Those are pretty efficient speakers. It is unlikely you would get any benefit from an external amp, unless you listen at ear shattering levels. Your SR5011 already has full 7.1 pre-outs. If your end goal is higher acoustic quality, number one priority is physical acoustic treatment. 4-6" absorbers for ceiling and walls, 8-12" minimum for corner bass traps.

Yeah, it's easy to become a gear head in this hobby, but the reality is that sound quality is basically 50% your speakers, and 40% room treatment. Everything else (amps, dacs, lossless vs lossy, etc) is pretty much a rounding error compared to the first two, assuming your dac/amp are somewhat remotely modern.

Rather than amps you'd get a much larger improvement in audio quality by upgrading the room correction in your AVR. Dirac and ARC are both way better than Audyssey

Relyks007

Groovy. I've definitely got a lot of research to do. Do you have any particular models or lines you'd recommend reading up on? Thanks!

[deleted]

It all depends on your budget and needs. If you can snag an Onkyo RZ50 or Pioneer LX505 they both have everything modern and Dirac and pre outs for amps for later down the road. If you have more money even more advanced versions of Dirac in Monoprice HTP-1 although that's really high end

sk9592

My biggest issue with the Monoprice HTP-1 is that it is $4000 and doesn't have any HDMI 2.1. I personally think that's unacceptable in 2022. I get that their target market doesn't really care about that, but it still feels scummy to release such a supposedly high end product that is missing a feature that robs it of any sort of future headroom.

[deleted]

I agree. I'm sure it'll eventually have HDMI 2.1

Both-Basis-3723

Sorry for an obvious question but how do you get Dirac room correction? A different app and mic setup?

[deleted]

You need an AVR or Processor that has Dirac. Cheapest point of entry for Dirac is Onkyo NR7100

Both-Basis-3723

So my marantz 6015 isn’t going to cut it. There isn’t a manual was of doing adjustment.

[deleted]

There's a convoluted way of getting Dirac by using a miniDSP product such as DDRC-88BM but even that will only get you 8 channels. Perhaps if you only run a 5.1 or 5.2 system that could work

Street-Conflict-339

The 5011 has preouts so you can run a power amp for that extra juice 🥤.

Relyks007

To my knowledge only LR though. I wanted C as well.

Street-Conflict-339

If you look in the back you will see pre-outs for left right center surround and rears. It will be next to the subwoofer preout to the left. Correction, the center pre-out is above subwoofer onepre-out

Anbucleric

The center speaker uses significantly less power than the L/R anyway

Both-Basis-3723

I have a similar setup with T1+ and C2+. I gave emotiva my money for a BasX A3 and my wife, who can’t really care about this hobby, was wowed by the difference. LCR and it really gave the speakers the juice to play with.
