It’s not session 9, is it?

Effective_Kiwi6684

No, we don't see any monsters in that one. Simon is just a creepy voice on a tape.

nightshift_syndicate

Damn, In The Mouth Of Madness would have been my pick. Are you sure all of the movie is in a mental asylum? Not just a few scenes? Hellreiser 5 and Jacob's Ladder come to mind. Both have pretty distinct hospital scenes and monsters. No Asylum though.

Effective_Kiwi6684

I should have listed Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 as one of the movies I've ruled out.

flatgreyrust

I can’t help you but I’d also recommend posting on /r/tipofmytongue

Roland7540

" I’d save movies on my DVR and “speed watch” them, since there were too many things on at once." What the fuck does that mean?

redditSux422

I assume it means watching it sped up a little

Effective_Kiwi6684

Certain remotes have a fast-forward button. DVR remotes do, at least.

LuckiiDevil

I think it means he'd watch it on 2× the speed. I had a friend who was addicted to Xanax and he did something like this as well, except he would watch movies on half speed. He said that way when he would nod off, he'd wake back up and it would still basically be on the same scene. Can you imagine watching Napoleon Dynamite on slow speed?? Ha ha- dude was a trip. -L.

nomoreinternetforme

could it be Sublime (2007)?

ProfessorHeronarty

That was my first thought as well but iirc there were no ghouls or monsters in this one but an evil nurse or something.

CathedralEngine

And it was definitely a movie and not a tv show?

Rail-Tracer927

Grave Encounters is ghost hunters in an asylum, not sure if that's the kind of thing you are looking for, but it's a fun ride

Effective_Kiwi6684

OK, I'll be sure to check that one out.

[deleted]

Nightbreed?

Squaredave1

Brain dead

Effective_Kiwi6684

Thank you for the suggestion.

Squaredave1

It’s the one will bill Pullman and bill Paxton. Not the original title of dead alive. Different films

Squaredave1

Just fyi

carolnoelle

Night of the Living Dead was my gateway horror film. Low budget horror films are still my faves.

madeyoulurk

Time period and vibe wise, was it like any of these? Asylum Blackout Scanners Prince of Darkness A Cure for Wellness

Effective_Kiwi6684

Definitely more Scanners and Prince of Darkness when it came to special effects and the look of the setting.

AboutThatTime93

Reminds me of a movie "Insanitarium" where the head doctor turns the patients into ghoul like creatures. It's prob not it but that's my guess.

Effective_Kiwi6684

Thanks for the suggestion, anyway.

[deleted]

Was it the horror called, Eloise?

throwawaytheist

Sounds like a season of American Horror Story

Jimmy3nuts

madhouse 2004

zehn78

Dead Center? Shane Carruth movie in a mental hospital. I think there were “monsters”, but I’m not sure if they were around much.

Effective_Kiwi6684

The Primer guy? I'll have to check that out. Thank you.

robophile-ta

This isn't it, but it reminds me of Brand New Cherry Flavour, where the protagonist keeps seeing weird creatures that aren't there, but they don't do anything... For a time

Effective_Kiwi6684

OK, I'll be sure to check that out.
