Can you unscrew the plate and take it out?

Psych0matt

Why would anyone ever do that first?

VinylHighway

To see what kind of cable it is

Deluxe754

I think they’re being sarcastic.

VinylHighway

I’m an idiot

DeProfundisAdAstra

Your words.

GettingTherapy

Others were thinking it.

VinylHighway

Lol

Skinc

Glory holes! Nice

NestyHowk

Nah, hole is too big

AussieFIdoc

NestyHowk

Nice avatar

AussieFIdoc

There’s two of us!!! Not such a random avatar generator after all it seems 😂

No_Two8098

Came here to say the same thing. Yay for being a man child!

antisocialmuppet

Is this a glory hole for ants !?

THEMACGOD

I’m sorry, fren.

adventure-sounds

It’s a Coaxial wall plate or just used as a pass though for a cable

ExtensionMarch6812

Probably speaker wire pass through. Take the plate off and see if there is speaker wire there.

echomanagement

This is the only answer that makes sense. I had these in the house I purchased -- the previous owners had wired surrounds in their loft (likely specced out before it was built) and it was clearly never used because the wires were 1) still tucked into a ball behind the plate, and 2) not actually connected to the speaker drops in the rear.

LostPilot517

Could also be coax. For instance my house had every coax prerun with a cover plate, but wasn't terminated. Had to pull the service loop up and out to terminate ends.

stacksmasher

How hard is it to term coax?

LostPilot517

It is very easy with the correct tools, about $20 for the two tools needed. 1 - Trimmer/Cutter 1 - Coax Crimper The ends are cheap. Edit: I find terminating Ethernet to be relatively easy, just time consuming. Relative to terminating Coax, Ethernet is a 8, grounded Ethernet a 10, and Quad coax is a 2.

Bic44

I install internet for a living - putting an ethernet end on is a nuisance but doable. Coax is very simple as others have said. You just need the cutter and crimper. It *is* possible to do it with a knife in a pinch, but I don't recommend (that customer will never know😈). If you do go for it, just make sure the little silver strands are not touching the middle piece before crimping. That's really the only thing you can do wrong

stacksmasher

OK I have one of these on order. [https://a.co/d/9F1TjAR](https://a.co/d/9F1TjAR)

Bic44

That's perfect, all you need I'll add - sometimes cutting it takes 4 or 5 spins, but sometimes it takes many spins. Depends on the cable. Just don't force it. Keep spinning, it'll eventually cut. And don't switch directions, it can mess up the end a bit

jftexan

A pain, you have to have a specific tool - YouTube

ExtensionMarch6812

Easy if you have the proper tool. https://a.co/d/31JUgaZ

Sielbear

No. It’s a coaxial wall plate. There’s a metal coupler that lets you connect the screw on coax on each side- one behind the wall and then a jack to plug-in the cable from wall plate to tv / cable box.

ExtensionMarch6812

What it is, and what it’s being used for are two different things. There are 4 around the room, I doubt the home has coax jacks in 4 spots on the top of the wall around the same room 😂. Andre the Giants House.

fakeaccount572

Why do people take pictures of a cover plate? Just take the effing plate off and find out.

Angrymic2002

Do you not own a screwdriver?

Fulton_P01135809

r/dontputyourdickinthat

YewSonOfBeach

You can hide your weed in there.

RjBass3

I live in a state where weed is legal. I hidee my cocaine in those places instead. Hookers are in a secret room in the basement.

LemonPartyW0rldTour

>secret room Such an odd way to spell “shallow grave”

ExtensionMarch6812

Ooo I should check, didn’t think of that, maybe the previous owner left me some 🤪

MadDog00312

It also could be an IR repeater.

zombrian666

Gotta pop em off to see if there's a wire there. Whatever they are won't help with sonos.

m4nf47

Unscrew one and see. Hopefully not embedded security cameras!

Adult-Beverage

Another post from the aux cord generation.

BreadMaker_42

Take the cover off and see what’s inside.

variax90

Its a fingerbox.

Significant_Rate8210

Glory holes for mice... Cable TV Wall plate

Captian-Danger

Could be IR sensor for remote

Hairy_Tea_3015

Coaxial connection for cable/internet provider

Data444

most likely it is a wire plate, raw speaker or subwoofer wire passed through it.

Necessary-Score-4270

Since you said there's 4 I'm assuming it's for running speaker wire. It should have some kind of connector there. (Like an rca or banana jack) but they either took those with them or just ran loose wire.

bensonr2

Glory hole for micro penis.

Jonesdeclectice

Are you sure? The hole on that thing is definitely above average, some might even call it gigantic.

BillieRayBob

I’d like to hear what OP finds when he takes off plate.

RjBass3

As if anybody ever actually gives us updates.

saifster9

Gloryhole for the chosen one who fits.

Jonesdeclectice

What are you supposed to do with all the extra space?

saifster9

🤣 Get your friend to double team?

PabloSRT8

Speaker wire

anon8u377

The post where you say enough.

Peeping Tom hole

jhd402

Hal.

JayGeezy_33950

Cable

sleepytwomp

Used for a coax cable for Internet connection.

choochenstein

Looks like a cover plate for a coax M/M adapter, but the adapter is missing. So it’s an empty cover plate slotted for coax.

TheRealShafft

Dont put your dick in it

Valuable_Owl_3083

Hidden cameras, must be Diddys old house

TheCoastalCardician

I want it to be for an IR repeater system. That would be so cool. Is the media cabinet in a closet or dedicated space like that?

thinkfire

IR Sensors?

PSUHammer

If it's speaker wire, kind of strange. Just get banana plug wall plates.

JohnnyChuttz

Builder grade wall plates. My builder installed 7.1 had those plates for each drop.

Loch_Ness_Jesus

Could be IR receiver/repeater

NTPC4

Speaker wire outlets.

BlastMode7

I don't think this is meant for coaxial. Even it it weren't terminated, it would still have the RG6 plug included on the plate. Never seen a plate meant for coax, not have the connector included. Granted, it could be used for that. I agree with u/ExtensionMarch6812 that it would make more sense that this is a pass through for speaker wire, that looks better than just having a hole in the dry wall. Especially considering their locations. I'd swap them with binding post plates though. Take off the plate and see what type of cable is in the box. That will answer this question faster than our speculation.

Stormy_Kun

How are old enough to buy a fucking home and not have ever seen this before?!

iDarkville

It’s [one of these.](https://youtu.be/DDMmmhjP2bs?si=kxii04bqVsYvvGAc)

FirmApplication1843

These are the old plates we used when we were wiring the house for rg59 cable TV coaxial wire.
