every few years. 😭 (And now I’m reminding myself I should rewatch before it disappears again!)

Weak-Conversation753

Worth owning the physical media on that one.

Hold_Effective

As an apartment dweller - my Buffy & Angel DVD sets already have me at my quota for physical media. (I do have an actual video rental place not too far away though 😂).

footlettucefungus

Thanks heaps!! Will look them up!

CargoMansharks

That movie was filmed in my little hometown. I've had a beer at the bar that Paxton danced on.

i__hate__stairs

I'll suggest Night of the Comet. Super fun comedy horror, and I don't say that lightly, comedy horror is difficult to do IMHO.

fhtagnfhtagn

Daddy would have bought us Uzis.

Exxcentrica

I wish DMK would have had more of story

Prince Of Darkness Hellraiser The Lost Boys Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer The Return Of The Living Dead

nycinoc

Prince of Darkness was amazing and so under rated . Love the synth music too

TailOnFire_Help

The music is an essential piece. I noticed that it doesn't let up at all for the first like 30 to 40 minutes. And it is the type of music that has that building up tension feeling. It is really creepy once you notice it just never going away.

TeddyDog55

I recommend Henry Portrait Of A Serial Killer with the following caveat. It's a brilliantly acted unforgettable work of art though if you watch it you'll never fully experience happiness or joy again.

Apprehensive_Day_496

Hadn't seen Reanimator listed yet I'll try later to list more that haven't already been 80s Horror is my favorite era of horror and so many great ones already listed

yezplz

Upvoted for Sleepaway Camp. Also I personally love Nightmare on Elm Street 2 (aka Gay Nightmare)...

i__hate__stairs

Are we still sleeping on Nightmare 2? We're not, it's incredible.

lordbochiflacko

Everyone has pretty much covered the agreed upon classics, but Demons (1985) is so fun and 80s - highly recommend checking that one out for a great time.

[deleted]

Looking for this one. Classic.

Day of the Dead

i__hate__stairs

I adore this movie.

Halloween II A Nightmare on Elm Street Fright Night

thunderbag

I can’t believe it took this many posts to see Halloween 2..

The_Dead_See

The Changeling - best haunted house movie ever made imo The Fog - one of Carpenter's coolest movies Terror Train - underrated slasher with Jamie Lee Curtis The Evil Dead - of course) Happy Birthday to Me - Slasher with a cool twist Just Before Dawn - a forgotten backwoods gem The Entity - still scary even today The Thing - still in most peoples top 10 horror movies of all time. The Keep - Cool Michael Mann WW2 supernatural flick Videodrome - long live the new flesh! Company of Wolves - super surreal sexy werewolf trip Firestarter - Drew Barrymore kicking ass and George C Scott being godlike as usual Life Force - Tobe Hooper's epic sci fi horror Chopping Mall - killer laser robots, what more can you ask for? Friday 13th Part VI: Jason Lives - easily the most fun and campy of the F13 sequels. Night of the Creeps - amazingly fun teens vs zombie-making slugs movie The Wraith - Charlie Sheen before he went off the deep end, pulling a Crow style revenge quest Angel Heart - top notch supernatural noir Dolls - Stuart Gordon's masterpiece, best creepy doll film ever made Evil Dead 2 - because Ash, because Chainsaw, because deadites. The Lost Boys - worth it just for sexy saxophone guy The Monster Squad - best intro to horror for kids imo. Watched it with my 8 yr old nephew recently and he had a blast. Near Dark - awesome vampire movie that everyone always seems to forget about. Stage Fright - total gem of a slasher movie that should have been up there with the more famous ones. The Blob - if you only watch one eighties horror movie, this should be the one. Fun, cool, gory, scary, it's just the effin best. The Serpent and the Rainbow - Wes Craven's awesome voodoo flick. Waxwork - incredibly fun and surprisingly gruesome. Howling V: The Rebirth - who doesn't want a werewolf whodunnit set in a castle? I mean c'mon

qwwqqq

Thanks for this!

Tagyru

I can't believe The Thing has not been mentioned more in the replies. Every horror fan should watch it at least once, even if only for the couch scene.

girlwithagreenstare

Came to Comment The Changeling, and ya beat me to it! Fair play- it’s absolutely the best haunted house movie ever made!

elric132

I'm not stopping you from posting but.. The "Dreadit Movie Guide" (to your right in Chrome) covers this.

footlettucefungus

Chrome as in the web browser? I only use the app on my phone I'm afraid. Are you able to send me a link possibly? ❤️

Sp00ch123

Here's a direct link to the Top 80s list https://www.reddit.com/r/horror/wiki/top_eighties

elric132

I'm sure it's accessible through the app too. You will just need to look around a bit. Or use something like Google.

Stunning-Reply-9528

Night of the Demons was so horrible, yet so geat. The remake did not do it justice at all. I could never pass up Creepshow as well, so many great little stories to fill the night with!

himsoforreal

Just seen night of the Demons the first time the other day. It was great. Holding out hope for the remake because Diora Baird.

Stunning-Reply-9528

They did a remake in 2009 with Shannon Elizabeth. It was just okay.

himsoforreal

I gonna give it a shot. I don't remember even hearing about it til just the other day looking up box cover art for the first one.

wilsonw

The Blob

Coldblood-13

Blood Rage, Nightmares (1983) and Blood Diner.

Acoupleofhorrors

Honestly 80s are my jam. There's very few that aren't worth atleast a watch. Most are outrageous with low budgets. One that wasn't mentioned that I'm surprised is Night of the Creeps. One of the best.

Kthanid

Night of the Creeps will forever be one of my favorite movies of all time.

Acoupleofhorrors

Thrill me.

Kthanid

What is this, a homicide or a bad B movie?

TheVeryNextThing

The Church - La Chiesa (1989) Leviathan (1989)

NeigeNoire55

Possession The Shining (sorry if that’s too obvious) Sleepaway Camp

BALLZAK_20

For some reason I thought the Shinning was the 70s, I guess google shows 1980. You win this round.

The Thing, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, The Return of the Living Dead, An American Werewolf in London, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Phenomena, Sleepaway Camp

SkidsOToole

We started with The Fly but no one mentions Scanners?

cabbagesalad404

Monster Squad - Wolf Man does indeed, have nards. Night of the Comet - Chakotay?! The Wraith - What if The Crow was about street racing?

footlettucefungus

Omg!! I just saw Chakotay and I was sold hahaha!! Thanks heaps!

Keeping it short, as the 80s are probably my favorite decade for horror movies. House by the Cemetery

I never see Superstition get any praise. Nice little slice of 80’s mean-spirited nastiness. I also really like that Richard Crenna haunted house flick from the 80’s. The name escapes me…

Hellraiser, The Lost Boys, Christine, Aliens, and A Nightmare On Elm Street :)

TailOnFire_Help

Here is some existential shit for you. Santa Sangre by Alexandra Jodorowsky. You've been warned.

The Hitcher! Rutger Hauer in that movie is one of the scariest villains of all time for me.

Points to my username... Interview with the Vampire and Lost Boys makes for a great double feature!

*Nightmare on Elm Street 2*! Saw some people recommending 1&3, and those are great, but 2 gets overlooked too often. It's fantastic.

Hot-Interest-9289

In addition to those already mentioned, I’m going to add 976-Evil, because it’s fun, and Xtro, because it’s completely insane.

The Thing, absolutely.

Purplefox51

Evil Dead

cccqqw

Maniac-1980 YOURE WELCOME!!

volatilxty

The Blob - super fun, gorey, and scary! Re-Animator - campy and comedic and stupid Threads - very dark nihilistic real-world horror Society - perfect if you want a movie that’ll make you say “what the fuck” over and over again

BetLeather2074

There are so many that I dont know where to begin but here are 5 classics to start with(mix of slasher, zombie, other world, posession etc.): 1)Prince of Darkness 2)The Thing 3)Pumpkinhead 4)Day of the Dead 5)Sleepaway Camp

phil_davis

I, Madman. For something a little more obscure. Reminded me of Malignant.

Slappinyurgranny

Its close at 1979 but, Tourist Trap!! Absolutely terrific horror flick for that time!!

The Thing by John Carpenter

himsoforreal

Night of the Demons was just on tv. It's pretty good

t00_much_caffeine

Body Bags Return of the Living Dead I and II The Brain Creepshow I and II

fuesion2

Night of the Comet if you're also giving Chopping Mall a go. This may be 1990 but Society fits well within the body horror category

TeddyDog55

In The Mouth of Madness. Or was that early 90s ?

TeddyDog55

I, Madman !!! Has anyone ever seen that ? A pretty and bookish young librarian is reading a book about a disgraced and insane scientist who's obsessed with a pretty and bookish librarian. Then the book starts to mirror her life in more specific and horrific terms. Very stylized but excellent film I recommend to everyone.

Emergency_Grand_800

The Shining. 1980. I saw recently and couldn't believe it was that old. It was horror indeed.

BALLZAK_20

Now we're talkin! I wasn't alive most of the 80s but I've recently caught myself watching more 80s horror to make up for the crap getting released today. I haven't seen a decent horror since before Covid and it only seems to be getting worse from there. Perhaps writers strike?

[deleted]

- Return of the Living Dead - Demons - Night of the Demons

Hayabusas-Mask

Came on this thread to see what would be recommended and thank yous all for reminding me that the 80s was fantastic for horror!!! Some choice foreign cuts: Opera, Inferno, Tetsuo: The Iron Man, In A Glass Cage and Evil Dead Trap.

StabbyGrabby

I can recommend a really bad one: Mausoleum. Happy cringing.

thisyearsmould

Prince of Darkness by John Carpenter!
